Description

You can eat brown rice, lean meats, low-fat dairy products, fruits and vegetables. But, you have to stop eating foods like bagels, pasta, bread, cereal, white rice, cookies, sweets, and cakes.
Many excellent recipes are included in the book with have no flour and sugar, yet taste delicious.
The approach is to keep things simple by just eliminating flour and sugar, the two primary food ingredients that are causing the obesity problem in America. Our culture has become addicted to sweets. This book helps you break the addiction and get on track for eating healthier while losing that extra weight.

Criticism
Giving up bread and sweets may simply be too hard for some people. Sugar is in a great majority of products sold today. While the diet sounds simple, implementing it and sticking to it is quiet a challenge.

Hello ladies,
Well, I just got up and weighed. I weigh more than I did when I was drinking Pepsi. This has happened before. I eat to compensate, but not anymore. I weigh 194. There, I said it. My goal is 130, even though this says overweight on the BMI. I have always weighed more than I look. When I was in high school and weighed 105-115, people thought I was in the 90's. I am stocky. This will be the last time I know for a long while. Whenever I do weigh, I will post.
You know how you were talking about what food shapes you were? Well, I am a butterball. I am only 5 feet tall, so I pretty much have the wide as I am tall thing going on.
Connie- I am so glad you found your cat. My pets are very important to me. I should have known what WM was, duh.
Feel free to take our warm weather. I want cold already. It was really nice in December, it was actually cold for here. It will come back, but it won't stay for long.
Have a great day everyone. | Bronwyn

Listen fellow NFNS friends.....I think the tide is starting to change. Today I am 207.....so no big deal (no huge loss) but at one point in the holidays I was 212 (that is when I quit weighing and shortly after went NFNS) I just feel like things are going to start to happen for me. I am cutting out dairy this week.....I don't really drink milk so that won't be a big deal but I will miss yoghurt, cheese and cottage cheese. Okay I have another idea I will just cut out cheese for this week.....not yoghurt and cottage cheese.
Where are all my buddies.....come on guys get back on line here and talk to Connie, K10 and me!!! | Hilda

I went to Bob Evans Restaurant for lunch with a 55+ group and had the spinach turkey omelette. It was yummy. I would have never thought of cooking spinach leaves in an omelette with tomato, turkey and cheese. They will substitute fresh fruit for the potatoes. I will try making this at home. I did not vote for Obama but will be interested in watching everything on tv this week. | Debbie M.

Hello, I am here!~
Welcome K10!
Thanks friends for thinking about me. I am find. Up to my eyeballs in teens and unders. Friends coming and going and spending the night. I feel as though my house is not my own. I guess I'd rather have them all here then not know where they are. They have taken over my computer and won't let me on. We have two of them here in the family room and they sit across from each other. You'd think I could squeeze in for a second.
194 today.
I'm doing well. Not frustrated, just waiting for spring to be more active. I played dance dance revolution with my 10 year old last night until I was sweaty. Thats good for me. I should do it everyday.
I have been looking for my NSNF book. I think its lost.
I lost my cat for two and a half days last summer. He was in my neighbors basement. He jumped down into their basement as they were addin on to their house. Poor thing couldn't get back up.
How is your kitty Connie?
Bromwyn, I'm glad you dumped the chocolate. I have a personal success with chocolate. My Mom in law sent home made fudge which is the best in the whole world. She makes and sends it every year. I did not have one single piece. I asked him to hide it so I wouldn't eat it in a weak moment. Thank goodness its gone now.
Debster, Come on back now. You are not behind. Just jump in where you are!~ We miss you. | Bronwyn

Hi Everybody....I don't know where I have been lately....very cold, very achy, and probably a little depressed. This cold weather is REALLY bothering me this year. My legs are worse than ever. I did go to Weight Watchers on Monday night. I weighed in at 304.2, done 2.6 pounds from last week. I am glad but I feel that the weight is coming off too slowly to help my ever swollen, and swelling legs. I was glad to check back in and read the blogs. Welcome to the new members. Thanks everyone for asking about me. I'll check later....Debbie....I'm still in the race for 150...ha,ha. Connie, how's your cat doing and how is that hubby? Hello Bronwyn...I started to check out while you were away, I think...hope you had a nice time. | Hilda

Ahhhh, my friends...so glad everyone is checking in. Mr Binks is a sick little kitty. They can't address the hyperthyroidism until we get some of the other things under control. First we have to figure out what is wrong. So, today they drew blood and looking for the problem.
I've been gone all day, gotta go catch up with my messy house. Later ladies. | Debbie M.

Debster, You are soooooooo close to 299!!Just as I am to 189. It's so close yet so far. Congrats to you for your loss. It one little step at a time. They all add up to big numbers in the end. The time is going to pass anyway so just make your time count and do the work. I can so relate to your depression. Its a hard time of year. Please get out your sitting tapes and do it two times this week. Not even everyday. Just shoot for two times. Please post the moment you do it the first time. I will be waiting to see. OK?

Debster I think the toughest thing is patience. Really you had a great loss.....but the reality is that it is going to take a long time to get to where you want to be......so that is where patience and perseverance are so essential. On the plus side(not plus size as you go along and lose in 1 to 2 lb. increments you will continuously feel better. You will be taking lb. after lb. of pressure off your knees. I always want the magic bullet.....lose it fast and lose it now.....be where I want to be tomorrow. I have so much reality in place at this point to realize that any weight loss I do will be long and hard and will have to be a permanent life style change. I hope that doesn't sound depressing because really it isn't.....it is just the way it is. I have lost and gained weight too many times to not know that I can never eat unconsciously without consequences. My weight loss is going to be slow and my changes have to be permanent. Debster if you were to only lose 1 lb. per week by this time next year you would be 250......can you even imagine how grateful your knees will be to you. With triplet Mum's experience you can then be 150 in no time at all......she took 3 years to lose her weight. Three years sounds like such a horribly long time.....but Debster look how quickly the last 3 years have passed and think of how different the rest of your life will be with these baby steps of weight loss. I say Debster but I also mean Bronwyn......think, think, how different you feel each time you lose just a little weight. Following some guidelines from WW will keep you focused on portions and the things you need to do to have continued success. Please be happy about your loss and feel invigorated to just keep on going..... | Hilda

