Thank you Connie and K10. Appreciate the information. As they say today is the first day of the rest of my life...but, I'll take baby steps and say today is the first hour of the rest of my day. First step, no more coffee, I love my coffee in the morning, but can't bring myself to drink it without half and half....I've read a lot of great information on this site along with others. Has everyone that chats here had great success on this? This morning, green tea with fresh lemon...You all seem like you know each other pretty well, that's great, and very supportive. I'm in Illinois, where are ya all from? Thanks again! I truly feel motivated!

OMG...I could never give up my coffee and half and half! Why are you giving it up? I have two of those every morning and call it breakfast.

I've been cleaning out part of the garage for the last two days. And it is hot out. But it is the best feeling. Today I am making green chili enchilada's. I hope it turns out. I will let you all know and post the recipe if it's a keeper.

Welcome Gabbe, Yes, the no flour no sugar diet WORKS! When we DO it and stick to it, it works!smile
I'm in Northern Indiana.

Camping was good but our site was muddy. We had some rain and even ran to the bath house because of tornado warnings. It didn't last long though. We had a really good time. We forced the 17 year old to go with us. He was not pleased but he survived. smile

NFNS here I come!!!

Nice maintainance Hilda. I'm glad you and your house are OK.

Morning all! It's going to be 95 here today. I have a few things to do outside, I'll do them quickly, and then ironing all day...well, all week really. I swapped out the winter/summer clothes and after washing there is a lot of ironing to do. I'll be watching a lot of movies this week while I do that.

Green Chile Chicken Enchilada's

10 oz cooked, diced chicken breast (I used 2 chicken thighs I had in the freezer, cooked and cut them very small)
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 cup light sour cream
1/4 cup salsa
1 can diced green chilies (I used chopped)
4 Tblsp chopped cilantro (I omitted because I didn't have any)
4 Tbslp chopped scallions (I used 8 green onions)
1 cup reduced fat cheddar (I used mexi blend)
12 corn tortillas ( I had to use more to use up all the sauce, this makes a lot)
1 28 oz can green enchilada saucw (I used salsa verde)

Preheat oven to 375. Combine the first 8 ingredients along with 1/2 cup of the cheese. Coat a 13x9 baking dish with cooking spray. Add 1/2 cup of the slasa verde to the bottom of the dish. I may have used bit more to cover the bottom. Warm the tortillas in the microwave for 30 seconds. (I did 4 at a time). Spoon some filling onto each tortilla and roll up. Place in baking dish seam side down. I ended up with two layers of enchilada's, so I layered salsa verde and cheese between the layers.Bake 25-35 minutes until bubbly. 25 minutes worked for me. We will be eating this for a couple of days!

Oh...the joy of being off my feet! Had a marathon ironing day...about 4 more of those and I'll be all caught up. Laundry room looks wonderful, dinning room table is buried.

Had leftover enchilada's for lunch and dinner. My husband and MIL had some for dinner and I still have some left! That was a big pan of enchilada's. I only used 2 chicken thighs, although they were quite large, and I don't think it was lacking in meat. I chopped the chicken up very small so everything blended real well. I would say it is a very economical dish. I can't call a hot dog a sandwich, doesn't it seem like a hot dog had more mass than a slice of sandwich meat? Are you trying to calculate calories or something? Drink some water Debbie, it can really help with hunger.

We haven't had any rain. This weekend I think they may be calling for some. We have really needed this dry spell. My house is completely quiet...no tv or people awake besides me. It's nice!

I did iron my daughters dress that she wore for the concert the other day. It looked particularly nice.

On with my diet today. I feel much better than yesterday. I think I can do good today. I just need a plan, which I am going to make right now.

Debbie: I do notice less bloat. I did have cheese and gluten this weekend. Not in front of my daughter though. We are going camping and I don't how we will eat. This is with my side of the family and they know how to eat. I know I will make better choices than I normally do.

Took our old man kitty to the vet. My parents paid for it. My dad is really attached to this old guy. His foot really had started to swell. They did and x-ray and said his toenail is injured. He was given an antibiotic injection and I have to spray his foot twice a day. He is wearing a cone and is peeved to say the least. I think he had injured it and then it was getting better and then he re-injured it.

