The epitome of a fad diet, though many say it works.


 

Description


The grapefruit diet is really just a set of standard rules you follow for mealtimes. There are some variations in the rules, but they usually look something like this:

o Drink 8 8oz (64oz total) glasses of water each day.
o When eating a meal, stop when you are full.
o Follow the meal-plan (below) exactly, no substitutions and you have to eat everything listed. No snacking
o Do the diet for 12 days, then take a break for 2 days.

Breakfast:

grapefruit ( or 8oz of grapefruit juice)
2 eggs prepared any way you choose
2 slices of bacon

Lunch:

grapefruit ( or 8oz of grapefruit juice)
salad with the dressing of your choice
all the meat you want

Dinner:

grapefruit ( or 8oz of grapefruit juice)
salad with the dressing of your choice OR a red or green veggie prepared with butter/spices
any meat or fish
1 cup of coffee or tea

Bedtime Snack:

1 cup of skimmed milk or tomato juice


The grapefruit juice is suppose to be a catalyst that helps burn fat. Coffee hinders fat burning, so you're limited to that 1 cup per day. You can basically eat all the meat and fat you want. Exercise is generally encouraged as well.

There are some supplements on the market that leverage the grapefruit diet as part of their gimmick.


History


It is believed this diet started in the 1970s. It was so simple, it could be printed on a single sheet of paper and photocopied to share with others.


Criticism


Many health professionals and organizations have stated they diet is not healthy. Though recent studies seem to have shown it really does work.

Is this the same diet that is used for heart patients before surgery. I saw this diet some where else and it not call the grapefruit diet.

It works I just got tired of the same foods everyday but
it's inexpensive the lost of pounds it's like 52lbs in 2 or
2 1/2 moths if i recall.

it does work - and I lost all my weight with it then some doctor put his finger on my throat (when I felt healthy and was working out) sent me to the hospital where I had heart diease, diabetes and they fixed me to the tone of a 100 pound weight gain, sudden numb feet, crippled, and massive water retention. So be careful, monitor your sugar levels and at the very least, but a nice large glass of fresh squeezed sour yellow grapefruit each morning did what 20 years of failure couldn't but also got me dead!

I remember hearing on the news that grapfruit juice alters the effectiveness of some drugs. So, if you are taking prescriptions you might want to check with your doctor or do some research on the internet to make sure the grapefruit diet does not cause any adverse effects. Otherwise it sounds like it works. Does anyone know if you regain weight right back again as soon as you go off the diet?

I said I will return with results, I started on 11-2-06 at 177 and now 11/09/06 I am now 169.6 I lost about 7.4 in 8 days. I could have lost more but I did not work out the way I wanted to and I over did it with the meat serving. I had ribs, steak, fried chicken wings with a side order of slices breast. I over did it with the meat. I am going to post again if anyone have any question let me know.

I think you lost water weight first and then start losing more, but you have to workout. I am going to push it real hard this time. I want to get down to 140 after I get there I am going to stop the diet and just work out.

I tried this diet back in 99 and in about 2 weeks i lost about 14 pds i didn't stick with it because i was ready for more than just meat and juice i just missed eating out,but it does work and like every one says you must stick to it if you really want to loose the weight, I know you don't want to eat the same thing over and over and over but you will be glad to see those pounds just fall off you really have to try this diet for your self

Since my last post, I came off the diet, you do gain the weight back. I stopped the grapefruit diet and started a new eat right plan. I started working out more and eating right and my weight is coming off slowly but inches have dropped. If you do a fast weight lost diet the weight comes back faster and more. When I stopped and started eating differently and working out. The weight came off slowwly but surely the weight was guarantee off. How do I Know? Because I can eat what I what for a week and the weight does not come back. I have to work out and eat my fruits, veg, portion size meal and water. I had to change from fast food, overeating. everyone can do it just give 7 month and u have the rest of you life. If I had done this I long time ago, I would have not been looking for the easy way out. Don't cheat on meals or snacks REMEMBER " Just give a guaranteed 7 month eating right and working out, then you can enjoy the rest of your life"

As of today I weigh 169lbs. but this weight is guaranteed beacause I can eat what I want and the weight do not come back. I execerise Mon- Sat and Run and 3 days and I eat healthy food. Sunday is my only day off.

