Summary
Taco Bell's Drive-Thru Diet is a response to consumer's wanting more health menu choices from their fast-food vendors.
Description
Perhaps Taco Bell's Drive-Thru Diet is more marketing campaign than serious diet plan. But, just the same, since so many people eat at Taco Bell, having these healthier options on their menu may make a serious dent in the obesity epidemic.
The Drive-Thru Diet consists of 7 new menu items at Taco Bell. They all start with the word "Fresco" (which means "cool" in Spanish). All have 340 calories or less and 8 grams or less fat. Here's the list:
Fresco Crunchy Taco Fresco Soft Taco - Beef Fresco Burrito Supreme - Chicken Fresco Burrito Supreme - Steak Fresco Ranchero Chicken Soft Taco Fresco Grilled Steak Soft Taco Fresco Bean Burrito
Taco Bell's marketing drive has a woman named Christine picture and sometimes an image is shown of her when she was heavier. It's similar to Subway's Jared. Christine cut her calorie intake by 500 calories a day and within 2 years she lost 54 pounds.
Taco Bell's reasoning is sound. Many people enjoy eating fast food. Maybe it fits their on-the-go lifestyle. Maybe, they just like it and that's that. But, you can still eat fast food and be a healthy weight. It's all about what you choose. The Drive-Thru Diet makes that choice easier. Just pick one of the 7 Fresco items and you'll be fine.
Taco Bell has a Drive-Thru Diet website where you can make a pledge to eat healthier ("Frescolution") and get more info about the new Fresco food items. Also, Christine and her story is highlighted there.