I have a nephew-in-law who got upset that his sister-in-law (A) posted on Facebook that her sister (J) needed prayer. J was in a car accident yesterday and is 6 months pregnant. My daughter was so sweet and posted and asked for prayer for her cousin J. Complicated I know when since I don't want names listed. Anyway, nephew-in-law commented on my daughter's Facebook that he appreciated the prayers but it was a private family matter. This guy can be a jerk, as you can see. I commented after him that I was touched that my daughter would think to ask for prayer for her cousin J even though she barely knows her and that the prayers obviously worked. For a teenager to think of someone other than themselves is a big deal. I do believe he has issues with A and her husband already and he was just mad at them. I am just irritated with him. Sorry, I just had to vent.

I heard from my sis-in-law regarding her daughter J. This is what she said; She is now 25 weeks pregnant and her pregnancy has been full of troubles ... kidney stones, strep throat, pneumonia, terrible morning sickness, fainting spells, irregular heartbeat, preterm contractions ...

She has been on a heart monitor for the past week and a half to help the cardiologist determine what is causing the fainting spells and irregular heartbeat. She was put on a medication that seemed to be having some positive effects but then she started having strong contractions that started her cervix thinning and dilating so she was on bed rest. She was given a shot to stop the contractions which helped. Her doctor allowed her to come to our house for the weekend if she stayed off her feet - which she tried to do.

While driving home yesterday - actually to an ob visit to see if there were any changes to her cervix - she had a fainting spell and ran into the car ahead of her on the highway going about 70 mph (which is actually the speed limit there). That car had been slowing down for some reason. She now is unable to drive until signed off by a doctor. I doubt that will happen.

I am wondering if her hubby was feeling guilty and was acting out. My SIL will be helping her for a little while.

Please keep the whole situation in your prayers. Thanks.

Debbie: We had a smidge of rain at my house tonight.

I was gone for the weekend camping with my extended family. It was fun, but we ate poorly. Kids stayed with a family friend and they had fun. Jake's foot is doing worse since being to the vet. OMG Bronwyn! Is there any chance the test was wrong? Are you getting a second opinion? So many advances have been made, what are your doctors suggesting for therapy? All our prayers are with you...please keep in touch. I know you have a hard road ahead of you, but it can have a good outcome. Your smart and your strong and you have a great support system in your family. And in us too.

Hi anne. You can eat anything that doesn't have flour or sugar listed in the ingredient list. Of course, you can't go nuts with high fat high calorie foods, but beyond that lot's of healthy foods await you. Lean meats, veggies and fruits are allowed. Ezekiel products, breads and muffins, Tinkiyada pasta's...you will become good at reading labels and finding new recipes.

Oh geez Greg! Can't find a job with a civil engineer degree? That is so scary. Engineering degrees have always been recession proof. My daughter is majoring in electrical engineering and physics. She still has 1 1/2 years to go, but I just assumed she would be marketable. That is so depressing. I hope she finds a job soon. Good luck to her.

It's too hot to do anything outside...I guess I'll stay in and do housework.

Hang in there Bronwyn, I am going to be thinking about you all day.

At the vet yesterday, the doctor said it is common for cancer to present as an infection. She wanted us to spend $451 to find out what type of infection it is and how his kidneys function and if he has diabetes. We think he may have one or both of those. We have decided that we will put him to sleep tomorrow evening. We don't have the money to spend to find out what type of infection it is and if it is cancer. We won't do anything heroic if it is cancer, diabetes or kidney failure. This is a hard enough decision, but then the vet was all, "you don't even want to see if it is something we can treat?" Earlier in the visit she said that it has a good chance of being cancer. I love Jake and laying around with a hood on his head and in pain everytime he tries to walk, isn't quality of life. We will tell the girls tonight. Thanks for your support.

I weighed this morning...154.4. I have been taking my diet much more serious. NFNS is the rule of thumb, but I have ate F and S when it was difficult not to. The last several days I have stuck to the plan and of course I feel better and I am hoping I can get back down to 145ish. That's when all my clothes fit!

How are you K10? Today will be very sad, I wish we could all give you a big hug. Are you still eating gluten free? Are you still losing?

And Bronwyn, please tell us what is happening. From your earlier post, I gather you have had this news for 3 or 4 weeks. What have you been doing? Going to appts? Seeing other doctors? Of course we miss you when you aren't on here, but now we are so worried and concerned. Please just check in.

Sorry things have been a bit of a blur and whirl wind here the past 3 or 4 weeks. When I write a detailed note about the events it just disappears so I have given up with trying to give the details. I went for a colonoscopy but with no expectation of there being a problem. I have been anemic for a while but I didn't realize there was a connection......I thought I wasn't eating enough meat. The one thing I was eating and always have is lots of fibre.