I started this diet about 7days ago and i already have noticed about 6pound loss, my clothes don't fit me as tight and I've noticed my post-pregnancy belly has became flatter. I only exercise moderately in my home about 3 days a week, but regardless of that I still have lost pounds and that makes this diet a success to me!

I just started the grapefruit diet today. I tried it a few years ago and lost almost 10# in the 1st week. I also remember my mom went on it way back when this diet was 1st popular(her MD gave it to her)in the 70's---I remember as if it were yesterday ---she lost 20# in 2 weeks (that was about all she needed to lose)and never gained it back!

People-this is really a fairly healthy diet---Unless you have a problem and are resticted from eating eggs etc. You are eating lots of vegies at lunch and dinner and fruit(the grapefruit--it has always been considered good to have your citrus fruit)and the meat-is your protein---just don't get crazy and fry everything---I like baked or broiled fish and maybe steak on the grill and baked or roasted chicken.
I never was one to have the required amount of dairy-while on or off a diet-so I just take my daily vitamin w/ extra calcium--and I have the grapefruit juice that has extra callcium in it.So I just don't have much carbs in the way of breads(there are still carbs inmy veggies)--so what I won't be on this diet forever and I can always have a little carb on my 2days off(the diet is 12 days on 2 days off)
This grapefruit diet works--- but if you start eating like a cow after you lose the weight you will surely gain it all back--I don't care if you do this diet or a slower weight loss diet,you just have to change your eating habits.

I eat all the cheese I want. In fact, I eat anything I want, just no white bread or pasta.

I drank grapefruit juice throughout the day for a month and lost 10 lbs. It really works. Now the weight is back on and I am on the diet again.

If you buy the big aluminum cans of white grapefruit juice in the juice aisle, it is less expensive!

In 2004, i dropped 96 pounds with Weight Watchers and since then I have gained 74 pounds back, so today I am starting the grapefruit diet, I am 5'6", 225 and I will update you all on 09/30/07. Wish me luck!!!!

I started the diet 6 days ago and I have already lost 6 pounds! Instead of drinking the skim milk for bedtime snack, I eat low carb 3gram yougurt. It taste way better than the skim milk and hasn't affected my weight loss.
Does anyone know what your supposed to eat when you go off the diet for 2 days? I am afraid that I will gain what I lost when I eat "normal" again. I love this diet, cuz I am never hungy!

My friend ate turkey bacon and still lost the weight/ Make sure you find one that is low in sugar. I did this diet and lost 12 lbs after my first 12 days...on the two days off I thought I would put it back on...instead I lost 5 more lbs in addition to the 12 the following week. I am starting this diet again today because I have surgery in less than a month.

I started the gramefruit diet yesterday 11/12/07. A friend of mine gave me the diet. When she did it she lost 10 lbs and she cheated because she put sugar in her coffee and she still managed to loose the 10 lbs and she wasn't even overweight.

I will do another post to share my results.

I did this diet for only 6 days and I lost 6 lbs. This diet really works. I ate chicken nuggets, hot wings, grilled chicken breast and I also had ketchup. I was supose to stay on it for the full 12 days, but I stopped it because I had too many parties to attend to and it was hard. So I started the diet again today and I'm going to see how much I can lose until Christmas.

We started the diet 12/19/2007 it really works my husband dit it a year ago and lost 20 pounds in a month,he cheated with corn chips but we read somwhere u can eat corn chips is that right? this is 12/19/2007 we have lost 3pounds in three days so this is good,,we are going to do this for two months with the breaks,,I way 183 pounds 5ft10 want to get down to 140 or 150 have not seen that in 20 yrs,,will keep posted.

