I did return and order another pair of the same ones. It was the smallest size in the Plus category. Grrrr. I want to be in regular sizes. Losing weight is the only way to be smaller. heh, really? lol

It is so hard to focus on yourself enough to change your life and eat different and lose weight. To a certain extent you have to separate yourself from people around you and do what is right for you first. That's not easy for mom's to do. Just try and take steps in the right direction Debbie. Today I read about the 100dayrealfood blog. There was no mention of weight loss, but it really showed how much work is involved in eating anything other than SAD. So don't be too hard on yourself Debbie. You have a lot going on right now. New job, schools starting...just make changes gradually and keep with them. You gained your weight overtime, that's how you will lose it.
I'm off to bed. Slept very badly last night...hoping for better luck tonight.

Morning. 152.6 this morning. Keeping my diet super simple and not overeating is doing it for me. Of course I'm going out of town on Sat, just when I'm finally losing so I may be back where I started when I get back. And that's ok. Working today, don't feel like it. Later girls.

Last year I had an ultrasound on my liver which showed it was fatty. Today I was doing a search on how to reverse a fatty liver and came across an amazing artical. I wish I could post a link but that does not work here. The summery of it is a low carb diet. Not a low calorie diet but low carb. Limit fructose and carbs. It supports the philosophy of this nf/ns site.
Their findings were these:
...subjects who lost 5% of body weight over 9 months improved insulin resistance and steatosis [liver inflammation], and those subjects who lost 9% also achieved improved hepatic histologic changes [liver cell changes visible on microscopic exam].
In short, inflammation started to recede when 5% of the starting weight had been lost and when subjects lost 9% or more of their starting weight and maintained that loss over a period of nine months, the damage that had been done to their livers started to improve.
This is good news, because it turns out that 10% to 20% of starting weight is about as much weight as most people can lose without obsessional dieting, so it's good to know that losing only 20 lbs when you weigh 200 lbs though it isn't enough to make you comfortable wearing a bikini, is enough to reverse any liver damage you might have sustained.
Bronwyn, I thought of you while readig this. Because you have been encouraging me to lose even just 20 pounds. See, you were right!
|Anonymous||posted 26-Aug-2011 1:42pm|
Hint 1: ask a farmer how they fatten animals rapidly
Hint 2: find out how pate de foi gras is produced
Stuffing people with far too many carbs even if they are Healthy Whole Grains has exactly the same effect. It's one of an increasing number of conditions that can be reversed through a sensible (low) carb diet.
|Debbie M.||posted 26-Aug-2011 1:48pm|
I also read:
"The two easiest ways to give a rat fatty liver is by feeding it either polyunsaturated vegetable oil or fructose. Both together is even worse. Saturated fats don't cause Non-Alchololic Fatty liver disease or NASH in rats.
Considering the fatty liver epidemic in the U.S. has coincided with a large increase in vegetable oil and sugar intake, I'd say that's probably the culprit. NAFLD can be treated with fish oil as well, again suggesting that a poor omega-6:omega-3 balance is central."

I am back. San Francisco was nice. These are the places we visited: The Winchester House (on the way up), China Town, The Walt Disney Family Museum, The SF Museum of Modern Art, Pier 39, Alcatraz, and a chorale concert of 'Elijah' that my step-sister was in (the singing and orchestra were wonderful). We came home on Sunday. The weather was cool and there was only one day where we saw part of the Golden Gate Bridge. We saw it out of the window of the Walt Disney Museum and we weren't allowed to take pictures in there.
I gained 1.1 pounds. Considering how many days we ate dinner very late and what we ate, I am not surprised at all.
I am not focusing on a number anymore. I look differently every time I get to a number I have been at before that I have decided to just focus on getting healthy.
I am trying to decide how to handle a child that has to be gluten-free and dairy-free and whether the rest of the family should eat that way as well. It gets very expensive. I noticed some resentment in Oldest while doing this. I think I am going to start buying milk for Oldest again and Youngest won't have it. Hubby wants to really decrease his carbs which can get annoying. I will just plan meals how I want to and he can deal with it. When we did Atkins years ago we both had issues with short-term memory loss.
I am glad the mood has gotten more positive and I am glad that we are able to share our feelings.
Take care all.