So when they found a mass in my colon I was totally shocked.....and I was sure it wasn't cancerous....but I was wrong. I know that isn't stage 4 but beyond that I don't know for sure. The Doc who did the imaging told me I had been sent to her because she is really, really good......I said I was totally good with having the best. She said she could tell me it wasn't stage 4, she didn't think it would be stage 3 but she really wasn't sure and then stopped there. I honestly didn't even think we were into the numbers yet.....so I don't know. I don't look fore ward to the surgery.......it will be a rough recovery but, I am not at all worried about my recovery. Things have worked in such a fashion that I know I will be fine. It is too long of a story to tell at the moment.

I continue to log on MFP but I think about all of you and I would encourage any of you 50 and up to have a colonoscopy.......truly an easy procedure and no big deal at all.

Debbie have your tests......even if you don't realize it you are habour some concerns and fears that can be alleviated by doing the tests.

Morning. 153.8 this morning. I know we will all be thinking about Bronwyn today. Her commitment to good health will make all the difference in her recovery.

I will be trying on clothes today for my trip. And taking MIL's dog to the groomers. This week flew by. By the time I get home from my trip we will almost be in July. I love it when the summer goes by quickly. I'm ready for September and cooler weather. Great day ladies.

Hi anne. Tell us a little about yourself...age, state where you reside, etc. You can use plain yogurt (NS) and add fresh or thawed frozen peaches. For sweetening, you can use an artificial sweetener or stevia. It does take some time to learn what you can eat, but once you do that, you can create all kinds of sruff.

I made my black raspberry freezer jam. I ended up with 1 1/2 cups black raspberry juice so I had to add 1/2 cup regular raspberry juice. I bought the red raspberries and cooked them down. My daughter said it tastes good. Next year I hope to have enough of the black to make it. It was a fun project.

How are you doing Hilda?

The crustless quiche came out good, and then I made a chicken dish last night (first time) and it came out well also.

I don't know if your checking in yet Bronwyn...I hope your recovery is the best recovery of all time! I think by now they have you up and moving around, I wish for you as little pain as possible and a huge amount of peace of mind.

Today dogs to the vet for their yearly's and hopefully, finding clothes to wear out of town. I keep trying to get to that, but something always get's in the way. Great day all.

Great big healing wishes to you Bronwyn. Check in when you are up to it. Hi everybody...I'm staying busy and staying NFNS too. You would not believe all the things I've said "no" to. There is joy in staying strong.

have a few question on nfns diet is white rice allowed and is any pasta or bread out there has nfns . Also any common recipe that are easy to make not much of a cook. And is margerine ok. I am new to this nfns diet but maybe it can be a way to eat most of the time. THANKS FOR HELPING US BEGINNERS.

You can find NFNS bread and pasta products. I have to go to whole foods to get them, but some on here can find them in their local grocery stores. Tinkyada brown rice pasta and Ezezkiekl bread products.

Anne: If you live near Trader Joe's they have brown rice pasta. It is a very good substitute just make sure you are standing there as it cooks. It can get really sticky. Butter is better to eat than margarine. Margarine is nothing but chemicals. Trader Joe's also has Ezekiel bread, so does Stater Bros. Brown rice is always a better choice over white rice. Trader Joe's also has brown rice in the frozen section, you put the packet in the microwave for 3 minutes and you have brown rice. If you live near a Henry's/Sprouts, Whole Foods, or Fresh and Easy you can find some of these foods. Sometimes the Ezekiel bread is kept in the refrigerated or frozen section. At Traders it is in the bread aisle.

Good luck on your new adventure.

Quiet around here, eh smile I know Debbie is on holidays. I have been given so little real information around what to eat. I was told to eat a soft diet for the time being.....puddings, jello, custards, ice cream, cream soups...YUCK! I was told to not eat any fresh fruit, fresh vegetables or salads, nuts, seeds. It is so strange. This is totally not the way I like to eat. How bizarre that you would eat like that heal, eh???? I know the idea is not to put any pressure on the resection of the colon but, I long for something real. Anyways I am doing really well and I would hate to do anything to compromise my recovery (like eat healthy food smile

I started to count calories again yesterday.....thought I should at least watch that part of my nutrition.

You guys all okay????