I have tried this diets when I was a senior in high school and I lost tons of weight for my senior pictures. But I changed it up a bit. Instead of my eating a salad for lunch my mom made me a turkey sandwich on wheat b/c my salad would get soggy by the time I could eat it a school.

Three of us are starting the grapefruit juice diet tomorrow. Two of us have 30kgs to lose (= 66lbs)and one of us has 15kgs to lose (=33lbs)... 12 days on and 2 days off can't be that bad eh'...... and to "Kads" this is a grapefruit MEAT and vege plan so obviously NOT suitable for vegetarians. You will need to google a "vegetarian diet for weight loss"... Good Luck!

Hey everyone, I did this diet when I was in highschool, it was actually really easy to follow. I ended up loosing about 90 pounds 10 months, I did go on and off a couple times...I didn't have any cravings, and I eventually somewhat transformed this over to the low carb diet and incorporated cheese, and a few other things, although I got so into the loosing weight aspect that I ended up barely eating, and I lived of Dt. Mt. Dew...and perhaps a piece of string cheese for the day! I eventually got really sick and started coughing up blood, my doctor said that when you starve yourself, your body starts to decompose itself or something to that matter...soooooo....make sure you keep in mind that you must make sure to not get completely caught up in it...I did end up regaining it all back pretty much after I started eating, but I do blame myself for that because if I had been smart about the choices I made towards the end and not put my body into starvation mode, I wouldn't have retained everything I ate afterwards...
I actually restarted this diet today, so we will see what happens!

I started the Grapefruit Diet because I want to lose weight and fast!! Now the only problem I have is this.......there is so many websites stating what you can and cant eat and this is the confusing bit for me. They contradict each other!!

So some questions...if you all wouldnt mind answering for me?

1) Can I eat Corn, Peas, Lettuce, Red Onions, White Onions, Cucumber, Tomatoes & Carrots?

2) I dont eat Bacon!! So is it okay to use Sliced Turkey Breast instead?

Any help will be much appreciated on this? Im drastically trying to lose weight but I need to make sure I'm eating correctly!

I have done this diet and so has my mother in law. She is the one who suggested it to me. Her doctor put her on the diet before she had to go into surgury to loose some extra pounds. She did it fo 4 weeks and lost nearly 30 pounds!

I've been on the diet before, but I just started again on 2/21. I will let you know how much I loose after the 12th day. You are supposed to do the diet for 12 days, stop for 2 and then do it for 12 days again.

This diet is basically a strict version of Atkins. Meat and veggies, no carbs. You can not eat corn or white onions. You can eat tomatoes and carrots. I don't know about the peas. You can eat turkey bacon but it doesn't have as much fat as regular bacon so you probably won't loose the weight as fast. You will still loose it though.

If you were annorexic, the reason that you probably gained 25lbs is because when you're not eating, no matter what, when you finally do decide to eat, your body is going to retain, and store everything, no matter what...it's a survival mode

If you are gaining weight, you aren't doing it right. There is no way you should gain weight on this diet.

After 8 days on the diet, I lost 6 pounds. I am getting weighed again tomorrow and I will update again.

I started this diet on mar 02 2008 and the first week lost 5lbs it has motivated me to move on.I weigh in on friday so I`ll see how I did for my second week .
I am 5"5 and weigh currently 180lbs . I also have started walking my dogs for about 30-45 minutes every night ..

I started the diet 3/12/08 so far I have lost 4 pounds in 6 days. I get married in one month; tell me will I make my 15 pound loss by then. The last time i did this diet was in 1999; i lost about 35 pounds but I don't remember how quickly it came off. I did exercise a lot back then. In 12 days I lost about 10 pounds that is what motivated me to continue the diet. I'm scared I won't lose the weight fast enough this time.

