Description

Primarily the Jenny Craig weightloss program is done by visting a Jenny Craig center near you. There, you sign up for their program (there are several option, with varying levels of service provided at varying levels of cost). There is also an "at-home" program avaiable.

Members are provided with personalize menus, activity plans, motivation, one-on-one consultations, various weight loss tools, and access to Jenny Craig support system (either online and over the phone).

The program tends to follow standard low-calorie and exercise recommendations that are common among health professionals.

History

Jenny Craig was born Louisiana but married an Australian man. It was in Australia in the mid-1980s that she first started her weight loss program. Her program has become a great success offering counseling to members and food products.

Criticism

You end up paying for things you could do on your own. Cutting calories and exercising more is not rocket science, afterall.

Jenny Craig is great if you want to Jenny Craig the rest of your life. If you don't mind doweling out big bucks and getting very little in return.
My personal experience with Jenny Craig plan is that it is a big corp. out to make a big profit (nothing wrong with that) but at the expense of people who are at their last straw and disparate to lose weight.
Beware!! they tell you very little about the program when you call the "800"# and give you the hard sell. the only way to find out really what kind program you’re getting into you have to pay up front. The counseling entails 5 to 10 mins a week (better make sure your sitting by your phone or you'll be postponed until next week) did you eat the JC food?, you need to do better, did you exercise this week?, you need to do better, now order some food. there is no long term teaching how to eat in the real world. if you don't order the food 3meals and two snacks then your considered off the diet and they won't "help" you any more. once you lose the weight and on the "maintenance" program and you gain back the weight because they didn't really teach you anything. the answer is order the more food again!
If you sign on for the year long program to get discounts on the food, you will receive no refund even if they failed to do their job. Basically they take your money and if you don't think their service is good enough then you’re out of luck. You have only a 3 day grace period to change your mind and they only do that because the state law requires it. If you’re thinking about doing the JC program I say run as fast as you can away from it. There are other better and more supportive places to go to lose the weight. where you won't spend $550.00 per month.

Just signed up, finished first week and wish I had never heard of Jenny Craig. Too much pressure to buy everything! I don't need their salad dressing or vitamins. They told me I would not lose weight if I did not buy their vitamins. They forgot I lost 3 lbs. without the vitamins. Prefer my own! They also faxed my Dr. for approval because of my medication and they had the nerve to tell me my Dr. said to take them, which he told me diet is ok, no need for special vitamins - Centrum Silver is fine! Why do they think they can bully and lie to make people believe them. These are the stories Kirstie Alley should be checking out - but she gets her paycheck so all is great!!!!!!

Joined 2 weeks ago and Love It!!!!! Is is expensive? Yes! However, it does work and the food is great-----if I was able to do it on my own I would, but at this point I need portion control and calories control and that is what they provide. I was not pushed into buying vitamins or salad dressings....maybe you just went to a pushy center.....Selden, NY is awesome!

I joinded about one month ago. I'm a vegetarian, so my food choices are limited - all pasta dishes! I'm getting pretty bored with the food and I don't really feel like they care about me. I feel as though they ask questions that they are supposed to ask, but don't really dwell on who their client is as an individual. The cost is obscene - over $2 for a one serving of cereal that I can get out of a box that costs 10 if not more times less! I did lose weight, 10 pounds, but I can't see myself trying to go on with this. It's not realistic.

I feel bad for those of you who had these horrible experiences with Jenny Craig. As an employee of the number two region in the country, I can assure you that Jenny Craig is not like this everywhere. Most of our employees have been clients that have lost weight either through Jenny or on their own (I lost mine on my own). This makes us take extra care to each and every individual client. If I have a client that has been struggling and their individual needs have not been addressed, I set aside extra time on their next visit to address those issues. Our consultations are 15-20 minutes, and if needed longer. I think the thing that helps me is my history with weight loss, my education background in nutrition and personal training, and my family history of dealing with weight. This is a passion for me and I take this very seriously.
As for being expensive, I can attest to those high prices, but in my center we offer budgeting and if you can't afford the food we help you plan meals on your own. Our goal is to get you to be able to live a healthy lifestyle on your own anyway, and not be on Jenny Craig forever. The program we offer is designed that way. Once you get halfway you are planning meals on your own (if not before), eventually taking you off of Jenny food all together. Our goal is a healthy lifestyle, not a fad expensive diet.
I hope wherever those centers are that did not have this approach get reviewed. I plan to take these reviews to higher ups in my region. Trust me, we care where I am. Good luck to you all and God bless.