Let us not put more upon ourselves than necessary. I know in the past a diet or program wasn't enough. I had to add more restrictions. More exercise. More stress on myself to the point of failure. This time I am just doing nfns. Keeping the dairy. I will start exercising maybe 5 minutes every day or so after my weigh in. This diet succeeds on it's own! Don't pressure yourselves to to more restrictions.
Debster: 2.6 pounds. We are so proud of you. That is 10 sticks of butter. You shed the equivalent of 10 sticks of butter. oh my! Keep it up and you will feel different very soon.
This diet isn't a punishment, it is a healthy lifestyle. NFNS, NFNS only.
C'mon. we can all do this!!! Real nice snack: fresh pineapple with ns cool whip. What a treat!! | Connie

Everyone sounds so great today! We are an awesome bunch of girls. We know what to do and we are doing it. Let the results come. Debster, 2.6 lbs in one week is amazing. Think about what results like that are going add up to over time. This plan was made for you! Be nice to yourself and prop those feet up as much as you can. Up high. If your body could talk it would be saying "thanks." I'm very happy for you.
Kathleen, your positive postings mean so much. Can't wait for the weigh in. The suspense is killing me!
Good to hear from you Debbie. Tomorrow will be life back to normal around here. Kids gone, husband gone. Even if only for the day...I am ready. I hope you can enjoy some quiet time too. Although you did sound happy about all the kids crashing your house. Good for you being the "cool mom."
Bronwyn, way to go on the long term NFNS thinking. That's what it's all about.
I went to lunch with my neighbor today. I discussed NFNS with her again. I didn't mince words with her and told her food was killing her. She agreed. I hope she will try this. I love her and she's such a mess.
Hilda, I almost bought some dried pineapples today. I didn't because I was worried I would go nuts over them. I did get a couple of Asian pears. How often do you eat fruit? Is it always fresh only? I also bought some dried blueberries for my cereal. Yum! | K10

My hubby and I like to eat frozen mango that has no sugar. We eat it straight out of the freezer, it is sweet and makes for a nice treat. I have also done it with frozen peaches and frozen pineapple. It takes so much longer to eat since it is frozen. | Hilda

I ended up with $1 a pound D'anjou pears at WalMart(we call it Wally World). I eat 1/2 small banana every morning. I share one with my mom. They are high in potassium and help lower blood pressure. I try to eat at least one more fruit per day, mostly fresh. Clementines are on sale now, so I've had one every day. Bought a big box of them last week. Sometimes I eat canned apricots or pineapple. I love Gala apples too. | Hilda

My eyes popped open when I saw that about 10 sticks of butter. Wow! I love Fuji and Gala apples too. I have really been enjoying celery and carrots. Its that typical "diet" food we all get sick of but I havent really had a lot of them lately. Some times I fall back to that mindless eating where I just want to crunch. So... I cut them all up and added red and orange peppers and cauliflower to a gallon zip lock. Now they are there for the munching. Duiltless munching. An orange a day is great too. Much better than juice because it has fiber and takes a long time to eat. Just peal one, pull into segments and let it sit on the table. It will be there for snacking. Beware of Juice from concentrate. Not from concentrate is better and has a lower glycemic effect. Good night all and sweet sweet dreams | Debster

Hi Everyone, I am checking back in tonight. I thank you all for your support. 10 sticks of butter....you are right. I have some serious stuff going on in my life right now. My husband has chronic lymphoma leukemia. He was diagnosed about 1 1/2 years ago and we have been checking back in with the hematologist oncologist every 3 months to watch it. They do extensive blood work every three months and each time we have an appointment (which is next Monday), they give him the results of his blood work and we just pray that nothing has changed. You can live a long time with this disease but his is a little different because it involves T cells, not B cells. I don't know exactly what all of that means but I know that it is more serious. Well, anyway, he went to his regular doctor today for his regular checkup....blood pressure, etc. and she said that she had gotten the blood work report early from the other doctor's office and that his white cells were up significantly from last time. I wish she hadn't told him this because he is very quiet right now...he always feel as if he is just waiting for "the other shoe to drop" and now he is anticipating the worse and I guess I am too. I don't know what I would do without this man. He will be 70 years old in May...I am 56. I did not have a great first marriage and this man is my soul mate. Please keep us in your prayers. | Debster

Debster my heart goes out to you and your "soul mate". Cancer is such a frightening thing. My husband had two very serious non-hodgkins lymphomas. He just passed his 6 years in remission. He underwent double high dose chemo together with a stem cell transplant. I know that feeling in the back of your mind of the other shoe dropping. He went to bed very early tonight with a really bad head ache (any little thing makes you worry that there is a return of the cancer). We had also had a bit of a disagreement today. I read your post and I just felt like running up stairs and giving him a big hug. I don't know that he would appreciate being woke up at this point. Debster I agree with Debbie M.....eat well and do the things you can to be as healthy as possibly. Good eating helps to stabilize your emotions as well. Take care of yourself so you are there to support him. | Kathleen

Debster, part of being frightened is the emotional roller coaster ride that goes along with it. This a safe place for you to vent those feelings. Never feel like you have to hold back. There are thoughts you will have that you can't express to your husband, niece or maybe other family members. You can voice them here. It will help you get on top of the issues and you will be stronger for it. You all are in our prayers and we are sending you loving comforting wishes.
148.2 this morning. I haven't weighed in a few days, too busy. My neighbor just walked in her house with fast food bags. Heavens!
I'm stuck to the tv today. We are having snow! An extremely rare treat for us.
Love to all of you. | Bronwyn

Well guess what 206.5.......slowly but surely there is some movement down the scale. The scale moving really helps with the motivation to keep working at it. I think a mini-goal would be to work to 205 by the end of the month. I so wish the SOB's weren't going for Chinese food tonight before the movie.....shoot I have no idea what I could get there that would work. Chinese food is so sweet and greasy.....Vietmanese or Japanese would be so much better. Actually the Greek restaurant would have worked better as well....I could have had Greek salad and a chicken soulavki.
Well this is a big day in the U.S. I will be watching some of it here in Canada as well. | Connie

Bronwyn, what about egg drop soup? Maybe you could take some of your own NFNS chips and dip them in it or crush them it. I bought some for Holly when she had her wisdom teeth out. It looked harmless. I had to look back to see what your last posted weight was. Slow but sure. I haven't lost in awhile. But I still feel like over time I will. And then I'm always struck with the thought of where I would be right now without NFNS. I was gaining rapidly. If you stick to your plan to cut back on dairy, you will get where you want to be eevn faster.

