Hello 12 day dieters! Today is my last day of my second go of 12 days. Tomorrow morning I start my 2 days off. I weighed myself this morning(and I shouldn't have) and so far I weigh 231.8 pounds! Actually I should have waited until Saturday morning to weigh myself but I just couldn't resist. That brings my total to 20 pounds!I feel great and I'm beginning to fit into most of the clothing that I haven't been able to wear in months. I hate that I didn't measure myself but I know I lost inches in my thighs, arms, calfs, and stomach. I'm gonna enjoy my 2 days off (of course sensibly)I got a taste for Papa John's Pizza. Other than that, I'm good. Good luck to those who are staying true and focused on the 12 day weight loss journey. We can do it! |

I eat only salads for lunch and dinner and I have cheese and ranch dressing on them. Is that fine? Also, are mushrooms fine for vegetables? I also use only 4 oz of Grapefruit juice, is that fine?
THANKS. |

Hi, I am planning on starting this diet today!! I need to lose about 50 lbs. Any tips would be helpful. For the tea after breakfast and dinner....can it be hot Lipton tea? Or do I need a specific kind? Also, is it best to have the grapefruit before you eat or after you eat? Thanks for any tips!! |

I am interested in this diet. Is it 1/2 of grapefruit with each meal or an entire grapefruit? I have seen both when googling the grapefruit diet. Also I like chai tea with skim milk. Can I take the bedtime skim milk and have it in the am with the tea? On the 2 days off what are you allowed to eat? 5'11 and 315 pounds. I want to loose 150 pounds. it took 24 years and 5 kids to put this weight on so I realize it may take awhile! Has anyone lost large amounts of weight on this diet and how long will it take? |

Hi everyone, I am 5'1 and I weigh 155 lbs. I am totally depressed about the way I look! I am starting the diet on tomorrow. I want to lose 30 lbs by the summertime. My problem is sunkist sodas. I will starve myself if I can have a sunkist. But, I will try my best to give them up for the next 12 day. Wish me luck and include me in your prayers. I need willpower and committment! Thanks! |

Hello fellow 12 day dieters! I am on my 3rd round of the 12 days I haven't weighed myself in a week because i found myself getting on the scale every day which is not good. I decided to weigh myself at the end of the 12 days which is February 19. I noticed something about myself, when I was on my 2 dsys off and i got to eat whatever i wanted i found that when I ate more carbs I was hungry and I thought about food all of the time. I couldn't even go to sleep at bedtime so I ate a salad and I finally went to sleep. I also noticed that I eat less vegetables, and I drink less water. Also, i have trouble falling asleep when I began to add more carbs. I know now what i have to do...make this a way of life for me. I've been researching on the internet about the "low carb way of life" and I found a lot of info online. I believe my body needs only a small amount of carbs to run efficiently. Since I been on the grapefruit diet I feel better, I'm finally sleepy at bedtime, I drink lots of water, I eat vegetables every day and I only eat when I'm hungry. The only thing I need to improve on is my exercising. I work so much that when I come home late at night it's hard for me to get on that treadmill. I have to find a way to get more exercise in. Also I'm responding to Godsproperty question, I know u said u like sunkist soda, they offer a diet version try that. Also, how is your water intake? I find that when I drink diet soda, I don't drink enough water. I replace water witht the diet drink. So, mostly I drink water all day and I may drink diet tea with my dinner. I may drink a diet soda maybe once or twice a month. I know its hard but we have to think of our health and our life. I don't want to die because of the way I eat. My addiction was to cookies. I gave them up cold turkey. The longer I eat the right way the more my body and pallete is getting used to eating this way. I find that I'm no longer craving cookies. When I go to the market I try to avoid going down the junk food aisles which was hard for me at first. I am trying to change the way my mind thinks because losing weight has a lot to do with "our minds". Okay, I'm gonna end this post. Like I said before we need each other for support. Any questions or comments please feel free to ask. Good luck everyone, I'm praying for all of us. |

I've been doing this for the past 6 days and have lost 6lbs. Well to be fair, I'm on the Atkins diet, but I incorporated the grapefruit. I only eat the grapefruit twice a day, and 1/2 a grapefruit with each meal. Is it the Atkins making me lose weight or the grapefruit? Most likely the Atkins but that wont stop me from eating the grapefruit as it may help some too! |

Maybe I'll cut back to 6oz and see how that goes? I know we can't have Ruby Redy GF juice but can we eat Ruby Red GF? I appreaciate any feedback. |

We are seeing results in our house, but it is difficult to stick to. I like to cook and still have 2 children at home so sometimes that helps and other times it hinders. I started on 3/1 and as of today I have lost 6 lbs. Woot! My husband has only lost 3, but he has 2 cups of coffee at breakfast with a total 14 tsp of sugar plus cream, and that is his choice to go slower. I don't like coffee so it isn't a problem for me. I miss bread and pasta I have added an ounce of cheese and handful of nuts for a snack (I teach school and get very hungry)and if I am home and hungry between meals, I have a glass of grapefruit juice. I add many ingredients to our salads for variety. At night I am certain to drink a glass of skim milk. we both can't wait until our cheat days next weekend!

For breakfast I have bought steamer bags that you can make an omelette in and I will just add some cheese, green onions and peppers. For lunch I will have a greek salad and steak and for supper I will have a chicken breast and vegetables. I will find it hard for the first few days not snacking that is my biggest problem and also not having any fruit. I will keep you posted on how my progress is going and hopefully you can do the same. Good Luck.