I'm thinking about starting this diet but am kind of confused about what I can and can't eat and hoping some of you guys who have had some serious success could help me out. I only want to loose about 10lbs but I need to loose it fast! A lot of sites I've seen say that you can't have celery, cucumbers, lettuce, or cabbage - do you guys know why - kind of confused as to what to put in my salads. They also say though that you can have cereal (which I am huge addict of) but I don't see anywhere in the menu plan where you're eating any carbs - can we eat carbs and when? And finally - can I substitute soy milk for skim if I think I might be lactose intolerant? Thanks - any help is much appreciated!

The Grapefruit Diet
The Promise:

In 2 1/2 months you should lose 52 pounds. Seems like a fad, but who knows, take this diet with your tongue firmly in your cheek and a pinch of salt!!.

The Rules of the Grapefruit Diet :

You must drink eight 8oz. glasses of water daily (64 oz. total per day).
At any meal you may eat until you are full.
You must eat the minimum listed at each meal. (yep, this diet list the minimum you should eat).
You cannot eliminate anything from the diet. Especially the bacon at breakfast and the salads. You must eat the bacon and salads. These combinations of food burn the fat, omitting one part of the combination will cause the whole thing not to work.
The grapefruit or fruit juice is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process. Don't add or reduce the amount of grapefruit or juice.
Cut down on coffee, it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process. Try to limit to 1 cup at meal time.
Don't eat between meals. If you eat the suggested foods you will not get hungry.
You can fry food in butter and use butter generously on vegetables.
Do not eat desserts, breads, and white vegetables or sweet potatoes.
You may double or triple helpings of meat, salad or vegetables.
Eat until you are stuffed. The more you eat the more weight you will lose.
Stay on the diet 12 days, then stop the diet for 2 days and repeat.
Grapefruit Diet Plan:



Breakfast:
Either 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. juice (unsweetened)
2 eggs any style
2 slices of bacon



Lunch:
Either 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. juice (unsweetened)
Salad with any dressing
Meat any style and any amount.

Dinner:
Either 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. juice (unsweetened)
Salad with any dressing OR a red or green vegetable cooked in butter or spices.
Meat or even Fish any style cooked any way.
Coffee or Tea (1 cup)
Bedtime Snack:

Well right now I am on the master cleanse diet. This is really crazy. My sister told me about the grapefruit diet and I am planning on starting it on Thursday, (so my body can get used to eating again). So I will keep you all posted. The only negative thing for me is the lack of bread beacuse that is my down fall. I am 5'2" and weigh 157lbs.. I am hoping to get down to 125 when its all said in done. So wish me luck!!!

I went on this diet about 3 years ago and I did lose about 8 pounds. I don't remember the diet lasting 12 days though. I weigh 132 as of today and would like to lose at least 17 pounds. I am only 5 foot tall and small framed. I am interested in what the results will be this time. My friend went on the diet with me the last time and she went on (so many days) and off 2 days three times (as I said though, I don't remember it being 12 days). She lost 29 pounds. I did gain my weight back - but over a year later. Can you eat eggs in your salad too?

I started this diet on 3/22/2008 and I lost 10lbs and 13.5 inches off my entire body. I am on my 2nd day off and I feel great. So far, I did not gain any of the weight back. I actually lost another pound. My advice is that you must try to do some type of exercise on this diet. If you do, you will see the pounds melt away even faster. I know the diet says eat whatever you want but we all know that is not true. Make healthy choices and you will be greatly rewarded (DO NOT EAT FRIED FOODS - SUBSTITUTE WITH GRILLED MEATS). Many people do not understand the concept of the 2 days off. On your days off, you cannot eat whatever you want and not expect to gain the weight back. If you make healthy choices then you will not have to worry about gaining back what you lost. This is what I did on my 2 days off and I did not gain the weight back, INSTEAD I lost weight. I hope this helps.