I am so glad I can eat corn tortillas. I think that will be a real lifesaver. I made the carrots with olive oil in the oven last night. YUM! My 14 year old daughter has some weight to lose and she is going to try NFNS. She had her first temptation yesterday at the orthodontist. They have cookies for you when you are done with your exam, she wanted one, but I talked her out of it. She is even eating the Ezekiel bread and tried the Uncle Sam cereal this morning, she didn't like the cereal. I am going to have to teach this kid how to make eggs. She gets up before I do. My hubby and I start our Lose it for Life (LIFL) Bible study tonight. I may also refer to it as the fat folks study. I was told that quite a few people signed up. I will post how it goes. He may be one of the only men, I am happy he is participating. Church seems to be the one place where you see a lot of really heavy people and we never talk about the sin of gluttony. Food is always associated with church events, at least at mine. What is so frustrating, is how everything is associated with food. Good things ie. birthdays, holidays, socializing etc. and bad things, funerals, break-up's what have you. That is what makes it so hard to lose weight. Too bad we need it to survive and too bad it can taste so good. It has been 2 weeks since I have a Pepsi. Yeah me! I have given it up for 3 months before, so I know I can do it. Good day everyone.

Connie this may not be the best way to handle the situation but I just called and said I couldn't make it in time for the restaurant and that I would meet them at the movie. I know that most of the visiting will occur at the restaurant and so I will miss out on that, but I am good with just going to the movie tonight.
K10, Dr. McDougall talks about how much Americans feast.....that it used to be that Christmas, Easter and birthdays were the feast times. He said now people feast every day. It seems like everyone wants to lose weight and yet everything is based around food.

The South Beach Diet email I got today said not to weigh more than once a week, and to judge more by the notches on your belt and how your clothes fit than by the scale. | Connie
| posted 20-Jan-2009 3:45pm
I think that is a great way to handle it. Good for you, your making your life and your healthy eating coexist. We need to be able to have both. Look what I have to do with cereal and stuff like that. Sometimes I put them in the back of my car before I go to bed. It works so I do it. Remember the sugar cookies Holly made? She left them out on a plate in the kitchen. You guessed it, I ate them about 2 am. There were about 9 of them. They were pretty small but most of them were iced, so I was really bummed the next morning. And I didn't feel so great. I have to do what works. I am a carboholic at night.
I absolutely agree with the South Beach attitude about weighing if you have a smaller amount of weight to lose. But if someone has a larger number to lose, they should see it on the scales. Like, if my doctor told me I was overweight and needed to lose 50 lbs. I would be thrilled when my clothes got looser, but I would still need to lose 50 lbs. You know what I mean. And it would help determine if the eating plan was working rather than wasting time.
Such a wonderful day. A lovely snow this morning, quiet all day. | Kathleen

Good morning. This is triplet mom. I really believe NFNS works. it took me 3 plus years to lose the weight. Exercise is very important to loosing the weight. I never joined a gym.
If you don't want to exercise. Start a to do list. When I felt lazy and did not want to go outside to go for a walk in the snow (I live in Alaska), I started a to do list. The first month I was NFNS- craved sugar and flour. I substitute non eating activities everytime I craved something. I had a list 1? organize my photos, 2. Clean out the cupboard etc.
If you have a to do list, you will at least move your body, and this is a painless way to exercise. I never joined a gym--waste of money and time to drive.
Turn on the radio for 30 minutes and dance at home. Go to an indoor mall and walk several times around the perimeter of the mall. Shovel snow, just keep moving. do household chores dusting, mopping, etc.

Hi Everyone...I have been watching all of the inaugural activities on TV this evening. I worked today so I DVR'd everything to watch tonight. This could be political suicide for me to say this but I did not vote for Barack Obama. I was concerned about his little experience and his questionable connections, however, I must say that I am truly pleased to see such a wonderful response at this inauguration. I have always thought that he was a wonderful speaker and I now truly feel inspired that he can pull this country together. Let us pray for much success fo this man and his family.
There are so many good ideas coming from all of you girls. I think I overdid it today on spinach salad. I have a bit of a stomachache tonight. My husband is asleep on the sofa downstairs. His appointment is Monday with the hematologist. Thanks for your concerns. Love too all of you also. | Kathleen

I did not vote for him. I have been impressed with him today for the first time. I liked his speech. I am still worried about his associations and his views on abortion and the war in Iraq. He could not have gotten a high security clearance government job because of his associations and now he is our commander in chief. We can not believe everything the media is feeding us. Bush did not create our economic problems by himself and Obama can not solve them alone either. We must pray for him to have wisdom and make the right decisions. | K10

I went to my class tonight. We had a weigh in, they took our picture, had us fill out our dieting history, and what our goals are. I think it will be good. I told them I don't want to know my weight and she said that may change as I go through the program. I hope it does, I don't want that number to matter so much.
I am going to lunch with my friend tomorrow. I wonder where we will go? She is very supportive and had a small struggle with her weight. It probably seemed huge to her, but she has maintained her loss and looks good. What types of foods do you get when you go to restaurants? What is a safe bet no matter where you go? I am still waiting for my book.
Is it ok to ask how old everyone is? Husband's, kid's and location, if you haven't given it to me yet?
We are supposed to get rain in the next couple of days. Yeah! I want you all to know, we wouldn't still be in So. Cal. if my parents were willing to move with us. We actually thought about moving back to MN, but it wasn't in God's plan for us at this time. I miss winter. I love snow, I don't mind rain. I really and truly hate the heat, no matter where it is and especially when it is supposed to be winter.

I did not vote for Obama either.....but then I am not an American citizen so there you go I am not sure I would have voted for him even if I had the opportunity but, it certainly would not have had anything to do with race. I love the fact that a black man is the President of the United States.....I just think we differ on certain issues.
Well I skipped going with the SOB's to dinner.....met them for the movie and then we all went out for dessert and to talk about the movie. It was a very timely movie with respect to the events of today....."The Secret lives of Bees". I am so glad that there is no longer the prejudice and horrible treatment of people based on race as there was in that time. Everyone ordered big gooey desserts and I certainly didn't want that.....I ordered sweet potatoes fries.....I make those at home all the time so I thought it would be a good choice. I had not realized they were going to be deep fried,,,,they tasted yummy but I think there was way too many calories in that dish. I don't plan to weigh in tomorrow. | Debbie M.