Hi Telma, this is the diet that I'm following but I have increased my grapefruit juice to 8 ounces. I'm sure that what ever grapefruit you bought will work just fine, and don't be ashamed of yourself when you go out I'm sure that you look great. I think that we are sometimes to hard on ourselves and we think that we look worse than we actullay do. Here is the diet that I'm following
12 days on – 2 days off
Breakfast 1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened) 2 Eggs (any style) 2 Slices Bacon Lunch 1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened) Meat (any style, any amount) Salad (any kind of dressing) Dinner 1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened) Meat (any style, any amount) (fish may be substituted for meat) Vegetables (any green, yellow, or red vegetables cooked in butter or any seasoning) Bed Time Snack 1 glass tomato juice or 1 glass Skim milk
Vegetables Allowed Red onions, green onions, bell peppers, radishes, cucumbers, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, peas.
Vegetables to Avoid White onions, potatoes, celery.
Find other high protein meal ideas here.
Instructions
At any meal you may eat until you are full – until you can’t eat any more. Don’t eliminate anything from the diet, especially don’t skip bacon at breakfast or omit salads. It is the combination of foods that burn fat. The grapefruit is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process. Cut down on caffeine – it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process. Try to limit to 1 cup per meal at mealtime. Don’t eat between meals. If you eat the combination of food suggested you will not be hungry. Note that the diet completely eliminates sugar and starches, which are lipids and form fat. Fat doesn’t form fat; it helps burn it. You can fry food in butter and use butter generously on vegetables. Do not eat desserts, bread, and white vegetables or sweet potatoes. You may double or triple helpings of meat, salad, or vegetables. Eat until you are stuffed. The more you eat of the proper combination of food, the more you lose.

Starting this today. Read this all day yesterday. Went food shopping last night. 5'7, 179. Would love to lose 20 pounds. Not much of a 'support group" kind of girl. Hated weight watchers, only showed to one meeting. So, go easy on me. |

Hi Bun Buns, this is a great site to just talk to people and I started this diet on Monday and weighed myself this morning and I have lost 4 lbs so far. I thought that I would never be able to go without snacking but I have had no problem so far. Good luck today.

KlassB, congrats and thank you. I love grapefruit, greens, and meat so I should have no problem with this. The only snack I may have before bed is a Fiber One Bar. Fiber is good for you. |

Nope, have not tried this before. I have done weight watchers before which works, and counting calories, 1000 a day which works too. I am having a bit of trouble lately because my husband and I just got married in January and we have been renovating our first house by ourselves for the past 10 months now. I work full time as a babysitter and go to school at night. When we both get home at night during the week and on weekends we work on our house, so we didn't have appliances or a sink for a while so we were boiling pasta on our woodburing stove. We finally got our fridge and stove in with our bathroom done, so now we are able to cook and store healthy food in the house. I still cannot make it to gym for a while longer until our renovation calms down. EEEEK! I am not used to grocery shopping, so I wanted something that was easy and straight forward because it takes me a really long time to cook meals and do dishes due to us not having a kitchen and easy things I can pack for lunch at night. This seems pretty good so far. I love all the food on the list, so I should be good. I will only weigh myself once a week though because your weight fluctuates and it is phycologically unhealthy to weight yourself everyday. |

Well this is my second time on Grapefruit diet (1st time was in 2008- along with excerise I lost about 10 lbs) 3/16- Starting Weight- 156.6 lbs. I see people complaining about how this diet is tough, try the Master Cleanse aka the Lemonade Diet and compare. I did the MC diet for 5 days (although it is recommended to do teh cleanse for 10 days, I had an event coming up and I knew had to be able to stomach the food and alchol) I lost 8 lbs, and no solid food it allowed only the lemonade mixure and sea salt flushes. I told myself that if I could go 5 days without eating, I could do this diet with no problem. I just appreciate the fact that I can eat while dieting. I don't even use the orginal Grapefruit daily menu plan I first discovered the more healthier version on the Lucille Roberts website a few years ago:

Hey guys. I lost 5.5 pounds so far, in less than a week. It's not hard. I love all items on the menu, it's easy to stick to (like when you are eating out or going to mama's house for dinner) and I am never hungry. I wish I would have found this out a few years ago. |

Hello everyone. I tried this diet back in 1999 and I lost a lot of weight. I went from a size 14 to fitting into some 8's. I am now in a 16 after getting married and raising children. Last night I was reading about everyone elses success with the Grapefruit Diet and figured I should try it again. Believe me I've been up and down over the years but now I'm the heaviest I've ever been. I didn't weigh this morning but last night I was 217.. I'm 5'5" and I'm 31 years old. I want to get off at least 55 pounds and hopefully by my birthday in July. I started the diet back this morning and believe with everyone's support on here I will do just fine. |

hey Klass B...um... I try to use different salad dressings often, I like ranch, but now when I go to the grocery store, I pick up a a dressing that I never had to give it a try, and also try putting different meats in your salad, maybe one day add cut up chicken breast with a new dressing or add bacon with green peppers(that's what I did today) or even if you like buy the bag of steak fajitas strips and add that in your salad for a mexican taste! How long have you been on the diet and have you lost any weight? Let me know! Take care... |

Hi Terri, I started the diet last week and should have been done my 12th day today but I came down with bronchitis and have been on antibiotics so I stopped the diet on Monday when I became sick. So far I have lost 7 lbs so I will be back at it on Monday. Thank you so much for the tips for the salads, when I was doing the diet I was not hungry at all and I thought for sure that I would never make it not snacking at night but it was not problem. I still have 37 lbs to go but I guess this is a start. |