I was 112 at age 30 and I know I will never see a size 5 jeans again, but I do not care. I am now at 165 at age 62 and feeling ok with how I look. A size 12 dress can be flattering. I do not feel obese. I still want to lose more to be healthier, but I would rather do it slowly and not be hungry. 1200 calories is doable. Maybe not every single day, but most days.

Good Morning All -- Living in the Northeast, we are getting through the effects of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene. Lots of folks are on Day 5 with no power, and for those with wells, they have no water either. Everyone pitching in as much as we can. This time of year can be tough, because we never know what direction the storms are going to take until they almost hit the mainland. Our families are fine. The property behind our backyard had a dead tree on it. Yes, it fell and smashed our neighbor's fence and clipped his shed. Other than that, we were all very lucky.
You all have such great insight and ideas for managing eating plans, whether it's NFNS, or a derivative of that. I think that in the end, all you can do is your best. If you can look in the mirror and be happy with the face looking back at you, you're WAY ahead of a lot of the general population.
What I'm learning in this journey is mindfulness, which is what Connie was talking about back on August 25. And I'm learning that I can't take any of my newfound habits for granted, cuz that's when I get into trouble. Again, mindfulness of what I'm choosing to eat and why I'm eating it. SO not easy, but the only thing that works for me.
Hope everyone is looking forward to the holiday weekend -- be well and be safe!!
|Debbie M.||posted 2-Sep-2011 10:46am|
Wishing you and your community speedy recovery from the storm Lynn.
You are right about mindful eating. I am more conscious of what I am eating and the effects on my body than ever before in my life. I think that is why my weight gain has stopped over the last couple years. I may not have had steady weight loss over that period but I have stopped gaining. I can only imagine if I had remained on the same course as I had, I'm sure I would be well or and maybe near 250 by now. Even thought my weight of 193 is not where I ultimately want to be, it is a far cry from my top weight of 205 to 210.
So I feel successful in knowing now what it takes to maintain rather than keep gaining. That my friends is a non-scale-victory!!
Now on with the reducing...........

There was a lady in the airport waiting for her plane so she decided to buy some cookies and sit and read the paper while she waits. When a man in a business suit sat across from her. She had the paper up by her face when she heard some paper noise. The nerve of the man opening her cookies and eating them. She reach for one and he was eating them too. There was one left and he broke it in half and they ate it. He then left. Her plane arrived and she got on ,she was looking in her purse and guess what there was her cookies. Ha. A little humor. Morning ladies. I made it home. A whirlwind trip, but a lovely time. My diet was as good as I could make it in that situation. Really, I did the best I could. Still, I'm not weighing for a couple of days. There is something about traveling that makes me bloated and I need a little time for the swelling to go down!!!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
AJ, that airport story!!!!!! I will be pondering that all day.
K10, I think you should have some staples on hand for your oldest. And I hope the elliptical machine last too. One of my sisters has one and loves it. She fell when she was 8 months pregnant and her pelvis detached. She will have a lifelong battle with that. But the elliptical doesn't bother her. Sounds like your trip was busy.
Debbie, good attitude about your weight. I think none of us will ever look at food the same way again.
Hilda, a size 12 is beautiful!
So much to do today...I just want to stay in bed! Great day all.

Connie, The lady on the plane thought the man was bold by eating her cookies, then later she discovered she had been eating his cookies. Morning all. Sorry about your temps K10, we are enjoying some lovely weather. I am starting to feel caught up around here, trying to eat right. A few slip ups. I really have to get militant about my kitchen with the rest of the family or everything just goes back to F&S foods. It is surprising to me that it always ends up that way. I have been preparing NFNS foods for a couple of years, and still the fam misses the old fare. I really need to menu plan...that's the first step. Great day all.