I'm 44 and my husband will be 45 in Feb. Our son is 15, and our 3 daughters are 13, 10 and 8. I'm a stay at home Mom. We camp about 10 weekends out of the year, mainly within 2 to 3 hours of home and go to Arkansas every year for a family reunion in June. Life is fast and loud in my life and I feel I get caught in the shuffle. My husband has been voted father and husband of the year by my friends for the last 10 years. He is truely all that and I don't know what I would do without him. I worked at a local hospital up until the day before my first was born as a switchboard operator. I have my liscence in beauty culture but have not worked in that industry for 20 years. I used to be athletic in high school with gymnastics and track but have not been active in my adult life due to the severing of my ACL's in both my knees. Still, I get along fine and love to ride my bike. I love to read although (like Bronwyn and Connie) I am picky about what I read. I'm more a biography and non-fiction kind of girl. I love flowers and gardening. If I had a "platform" it would be for world wide clean drinking water. 193.5 today. Your still moving down the scale Debbie, good for you! I weighed in at 147.6 this morning. I have to admit, I was beginning to become a bit annoyed with my scales! I have really stayed at the same spot, or dancing around it, for quit awhile. Of course, I know why...cheese. But it occurs to me that we are still losing at the time of the year when most people are gaining, or struggling to maintain. Really, we should all be so proud. Just think about what we can do when we can get out and really move around.
I am seriously considering cutting out most of my cheese. This is a commitment I do not take lightly. I really hate to do it, but I think it's necessary. I know I keep bringing it up, but I always go back to it. Hmmmm. I wonder if I can do it. I would still eat cottage cheese. I'll try it for a few days.
K10, when is weigh in? It seems like it's taking forever! I'm 50 next month. I was born and raised in MI, but have been in TN for 30 years. 2 kids...son, 27...lives at home while remodeling house across the street. Daughter, 21...in dorm...I still can't discuss her without wanting to scream!
Cold again here today. I'm waiting for the call from the vet. I'm running to the store to check out the produce. That was good advice Hilda. Yesterday I had one of my asian pears, sounds healthy right? Well, I thought it would be even better with chunks of muenster cheese. And it was. But I ended up eating a huge amount of cheese. I am a lost cause when it comes to cheese. Somebody...stop me.

I'm 56 and my husband, Tom, is 69. I have two children, a daughter, age 38 and a son, age 33(both by my first husband). This is both Tom's and my second marriage. He doesn't have any children of his own, however we are raising his neice (she is 17 years old now). She has been living with us since she has been 6 years old. Tom's sister is unable to take care of her (she has some problems) so we take care of his sister as well, but not in our home. We have purchased a second residence (where she lives), so our responsibilites at times seem huge. Tom's sister and I can absolutely not live together....like oil and water....we have tried. My daughter and her husband have 2 children, Gracie,2 1/2 years old and Jack,6 months. We live in Maryland and I work the front desk in a dental office. I play the piano and when I was younger I use to teach piano privately in my home and through the rec council at some elementary schools. Life moves fast for us as well, however I am not so fast on my feet anymore due to my arthritic knees...I'm the girl who needs the knee replacements. I currently weigh 304.2 and I am racing Debbie M to 150....nuff about me, too. | K10

Thanks to those of you who filled me in on who you are.
Debbie M: Where do you live?
Connie: I weighed 194 at the weigh in at our Fat Folks class that is what my hubby and I are jokingly calling it. My goal is 130. I hopefully will not know what I weigh for a long time, it messes with my head too much.
Stacie: is triple mom, correct? From Alaska? Young, from what I have read?
Kathleen and Hilda: can I get info on you?
Bronwyn: you are in Canada, correct? Married? I know we have the same scale experience from what you told me.
I did not vote for Obama. I am a proud American who feels he was placed in the office of president by God and that we are to pray for our leaders and our country.
It is overcast today and we are supposed to get rain tonight, I believe. We need it. I live near where the fires were in November, if any of you heard about that? The closest one was about 5 miles from us. We had so much ash everywhere. We had leaves in our backyard that were green on one side and black on the other, it was horrible.
I am going to lunch with my friend today. I will make good choices.
Good Day All.

Hi K10, I live in Northern Indiana. Just a stones throw from the University of Notre Dame. Of course I'm a big fan. Its the only football I watch. I was born here and have never lived anywhere else. I just love a camping weekend where there is a game on. We take the TV outside the camper and put it on the picnic table with a bunch of snacks and pull up the lawn chairs. We have a couple beers while the kids run around and ride their bikes. You can tell which campers are fans of which team because of the cheers from far off. It's really fun. We are currently shopping for a bigger camper. Life is good! God is good!~ | Connie

K10, you posted your weight today. Is that the weigh in we have all been waiting for? Is it what you thought it would be? Can you tell if your making progress?
So far today, no cheese. I had Uncle Sam's cereal with dried blueberries and Splenda. Really yummy! I bought some banana's as well as a Fugi and Gala apple. That will be my snack today. I'll pick one.
Bronwyn, I just started book 4. It's huge. But I hope to be done with it soon so I can begin something else. I don't see how there can be a happy ending, but Holly says there is one, so I'm going to keep going.
Time to iron and tidy up around here. No word from the vet yet. Later. | Bronwyn

Connie I wonder if you are getting K10's weigh in confused with Kathleen's.....it is Kathleen that has been waiting a long time and I believe her weigh in is Monday.
I just can't drag myself all the way through the rest of book 3.....but I will I guess. Then of course there is book 4 still sitting there....groan, that is the end isn't it? My friend wanted me to go to "Twilight" with her tonight and I suggested we go to "The Boy In Striped Pyjamas" instead as it is at the 5 buck movie place and wait until "Twilight" gets there to begin to consider going to it ($12.....would be ridiculous). I wish I had read the book first..."Boy in Striped P.J.'s".....the book is always better than the movie.
So the deep fried sweet potatoes and the curry dip didn't not affect my weight....not yet anyways. I still don't think that the intent of NFNS was to be eating our veggies deep fried Of course I won't lose even though I didn't gain.
Connie,,,,,you work on your cheese and I will work on my nut consumption....of course I am not eating chocolate but oooohh la, la, nuts....that is a different story.