Breakfast

Oatmeal (note this is a carb)
Lowfat Yogurt
Water (w/crystal lite mix)

Lunch

Grilled Chicken Salad
1/2 Baked Potato w/sour cream and butter (note this is a carb)
1 Cup fresh fruit salad
Water

Dinner

Grilled Salmon w/white wine sauce
Mixed Vegetables
1 Apple (optional)
Water

Note that I drank at least 8 glasses of water those days and I did some type of workout for at least 30 minutes. I also did not snack between meals. Just drink water. Unless you change your eating habits, no matter how fast you lose the weight, you will gain it back. It is so easy to eat unhealthy but if you want to remain healthy and live longer, make those lifestyle changes little by little.

I started it on Monday April 14. It's now Wed. April 16 and I've lost 3 lbs. It's working for me. Can't wait to see the results after 12 days. I do recommend lean meats and moderate exercise to see quicker results.

I started this diet Monday 4/14/08, along with 3 other co-workers. We are all different sizes and shapes and all of us have seen results. Today is 4/17/08 and i have lost 5lbs, my boss lost 8lbs and our other co-workers between 2-5lbs each. We fry our eggs in the morning, eat breaded fish, and use normal salad dressings. I sub non-fat yougurt for my evening snack beacuse i dont drink milk. Yes it is ok to have diet soda's as long as they are cafinee free, you can eat cheese, you need it for some sort of dairy in your system. We use splenda on our grapfruits, and in our cofee. Oh and none of us exersize yet. I also talked to my pharmacist and she said the only perscription drugs to worry about while doin this diet are heart meds and cholesterol meds. I will keep you guys posted!

I did this diet two years ago. It worked back then. I started because I wanted to have another baby and didn't want to do it on top of my overweight.
The good thing about this diet is the motivation. You feel great when after a week you've lost 5 or 8 lbs. I got inspired, and starting working out. I remember I was 166 lbs and got down to 135 (only 2 months on the diet). I kept the weight off for a year and the following year I decided to try for another baby, and start eating again.. Bad Choice! I gain weight and didn't get pregnant. When I finally got pregnant I was overweight.. not as bad but still overweight.
Now, I have a 5 months old baby and 160 lbs again. I started the diet again on 04/14/2008, and will let you know how it is doing for me.

On day 10. I checked this morning and I was down 6 lbs. I cheated one meal, but every other meal has been the diet. I am also allowing myself 1-2 diet cokes a day. I also cut my eggs down. I only feel like having one at breakfast. I'm starting to increase my exercise so I think if I stick with it things will work out. I'll probably continue it after my 2 days off this weekend. In a way its easy because you're eating pretty much the same foods, but that can get old. Best of luck to everyone!

the thing about this diet, as with any diet, is that the second you stop following the plan chances are that you are going to gain it all back, and perhaps then some...i've done this diet in the past, and i lost 100 and i gained it back...but when i had stopped doing the plan, i started eating a lot of carbs, pastas, bread, etc. so therefore, after not having had them for so long, they stuck like glue i have nothing to blame but myself for gaining the weight back...and with that being said, i think that we really need to look at this program as a jump start to change our entire way of eating, just eating healthier in general, sticking to salads, etc, instead of eating all the junk, and carbs...this is my out look on it now, that it's not just a temporary change, but a life long change to better my health, and it seems to make a big difference in my whole outlook on following the plan...yeah i know i sound corney, lol...

not so sure about the apple cider vinegar, i mean i'm sure it wouldn't hurt to try it, it's not forbidden on the diet.
as for the coffee, i have never drank it and it doesn't seem to affect anything, i think it's just for people that do like coffee. i personally love iced tea (any kind), so i will drink it throughout the day and add a packet of sweet and low, i do try to stay away from soda though, and if i do drink it i will drink diet caffiene free.

i'd be very careful about eating chili even if it has no beans, you might be best to stick to homemade and watch what your putting in, because if you read the labels on the canned chili w/o beans they are still extrememly high in carbs, and that is what your mainly trying to avoid.
as for the lettuce i've never heard that before, in the plans it states to eat a salad for lunch, and you can also have the option between that or red or green veggis, so i don't know how they could have figured you can't have lettuce, perhaps they were misinformed. there is a lot of backward info out there, one site will say you can't have something and have somethings, but the next will have the same items but listed under the opposite catagories...