I saw Valerie Bertinelli on a mag cover yesterday and very briefly entertained the idea of Jenny Craig. My husband is all for it. I just don't think its very healthy. I can and need to do this as a life style change. My loss is holding but losing more has been a challenge.
This is my working weekend. Always a little down to be away from the family so much but I know we need the pay checks. I have to focus on that.
Getting my hair done today. My family is all telling me to go blonder! I don't know what to do. And tomorrow is my 23 wedding anniversary. We sat in a resturant 10 years ago, celebrating our 13th the day before the towers came down.
God Bless America!!!

Hi all. I was able to stay home most of the day. The last 2 days at MIL's have been exhausting. I have rearranged her room a bit and started on the one last room for me to get into. She must have 500 skeins of yarn, at least, and tons and tons of new clothes with tags still on them and every gadget ever sold...she has 5 of them. I'm carrying a few things over to my neighbors house this weekend for a yard sale, (nothing from MIL's house, darn it!)so I have worked on that a bit. My friend and her 3 year old daughter are arriving tonight so I'm excited about that. I have bought a few things on craigslist for her. I have had really good experiences buying things on there, ebay too. I managed to get to the store and buy some NFNS items. All in all, a good day!

This is actually a school that they were involved with 6 years ago. I receive all the emails that my kiddos send and receive. I like that. I know what is going on then. The oddest thing about home schooling is when summer starts and finishes, there really isn't that much of a difference.

Unfortunately I injured myself a couple days ago. My hip or a muscle or tendon or something got hurt when I moved just right, or just wrong. It feels like its going to take a long time to heal. So walking is out for me for a while.
Good nutrition does so much for your body. And having a healthy body does so much for your mind and disposition. We need to make ourselves a priority! As moms we tend to put ourselves last. STOP IT! Take care of your self so you can take care of the ones you love and be good examples for our children.

Very busy today. Getting things ready for my parents 50th wedding anniversary party. Its just going to be the 15 of us. A quick mock wedding with a lovely speech about their lives, a horse and carriage ride through the University of Notre Dame campus and a nice dinner at a restaurant with a two tear wedding cake and champagne. I made the place setting cards last night and today I will get pictures of them from their wedding day blown up to put on a sign to hang in the banquette room. Lots to do, go go go!

Thanks Debbie. I hope your injury heals quickly.
The anniversary party sounds lovely, especially the carriage ride. Have fun.

Hi everyone. I have been busy with the out of town company and Gma has had some doctor appts this week. I have been very bad...well, kind of bad. I'm like you Debbie, I don't want to weigh right now. I just want the world to go away and let me be the captain of all the food that I come into contact with! My allergies are extremely irritated and that makes me feel off. If I could get a couple of good nights sleep, I'd feel much better. Believe it or not, I did not get on here to complain. Just wanted to catch up with all of you. Next week should be much calmer. Great weekend ladies.

We had my mom and dad's little wedding near the lake in a beautiful grassy area. Right after, the horse and white carraige came and picked them up. After the ride we all went to the resturant and had a mini wedding reception. It was fabulous! It was sunny and 62 degrees. A welcome changed after having had rain all week long.

Debbie I want a million dollars as well Debbie the party sounds so lovely, I bet your parents were thrilled.
I am down 30 lbs. but that is only half way to where I want to go. I honestly have only been maintaining for the whole summer. I haven't really lost any weight since mid June. I keep telling myself that it is time to get back to business here but, then I put it off for another week. The one thing I do love though is that this long, slow weight loss is proving to be quite stable. I also find that with taking so long to lose that I have also really changed some habits and attitudes.
You know what is absolutely delicious......almond hazelnut butter. It is crazy expensive but so delicious. I will eat a tsp. of it occasionally for just a taste treat....no kidding it is almost as good as chocolate. If you buy some it has to be stirred up well and kept in the fridge.

Thanks for the tip of Almond hazelnut butter. I have not tried it but I'd like to. I love that you have kept your weight off Bronwyn. I have not lost in a long time too but would like to get going again. Especially while the weather is still nice. I know the snow is coming!
My dad said in regaurds to the party. "When your children honor you in such a way, there are no words to express. Sometimes you just have to feel the happy." I thought that was cute. heh~ Feel the happy!