Well, I am a cheese junkie...I'm going through withdraw!!!! I had my banana and was not satisfied so I had a plain rice cake. Then I really was unsatisfied, so I topped 2 more with some cottage cheese and a sprinkling of Cavenders. Much better. Now I'm nibbling on pistachios. I'll be careful with them.
Sorry Kathleen that I mixed you up with K10. I should have scrolled up and checked. My brain cells are so stretched!
I haven't decided on what to do for dinner tonight. If no husband, liver and onions, if husband, pork medallions. I just don't feel like cooking.
The vet called. It was a mixed bag of news, we need more tests. Next up, a stool sample. Oh boy!!!!

I went to Chinese food with my friend today. I know this sounds like an oxymoron, but it is a place that makes the food healthier than most. I did ask which dishes had the least amount of added sugar. So I ended up with something called Buddah's Delight, veggies with a "white type" sauce, it isn't sweet. I ate some of the egg-drop soup and I asked for brown rice, but they were out. I didn't eat all of my soup, rice or veggies, big accomplishment for me. I hope I made a decent choice???
Connie: Sorry about the issues with your kitty. It is ok that you mixed me up with Kathleen, I thought maybe you hadn't seen my post with my weight.
I think I am going to make pizza for dinner. I found some Ezekiel pitas today and I have a spaghetti sauce without added sugar, mozarella cheese and saute some onions. My kids might like it.

Connie you are going to have to ration your cheese in little baggies and when it's gone for the day you're done. Same for the nuts. Do you eat hard boiled eggs? I am having my fruit now separate from my meals. 1/2 banana when I first get up, then breakfast, then an orange mid morning, then an apple late afternoon.

Good evening. Day 24 is coming to a close. Yes, weigh in is on Monday. Bought a new scale. I am going to have my sons test it first. I will try to weigh myself only once, not repeatedly getting on to see if it registers the same. I feel and see the difference already. My stomach is 'smaller', comparatively. I think my face looks thinner. I know there is some weight loss, just not sure on what it might be. I am not burned out on this nfns way of life. I still know that I cannot stray back to the sweets at all yet, if ever. I don't want to back slide.
5 days til weigh in. ps: married 22 years, 43, 20 year old daughter who also makes me want to scream (thank goodness she is out of the house), sons 17 and 14. Morning all. Hilda, I'm with you on the "missing in action" ladies...where are they? I wish them well, wherever that is.
I have been very surprised about my cheese limiting. Let me try to explain this in some kind of order. My sister with the gluten intolerance has eliminated dairy. She began having gastrointestinal difficulties after eating cheese, etc. She mentioned this to me when we were at home after Christmas. My husband had begun thinking I had a gluten intolerance as well, sometimes I had some symptoms. I have felt better on this eating plan. So, yesterday I only had some cottage cheese. And not much of it. This morning when I weighed in the scales read 145.6. Could that be because of my limiting my cheese? I don't know. But I'm going to stay with it. My stomach does feel flatter and less gassy. I haven't done this long enough to really claim such great results because of lack of cheese, but I am going to be very aware of it. Does anyone know if soy milk has sugar in it? I could maybe use that on my cereal.
Cold again today, but the sun is out. Yesterday I had a grown up moment. For years and years I wore sweat suits to go to work. And no makeup and no fingernails. But yesterday I was at a stop light and I looked at my hands. My nails were longish and polished. My hair and makeup were done and I was wearing my diamonds. I almost didn't recognize myself! But, it felt good. I was also wearing my new coat I got for Christmas. I know it sounds vain, but what a boost. We should all have moments like that once in awhile.
Bronwyn, It sounds like you have completely switched your day and night times. My neighbor is like that. Any chance you could stay up one morning instead of going to bed and try to switch back? It is going to take awhile to switch again.

Bronwyn: So sorry about the sleep thing. Did you give me any info. on you and I just missed it? I don't mean to be pushy, I am just trying to picture in my mind who you all are.
Stacie (triple mom): same question for you.
It is funny, I start picturing what you all may look like. Kind of like when I talk to a friend on the phone and start picturing what their house looks like, before I actually see it. Of course, it is never accurate.
My book still hasn't come in at Border's. Hopefully by tomorrow.
I just realized I could make enchiladas if the sauce doesn't have sugar in it. That will make me happy.
Have a great day everybody. | Bronwyn

Hi Everyone! Welcome K10! Sorry I haven't been writing. I started getting a little overwhelmed with work and home stuff, so I needed to focus my energy on getting some things done. Today is a better day. I've been NFNS since the 5th. I've not gotten on the scale. I want to try going on how I feel. I've noticed that my mood swings have slowed down alot, I'm sleeping SO much better - 7.5 hours without waking up 2-5 times during the night. My joints feel better, too. I like this feeling. I don't miss the flour and sugar foods as much as I thought I would. Haven't had indigestion since the 5th either. My clothes feel about the same, but I'm okay with that for now. More important to adjust to being off the flour and sugar. The weight will come off once I focus on exercising. I've also started taking vitamins and supplements twice a day instead of just in the morning. I think that it's contributing to my overall well-being. K10, you asked about everyone's background: I'm from New England, married almost 15 years to a great guy, no children, just a 14 year old cat (who thinks she's still a kitten). Love to play piano, read, do cross-stitch, garden, going to the movies or renting them from Netflicks, hang out with my women friends, etc.

Bronwyn, I'm almost half way through book 4 and it is very interesting. I must admit I'm extremely curious how it is going to work out in the end. Hang there, it get's better.
I stayed away from the cheese today. But I may have done myself in anyway. I nuked a sweet potato, mashed it up, put on some butter, and then put it on top of a rice cake. It was so good, I had 2. But I did end up with butter instead of cheese. So, I skipped my side with dinner to try and make up. Also today a banana and a bowl of cereal. I'm quit full. I hope I can see a difference giving up cheese. | Stacie/Triplet mom

snack - coffee, almonds and raisins,
lunch, Ezkiel bread, chicken, lettuce, bell peppers, pickles,
snack banana bread from NFNS cookbook and water
dinner carrot/potato soup, corn tortilla with humuus, baked chicken.
evening snack, sliced apple with cinnamon and oatmeal sprinkled. green tea.
I eat 100& NFNS. My kids eat are on NFNS and they are healthy.
My triplets wanted pizza for lunch, so I take corn tortilla, bake it in the oven with olive oil. Then I make my own tomatoe paste. I chop up vegetables, bell peppers, olives, tofu sausage, soy cheese, . I have the kids make their own pizza. I add the chicken when they are ready to bake their pizza. It's fun!