So, I am thinking about starting this diet. I am in my early 40's and just can't seem to find anything that works. I was very thin (5'6", 120 lbs) until I started having babies. I gained about 80 lbs with each pregnancy and am 250lbs as of today. I feel miserable. The past week I have been taking Trimspa, followed by a chaser of high fiber drink mix, following a low carb diet, and have been walking 1 - 2 miles per day. It feels as if I have gained weight, possibly from the fiber drink mix... I really hope that this diet does work, as I am beginning to feel depressed with the increase in weight over the years. It seems I did try this diet about 20 years ago and had some major stomach upset.

Hello,I have tried a diet something like this one but you had to drink a mixture of apple cider,apple juice,and white grape juice 1/4 of it to be exact but the eating plan was the same except for the 1/2 grapefruit for lunch and I lost a lot of weight from it I can honestly say that yes it do work and i've kept it off for 2 years until I gotten pregnant and gained it back. Starting this exact diet next month.

Are you sure that the diet is called the grapfruit diet. Ive heard of a doctor recommending this diet to heart patients needing to lose weight fast for heart surgery.It's the same diet plan just with a few changes.

Hi...I am going to go on this diet tomorrow. I just ordered the Hoodia P57 yesterday for over $100, and now I'm feeling silly for doing so. If I an lose the weight by eating a meal plan like this...sounds too good to be true! So, gonna give it a whirl. Was wondering if I'm allowed to have diet coke with it, or if it wil impede the weight loss. Even if it's just one can with dinner or something, in place of the coffee. I am 5'5 and weigh 153 lbs. Will keep progress online if it seems to work.

i drink diet coke all the time...and i never drink the coffee/tea with my dinner, but i do drink unsweetened ice tea throughout the day and ocassionally will add a sweet and low...i don't worry too much about drinking too much diet soda, i do get in the 64 oz. of water, but if i completely cut off everything, i will fail, lol...i know this for a fact, so drinking my diet sodas is my way of treating myself...

I started this diet on May 26th (just 3 days ago)and I was 155lbs and I am now 149! The 1st day, I didn't lose anything and then I skipped the scale yesterday, but today...wow, I am so impressed. Some people lose weight very easily and can lose pounds overnight, but I have never been that way, so this is a big feat for me.

I've been eating the eggs and bacon for breakfast, salads and bbq chicken breast or chicken cacciatore for lunch, steamed veggies with butter and chicken or steak for dinner. I drink the juice before each meal, water and diet coke throughout the day, as well as the skim milk before bed (although I don't like the taste)! So obviously...this meal plan leaves no room for hunger, except if you eat dinner too early in the day! Even still, I won't eat in between meals, just fill up with water or diet coke. The diet says eat until you are full, and if you do so, (which I've been doing lol) you really don't get hungry between meals.

I will keep you guys posted on progress. I like that I keep track on-line, and I think it will help a little. I purchased the Hoodia P57 but I will return it as soon as it arrives. That is intended to curb your appetite...but why do that if you can eat and still lose weight?! 6 pounds in just 3 days! I swear...this is easier and better than Atkins!

Oh...another thing, I just purchased a digital scale too. My weight was varying on my scale and my sisters scale. This is much easier to read the results...which leads to "whoo hoo"...which leads to more motivation! My old regular scale said I weighed 153, but my digital said 155...why am I telling you guys all this? I have no idea. Just think the digital is more accurate and a single pound dropped can give people like me all the more motivation.

