Juice Plus

Summary

Juice Plus is a dietary supplement that contains fruit and vegetable extracts combined with several vitamin additives (i.e. folate, vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene, as well as low amounts of iron, and calcium).

Description

Juice Plus+ is not strictly a product designed to help you lose weight, but it could easily be used as a supplement for people who are dieting to make sure you get enough nutrients. For the most part, Juice Plus is marketed as a product to improve your health. Often, customers of Juice Plus have some sort of health problem they are hoping to improve or eliminate.

The formula for Juice Plus is based on the well-regarded theory that our bodies need many servings of fruits and vegetables everyday. However, many of us find it hard to get all the servings we should. Juice Plus makes this easy by concentrating all these servings of fruits and vegetables down into a pill.

People with cancer or people looking for avoid getting cancer often will turn to Juice Plus because it contains lots of antioxidants. This is a substance found extensively in fruits and vegetables which many studies have linked to disease (like cancer) fighting.

Some specific healthy substances found in fruits and vegetables that you can also get from taking a Juice Plus pill are: beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, vitamin C and vitamin E. These are all disease-fighting antioxidants.

History

Juice Plus+ is distributed by National Safety Associates (NSA) via multi-level marketing (MLM). NSA also marketed water and air filters. Sales are generally by independent who receive various levels of commissions based on their volume and the sales made by any distributors they recruit.

Criticism

Juice Plus has been widely criticized by various nutrition experts and research institutions including the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, University of Pennsylvania's Abrahamson Cancer Center, University of California Berkeley Wellnes Letter, and Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter. These sources noted that any beneifts the product may have are due to the fact that it contains added vitamins and that it does not deliver comparable benefits to real fruits and vegetables. The research on Juice Plus has been characterized as poorly designed, unreliable, and inconclusive, and several sources have criticized the product's advertising for being deceptive and misleading.

People with cancer turn to Juice Plus? That's insane? Nobody with cancer should be turniing to Juice Plus. Claims like these don't sit well with the FDA.