Did well today. So busy at work, but had hard boiled egg, cheddar cheese and corn chips for lunch, @ 4:30pm!! Got home and had ezekiel bread and jam and hot cocoa. Not terribly balanced, but I easily resisted the cookies at the store today!! 4 days til weigh in. Sounds like Mish is doing things similar to me, not weighing in often. I didn't weigh in when I started this 25 days ago, so my first weigh in is on Monday. But I feel such a difference in my clothes. Actually looking forward to adding a little exercise next week. Bought 'Proud Mary' by Ike and Tina Turner today on itunes. I think I will be dancing next week to that one. That is always great exercise and fun!!! Good night all. I am so encouraged by each of you.
I was a bit disappointed at dinner when I realized the salsa I had with my dinner had sugar added. It was number 5 or 6 on the list and the label said less than 1 gram of sugar per serving.
I have been full since dinner, so I haven't eaten and I don't plan on having a snack at this point. Late in the evening after everyone else is in bed is when I have a hard time not snacking.
Stacie: What kinds of things will you be serving at your Superbowl Party? Please give me some party ideas. My 14 year old daughter was going to start doing this diet and I think it will benefit her well, but 2 days were enough for her. I am just trying to encourage small serving sizes, making better choices with foods. It is such a fine line with girls. I think she will see the substitutes are good and that Dad and I are committed, she may jump on better.
Has anyone found bacon or sausage that doesn't have added sugar? I know things like salami don't tend to, but I know I will probably start missing bacon eventually.
I hope my book arrives at Borders tomorrow. I want to start reading it.
Hilda: Way to go on the size 14's. I have probably 20 pairs of jeans that are 14's. I received them from different friends who had lost weight quite a while ago. They are shoved under my bed.
This morning when I got up I noticed that my stomach didn't seem so large, I've been less gassy and so I shared that observation with my mom and tonight of course I am having issues with bloated tummy and the other that is involved. I always seem to when I start eating more veggies and whole grains. I feel like I can really do this way of life.
I am finishing up day 4 and I am happy with all of this.
Thanks for the encouragement. Have a happy weekend.

K10, I have found sugar free bacon at WM. I had to read every label, but it is there. Well, I hope it is at yours too. Be careful with the processed meats. They should be an occasional food item. I am always amazed at how good I can eat and how good I feel on this plan.
Hilda, I remember when I went down in sizes (2) to my favorite jeans. That was an awesome feeling. Now they are sooo baggy! Keep it going. I am going to look for some different peanut butter than the one I have. I bought the Smuckers (I think) that gets stirred and goes in the frig after opening. It is hard as a rock. I threw it away. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with it, but I couldn't make it work for me.
Kathleen, how wonderful you can tell a difference in your clothes. Do you notice that you move differently as well? I can't wait for your weigh in, although I wish you knew your weight before you started. Do you have a general idea of what your weight used to be? Just curious.
Triplet mom, I could use some super bowl food ideas too. Pass them along, thanks.
Bronwyn, enjoy your trip...stay warm! Keep reading. I have 100 pages before I finish book 4 and I didn't want to stop reading last night.
This morning I weighed in at 144.5!!!!! I don't get it, is it just the cheese that's making me lose again? I am so surprised. Of course without the cheese I am eating less chips. Maybe it's an all over calorie reduction. But I did notice Triplet Mom uses soy cheese. Hmmm. We'll see where it goes from here. With such great results, it makes giving up cheese a lot easier. Anyway, so far I have lost 43.5 lbs on NFNS which I began on July 21. I have stayed true to the program, only messing up a handful of times. I am proof this plan works, especially well over time.
Taking mother in law to doc today. I am going to stop at the health food store and buy some Bible bread. Speghetti tonight with rice pasta and garlic toast. Can't wait. | Mish

I love the optimism when I read all of your posts. It really lifts me up and I feel much more confident that we can all do this together! Hilda, I bought the Fifty Fifty raspberry spread and it's very good on the bible toast. Connie, I had the exact same thing happen with the Smuckers peanut butter. I think it's going to happen with all natural peanut butter because you have to really mix the oil in each time and keep it in the 'fridge so it doesn't go rancid. Anybody have another brand or is this the way it goes with the all natural stuff? I had leftover meatloaf and spinach last night. This morning was oatmeal and a banana. Feeling a lot of energy today and I remember back to the Fridays before NFNS and I could barely drag myself through the day. If you can keep yourself motivated, each day is a gift. At this point, when I want something that has f or s, I try to stop and congratulate myself for taking good care of my health and that seems to work to keep me on the right path. Connie, the rice pasta and garlic toast sounds yummy! This is pizza night for my husband, so maybe I'll do the spaghetti. He's very active -- runs 3-5 miles every other day, and goes on 4-5 hour hikes on Saturdays. Once I shed some of this weight and get more fit, I'd like to be able to join him in the springtime. Hiking in the freezing cold, snow and ice is not my idea of a good time! Happy Friday to all and have a healthy and safe weekend! | Hilda

Calling the Ezekiel brand bread "Bible bread" may be confusing for some if they are looking for it at their Health Food store. Please give the specific brands you find that are good and where you find them. What is the brand of bacon at Wal -Mart? | K10

Connie: I bought some rice pasta, how does it taste? I have found that since I have made up my mind that this is what I can eat, how good it actually it is. The Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread is yummy. You are really inspiring me. I am close to the weight you were when you started, and to see what you have accomplished in 6 months is awesome. Especially with the holidays thrown in between there. Thanks for the info about the bacon, I will check and see. I want to save processed meats as an occasional thing, they have so much salt and other things in there. I like buying them without the nitrites and such when I can.
The peanut butter I am using is Laura Scudders natural peanut butter. You need to do a good job of mixing them in the beginning to spread out the oil. At the bottom of the jar it gets harder to spread, I wonder if a little bit of oil was added, would that help? I have bought peanut butter at Trader Joe's and our Costco had Organic peanut butter with no added sugar.
What types of foods do you gals order when you go out to eat at sit down restaurants and fast food. I know there will be times when I don't have a choice and I would like to know what you order. I am going to be attending a church celebration that is having BBQ ribs and chicken I believe. Would it be best to have the chicken and remove the skin, or should I just avoid the meat all together? I am hoping they have green salad. This is the type of thing that will make it hard. My parents will be there too and they are doing NFNS, so that will help.
I hope to start walking next week. I have a treadmill, but I do better with walking outside. I have hills in my neighborhood, so it is an ideal place to walk.
We are actually having some rain today. We need it so badly. My dog doesn't like to go out when it rains, she loves the snow, but not the rain. We even had a rain coat for her, but she is too long for it now.
I will check in later. I hope you all have a great weekend. | Debbie M.