My boss at work actually did this diet and he lost 41 lbs in 3 months time!!
I am starting it on Monday. June 2..I have about 20 lbs, or better, to lose that I gained when I quit smoking on November 22...

hello everybody...i just wanted to know if it was ok to eat the same thing for lunch and dinner. On other GF sites , I see that for lunch you eat salad and eat any meat as is and for dinner it's any meat and veggies [it doesnt say salad]. My sister and I started yesterday, I can't say anything on it yet, to soon to say but I do feel great. I will keep you guys updated. Hey everyone, it's been a while, been out and about. Annabell you had asked how much weight I had lost and how long it took me, I lost about 100 pounds in a little under a year. I did not stick to the diet plan by the book, but I changed my life style to basically avoid all carbs, and eventually elimanated the juice, I couldn't take it anymore. With that being said you said that you gained all your weight back over night...well if you had breading on your chicken and also had chicken nuggets, which i'm guess had breading also, then that is more carbs than your body is used to, and since you are reducing the amount of carbs you would normally eat in your every day life, while on this diet, your body is going to retain ANY you eat, especially right away, after your body gets used to things and the change in the way your eating it won't be so quick to retain all the carbs.

As to the grapefruit question, there are yellow, pink, and red grapefruits you can buy, and no, you do not have to eat the entire grapefruit per meal, just cut it in half and eat half and store the other half for the next meal. Also your question about cereal, I'm sure you can do that but you are not going to loose weight as fast because you are consuming carbs in both the cereal and milk, and this is supposed to be an EXTREMELY low carb diet, and the grapefruit works as an energy booster to get your metabolism going...I guess my advice to you would be to look at the labels, and try to find milk and cereal with the lowest amount of carbs possible.

As to the question about eating the same thing. Yes you can do that, there is no problem there, I've done that before I'll prepare extra at lunch (ex: a nice big chef salad) and put half away for dinner, makes it way easier. just consider the green vegetables to be your lettuce, lol...

I'm also trying this diet again...well somewhat this diet, but I'm not really big on the grapefruit thing, instead I take a grapefruit pill half an hour before each meal, you can find them at health stores, and I'm not exactly following the menu plan either. For breakfast I'll have say 2 scrambled eggs, with bacon bits(if you don't have time for fresh cooked bacon) and mix in some low carb veggies, and a little bit of cheese and make a low carb scramble. When I get a sweet tooth I buy sugar free jello, and put a little bit of cool whip on it, because the jello has 0 carbs and the cool whip has only 2 carbs/serving. another thing i'll do when i'm having extreme sweet tooth is take a little teaspoon of peanut butter with a tad of whipped cream and eat it just like that. The other day I made a mock meatloaf, with eggs, montreal steak seasoning, and low carb veggis, but no breading or anything like that and baked that like a regular meatloaf, and that was really good also, or perhaps a ham, cheese, onion (usually try to use scallions cause they have less carbs than regular large white onions) and broc quiche but do more like a scramble, don't put in the milk, or use crust. There are all kinds of different things you can do, you just have to use your imagination...

I just wanted to know after you did the grapefruit diet, what kind of foods did you eat? Its my third day, and happily to say, i feel real good about it, im not hungry at all. but when my 12 days are up, i dont want to eat the wrong foods and gain all the weight back. So if you can list some of the foods you eat, i'd really appreciate it and congrats on the weight loss, my goal is to loose a 100 lbs too. So, how long do you think I should stay on this diet? Btw, is it ok if we skip meals? Im usually busy when it comes to lunch time and when I look @ the time to eat, its already dinner time, is this going to ruin the diet? oh and one more thing, can the salad have any vegatable in it or just greens?