Hello everyone, I had Ezekiel bread with turkey for lunch. And Puffed wheat( 7 whole grain puffs) cereal (Kashi) with 1% milk for breakfast. An orange for snack.
Connie, My husband had to take soy milk for a while after his gastric bypass. Just look at the labels to see if there is sugar. Some of the flavored ones might. He is ok with regular milk now but he did use the soy for a while. I would think it would taste ok with the flavor of the cereal combined. Some people like it, some don't. It is really amazing how your weight has been going down since your restriction of cheese. Cheese is very caloric so it just might be the general reduction in calories, like you said. I'm very proud of you.
193 today for me. Oh to break through to the 180's. I haven't lost in 2 months. Up and down the same 2 pounds. My lowest was 191 one day, I think. I can't say I have tried real hard though and I have been so seditary. I need to move more and eat less. I really have to watch that hummus. A container has 800 calories in it. A couple times I have sat down and ate the whole thing with tortilla chips. It's so good I couldn't stop. Just mindless eating. I have to stop that. I've said it before and I'll say it again. At least I'm not back up to my original weight. I have to pat myself on the back for that. C'mon spring, I miss riding my bike.
I will be going to my nephews 19th birthday party tonight. Wish me luck with temptation. I will take somethings I can have. :o)

I can't remember the name of the bacon, I'll get some soon and let you know. When I first heard about Ezekiel bread, it was called Bible bread and I always think of it as such. I'll have to look for that Kashi cereal, I didn't know they made one with F&S.
A regular restaurant would not be hard to order in...meat, side and veggie. Fast food would be harder. I remember a year ago McDonald's admitted to putting sugar on their salads to make them more tasty. It was a wide spread practice. I think I would go with a piece of grilled chicken and a baked potato. Or a burger, throw away the bun. I would stay away from fast food. I always carry a baggie with cashews for such an emergency. And a banana when I know I'll be out at lunch time. Those two items, either alone or together, can get you by for hours.
Hang in there Debbie, your holding your own during this cold snowy winter. Your still down and soon you will be a lot more active. But, yeah, go ahead and can the mindless eating. Think "nutrition" when you choose your snacks. Maybe it will help you eat less if you imagine the good stuff your getting while not overdoing it. | Hilda

Applebee's has a Weight Watcher Menu that would be better for you than pigging out on something fried and battered. Ruby Tuesday has a great salad bar, just skip the pasta and croutons. Cracker Barrel will give you the plain baked chicken that they use in the Chicken and Dumplins on a kid's meal with a side salad. Carry your own Triscuits in your purse. Taco Bell has Pintos and Cheese. Take your own corn chips to a Mexican Restaurant if you have to. "Be prepared "has to be our motto. You could even take a small container of cooked brown rice to a Chinese restaurant if they don't have it.
I just had a half can of Campbell's Select Harvest Healthy Request Mexican Style Chicken Tortilla Soup. 130 calories.
I also went to my State Farm insurance office and got the free 50 million pound challenge kit. It has a booklet, CD and free pedometer. Hope it has some good tips.

When at a resturant stick with a salad and dressing on the side. Dip your fork into the dressing before you stab the salad. You still get the intended flavor with a lot less calories. Or take your own dressing. A dry ranch packet has no sugar as many salad dressings do (specially fat free versions), just mix it with a fat free sour cream and/or fat free yogurt. It's a guilt free alternative for a salad dressing and dip for veggies. Grilled chicken or lean steak and grilled veggies for a side can be had most anywhere also. The South Beach Diet has an eating-out book that names popular resturants and has recommendations for each of them. Let me know where you are going and I'll look it up for you. I have the book.
I'm taking deviled eggs made with mayo and splenda and a veggie tray, with the for mentioned dip to my party tonight.ALso Salsa and tortilla chips. So I will have something to have and share.
Great week end to you all. | Connie

Went out to dinner tonight, just me and husband. It was nice, we rarely have time alone. I ate pretty darn well. Beans and rice and only a tiny bit of cheese dip. I feel fine, not bloated and so I end another day with a huge reduction in my cheese consumption. That has to be good for me.
Nice night everyone. | K10

I had some brown rice pasta with tomato sauce. That was a good substitute, I wouldn't have realized it wasn't regular pasta if I hadn't known. The kids even liked it. I bought it at Trader Joe's. I tried Stevia, I didn't care for it, I will be taking it back to Trader Joe's. When I go to Trader Joe's I am buying some frozen pineapple, it is really good.
I got my NFNS diet book today, I can't wait to read it and learn more. Hubby went up to see his dad and brother this weekend, I hope he has a good time. I hope I stay strong while he is gone. I haven't been tempted yet. The key word there is yet. I always figure while I have the strength and motivation to be committed I am going to be that way. So far, so good.
Take care.

I am wanting to try brown rice and asparagus together. Looking for recipes. The State Farm packet was actually a DVD geared to black dieters, but good for anyone I thought. The pedometer has the batteries included. I am anxious to see how many steps I actually do take in a day. | Kathleen

Dinner yesterday: baked talapia in a Trader Joe's sauce and spooned over wheat couscous. Steamed mustard greens with parmesean and mozzarella. Yum-e.
This morning I have baked since the first time on nfns. My Aunt's 80th and I was asked to bring a dessert. Eeks. I made lemon spritz cookies with lemon glaze frosting. Did NOT sample batter or cookies. First few minutes it was difficult, but then, no. I cannot believe it. I will have to take them all out of the house because I could easily slide back tonight when we get home. It can be done, I can resist. I put a 1/2 pea-size taste of the frosting on my tongue to verify the lemon strength, but nothing else. Day 27. Weigh in on Monday. I will post as soon as I weigh in. Thanks for being here for me to post and for your support. Connie you ARE an inspiration!!

Kathleen: We can have whole wheat couscous? I wasn't sure. How do you make yours? Great job on the cookies and not eating them. I can't wait to hear what you have lost.
Stacie: What are you making for Super Bowl?
You all are really inspiring me. Thanks so much. I am going back and reading some of the older posts. It is interesting to read and see what differences have happened in your lives. Some of you really have some struggles at home.
Good Day. | Connie

Hi guys. Busy morning. Family from out of town visiting, staying at mother in laws...luckily! Didn't get a chance to weigh this morning. Darn. Tomorrow for sure. Finally got some more bible bread, the one like wheat, and toasted some for breakfast. Husband likes it. It is all I'll buy for him now as well. I'm thinking about incorporating some "veggie only" days into my diet. Well, at dinner I would have a small piece of lean meat for protein. Sounds like a good idea. Having the mashed sweet potato on my rice cake the other day made me think of it. I need to think about it some more. It wouldn't be a chore...I would only eat veggies I like a lot.
I'm going to spend some time outside today picking up pecans. It's chilly, but sunny and I'm kind of looking forward to it. Also, my son wants me to shoot his new pistol. Whatever! I'm not a fan of guns, but my husband is from a military family and he has been raised around them a little bit. Anyway, I've never shot one and he has been bugging me to just do it once.
Great day to everyone. I hope everyone is enjoying the return of normal life after the holidays. So much hustle and bustle and temptation during that time. Now we can all settle in to winning the war on fat and excess weight. Much success to all today. | Stacie

For the superbowl party I get all my no flour no sugar recipes from
www.happy2beme.com or Dr. gott's cookbook.
I think I may serve bean cheese and chili with corn chips. Squash spahetti, salads, corn tortilla with humuss, beef rib soup, for desesrts, apple crisp, and banana muffins, for beverages green tea, water, or soymilk. I warn my guest ahead of time I'm serving only NFNS food. If my guest don't like what I serve they can eat before coming to my house.
For exercise I just walked around the mall and shopped at Target. Tonight we are going to our local bowling alley to bowl. The kids bowl while my husband and I talk beginning ballroom dance lessons at the bowling alley. | Kathleen

The ingredients on the whole wheat couscous are: whole durum wheat semolina. Help! I don't want to be eating it if it is considered a flour!!
Aunt's party: shrimp, cashews, fruit...not bad. Sure wanted some of my sis-in-law's caramels though!! I didn't.
Day 27 coming to a close. Can't wait to weigh in on Monday!!

I had El Pollo Loco for dinner. They had their nutrition information posted. I had 2 chicken legs (value menu)and spanish rice with some of the avocado sauce. None of the things I had, show sugars on the information that was given. I hope it was accurate. Nothing I can do about it now. I think this will be my fast food stand by. As I sit here, I am thinking I should have only had one chicken leg. I am full. Hopefully, this will carry me through the night.
I am going to work on writing down everything I eat each day. I hope you all have a good night. | K10

Morning. 145.5 this morning. Woohoo!
K10, I googled semolina and I must say I learned a lot. Wikipedia made it sound like it is not a flour, but something removed in the initial process of milling, still, not yet ground into a flour. I think it must be ok. Dr Gott said we could eat things that do not have the word flour in the ingredients list. I think your ok if flour is not listed. Wikipedia said it as the same thing as cream of wheat.
I made my speghetti last night. Homemade sauce and rice noodles. We loved the noodles. Our company could not tell they were eating NFNS. Even the NFNS bread, toasted and sprinkled with garlic salt, was sooooo good. I have ate some great stuff over the last couple of days. Once again, I have to say, I love this eating plan.
Two nights ago I made pork medallions with a light cream sauce. Tasted amazing and the presentation was fit for an elegant meal. In the final step of preparation I needed to add some dijon mustard, which I found out I was out of. So, I substituted honey mustard. I knew there was some sugar in it, but at that point I didn't have any choice. It was awesome tasting. The fam loved it. So now I'm thinking in the future I'll add part mustard, part NS jelly. I have made this recipe before, but the sweetness improved it immensely. I'll post the recipe in case anyone would like to try it. I served it with long grain and wild rice with a veggie side.
Great day everyone! | Debbie M.

Ate out at IHOP this morning. Yummy omlette and hashbrowns. I didn't finish either, like usual, and brought home the rest. I will have for breakfast tomorrow after weigh in!! Day 28 is today. I am preparing dinner. Home made spaghetti sauce. I will layer that with corn tostadas, ricotta cheese, italian sausage, mozzarella cheese and cook for 30 mins or so for a lasagna type dinner. Cannot wait! I was following the 'no flour in the ingredient list' rule with the couscous. Thanks for all the input. I really enjoyed it and look forward to having it again.
I just don't have the snacking appetite anymore since nfns, even at night which was the worst for me!! I don't know, but this is working out great!!!
See you all tomorrow.

I cooked 2 cups of Minute brown rice in some gluten free boullion and added a small can of drained mushrooms, a can of drained asparagus tips, some gluten free soy sauce and Smart Balance margarine, and for my mom a couple of strips of bacon, in mine some leftover chicken. | K10

Kathleen: I can't wait to see how your weigh-in goes.
I will be weighed at my class on Tuesday, but I will not be told what I weigh. I tried on a pair of pants that don't fit and I will use those as a judge for my loss. I think at this time that will work better for me.
I didn't cheat at all this weekend. I did eat too much in the night before bed, but it was all NFNS. I am journaling (1 L or 2?) what I am eating. I had a couple of sips of my husbands diet soda today, it hasn't triggered a Pepsi craving. I would really rather stay away from all soda if I can.
I like Cream of Wheat. I hope the whole wheat couscous is an ok thing to eat, I cook it in chicken broth, it makes for a quick and easy side dish. I have even added stuffing seasonings to it and it makes a good substitute when having turkey.
Good Night | Kathleen

Good morning. While I now wish I had weighed in 28 days ago, I didn't. Down 8 pounds in 28 days according to my memory and getting on the scale 2 seconds ago. That is 2 pounds a week, 32 sticks of butter, 2-4 pound bags of sugar, almost a whole sack of potatoes. Good solid start. Of course 20 pounds would have been awesome, but unrealistic!!! I am getting used to this. 8 pounds and feeling great!! Thank you guys for your support! I will weigh in again in 4 weeks.