You only go off for 2 days, just stick to good meat or fish, vegetables and fruit and you should be ok. Also you should never skip a meal as that leads to getting too hungry and overeating on the next meal. Stick to the diet, otherwise it will fail. I just eat greens and tomatos for my salad, sometimes adding bean sprouts, artichoke hearts (canned in water) and sometimes black olives just about 5. Just make sure you eat 3 meals a day and don't skip. K?

im not really on this exact diet ...i eat once aday (tuna,Qatmeal,chicken noddle soup,),drink nothing but water and grapefruit juice and excersise for 20 minutes a day ...ive been on it for 2 1/2 days and have lost 3.5 pounds. I hate when people go out and get something really good to eat and eat it slowly so you want to ruin your whole diet! With this diet it seems alot more sensible then mine but i have to loss 55lbs in 2 months .....should i continue my diet or start this one???? I'm confused XP

During June 2007 to December 20007, I was a die-hard dieter and exercised for several weddings (yes, bridemaid hell) to lose weight. One of my friend's mother ordered our dresses 2 sizes too small because she didn't want any fat people in her daughter's wedding. Anyway, needless to say I lost the weight boot camp style and very slowly. I went from 285 to 215 to fit in my size 18 dress though I asked for a size 22 dress figuring I would diet into THAT dress. At the time, I wore a size 26! In June, I got on the scale when my jeans got tight. Ahh, I was 232 pounds! I started the grapefruit diet my friend gave me that she used to lose weight for our sorority sister's wedding this past December figuring I COULD not stand to be so miserable again...and hungry. I started June 15th at 232 pound and this morning I weigh 225.4 pounds! YIPPEE! I do exercise for 20-40 minutes and eat what's on the menu given without hunger or b***hy tendencies. That's it! I pray to God this keeps on working! I'm 5'4 (size 18 again @ 225.4) and wish to lose 85 pounds total to get to a never seen 140 pounds. Hopefully, I will be able to wear a never seen before size 6 or 8. My short term goal is to weigh 210 on the 4th of July. Wish me luck!

Good luck sclegacy! I have tried what seems every possible supplement out there and that gets $$. Now, 2 children later, I would like to lose about 20ish pounds, but will be satisfied with about 15ish. My husband and I are looking to start trying for another baby in late Aug or early Sept, and if I could lose 15 lbs before putting my body through THAT roller coaster again, that'd be ideal! I wouldn't say I'm overweight so much as just very flabby. My "pooch" on my tummy, I refer to as my empty baby sac, because that's exactly what it looks like. We are leaving for TX in 3 weeks for a family reunion type thing on my husband's side. I LOVE his family, but all the women are size 4 or smaller, and me being a 10ish, I always feel like the fatty. I know it's vain, but it would really help my self esteem to lose this nagging weight, and I just don't want to buy into another expensive supplement, only to be let down and my pockets to be empty. With this, although it may be considered a "fad" diet, it's much cheaper and realistic to maintain, so I'm all for it. I will go stock my refridgerator tomorrow with what I need and start first thing wed morning. Wish me luck! I will post again when I have completed my 12 day cycle.

I just started this diet monday 6/23 as of right now I'm 177...My goal is to lose 30 pounds...I will keep you guys posted on my weight lose.

Hi everyone! My daughter and I started this diet 2 days ago. She lost 3 lbs, I lost 1 lb the first day. I only have about 8 lbs to lose, she has about 25-30. If anyone has good ideas as far as different meals for lunch and dinner, could you please post them for the rest of us? Or maybe just post what you ate for the day, that would give the rest of us differnt ideas so we arent sticking to the same boring thing all the time! LOL Good luck to all of you!

Congrats on your loss, for Lunch i usually have a nice, big salad with a variety of meat and veggies, and for dinner i usually have veggies and meat (I choose different veggies and meats every night) my meal plan is still plain but i eat a variety of veggies and meats that it gives it a twist for me, hope that helps! Starting the diet 2maro....5/29/08..i hope it works ...i have to loss 50 puonds in a month in a half ...its scary to think i have really no time to loss so much weight !!! I'll update in about 3 weeks .....

Jeff~ You probably shouldn't as it's just extra/empty cals. I have only been doing this for a week, and lost 2 lbs, which for me is quite a feat! Good luck to you~
