Janie we have exactly the same road of weight loss to travel. In many ways I think I don't believe I will ever lose this weight.....I have been battling it for so long and my battles don't seem to make me lighter. I did lose 43 lbs. about 4 years ago but I am looking at losing that same 43 lbs. plus about 7 more. I am so tired of the way it makes me feel to be overweight.....it is on my mind all of the time (that just isn't very healthy emotionally). Losing and then gaining weight is emotionally devastating. Shopping for clothes is depressing. Lets let this weight go....get rid of it and move on...okay Janie we can do it. Going without flour and sugar just isn't as difficult as it sounds when you get started but for me I have to let go of my obsessive eating behaviours as well. I didn't think I could quit eating sugar but I can.....I can go without chocolate...WOW!!!! I did lose 10 lbs. on NFNS in Feb and March (so in 2 months). It seemed that the weight loss had stopped and I gave up......I think too early as I may have been able to lose more if I had been patient. I have gained 5 back......now I am back in the game I have been doing NFNS for 9 days again.....and I am happy to be doing that but I haven't lost any weight. Hey if you consume your weight in nuts every day what is the chances of losing weight, eh I can eat nuts more reasonably and I am going to do that. This is a better program than W.W. IMHO. When I did weight watchers I made bad choices......and then would be hungry and fail. On NFNS you are steered towards healthy choices..... |

Why don't you portion out your 23 almonds for the day in baggies and only take out one bag a day. Hide the rest. Or you may have to stop buying them altogether for awhile. |

Hilda I think sticking with almonds or walnuts would be a good idea, they are both so good for you. I have been over consuming cashew nuts. I think I will not buy cashews for a good long time.....I find it hard to quit eating cashews. I have heard 12 almonds and a handful of walnuts would be a healthy amount of nuts to eat each day....I think I will strive for that. I like some walnuts on my cottage cheese and fruit.
Tres you can have anything that doesn't have flour (any kind of flour) or sugar in it. You can choose to have red meat or any other kind of meat as long as it is prepared without flour or sugar. You could have your potato with butter or sour cream if you wish and you can have sweet potato. Hilda has listed a lot of food lists that are helpful to have to get started. If you go back through these posts Leslie listed a lot of helpful things to inspire you and get you started. There are not many restrictions actually.....you can eat well and eat good things. That being said making good food choices and being aware of portion sizes will improve your chances for having success at weight loss.
Tres for breakfast I often have cottage cheese with chopped fresh fruits and a handful of walnuts chopped on top. Sometimes I have steel cut oats topped with sugar free yoghurt, fruit and nuts. I also occasionally have ezekial bread toasted and topped with low fat cream cheese and sugar free jam or peanut butter and bananas. I find a satisfying snack or even using it as a dessert can be a small banana split in half and spread with a mixture of lowfat cream cheese mixed with a small amount of peanut butter and a half a glass of skim milk. Right now the fresh blueberries are delicious....pour a very small amount of cream (or yoghurt) on them and a touch of splenda....delicious!!!! YOu could have whole wheat muffets or ezekial cereal. I am not a big egg fan but you could have eggs and ezekial toast. Eating isn't all that different from what you eat now. YOu could make an 'egg mcmuffin" with canadian bacon, eggs and a little cheese on ezekial bread. Good luck getting going you will like it..... |

Unsalted almonds (or walnuts) are much healthier than cashews and much less addicting. I couldn't keep cashews around without over indulging. Lets face it, they are heaven in a can. No human being can resist them. |

Bronwyn, thanks for the encouragement. I need it! You are right, the plan is easy to follow and I can do without sugar and flour pretty easily if I can just watch my portion control. I too love nuts and eat way too many. Trader Joes has a really good no flour bread (like Ezekial) and no sugar peanut butter. I love candy (my biggest weakness) and the sugar free candies you can buy are really good but don't agree with me at all (the same with sugar free ice cream). I need to get back on an exercise program. I started having heel pain and stopped but it's better now so I need to start up again. Do you guys exercise?? I am beginning to think I can't lose weight without exercise. I don't enjoy doing it so I usually make up an excuse not to go to the gym. Have a good weekend everyone!! |

Greg I had to laugh about the heaven in a can....you are so right and I bought them at a nut place so more fresh and even more heavenly than the canned ones. Listen who was I trying to kid as I kept buying these cashews and telling myself that I would only eat a few.......geesh as if I didn't know better than that The last batch of cashews are gone and they will not be replenished.....there and I mean it!
Tres read the ingredients on cheerios I don't have any here to check but I am sure they will have oat flour and certainly sugar. Dr. Gott thinks diet soda's are okay as far as I know but information out there now says that diet soda hinders weight loss.....and makes you crave. I only drink it occasionally but overall I have never been a big pop drinker. I did nutisytem years ago....I was not successful I made dinner for my family ate the boring little packages of the prepared nutrisystem food and then would end up also eating what I made for dinner......I really don't think that packaged food leads to a life style change. My friend stuck to the program, lost 35 lbs. and then ended up having to have her gall bladder out. The Dr. said it defininetly was related to the diet. I hit a rock or something in one of the food packages and severly broke a tooth that I still have trouble with today.......how do you like that for an ad for Nutri-system
Janie candy and especially chocolate are so totally my downfall.......I have eaten so much sugar stuff in my life.....like out of control type eating. I think if you have trouble with the sugar free stuff it may be the malitol sweetener that causes the problem. I know that I feel pretty sick if I eat more than 2 or 3 sugar free chocolate candies.....and for some reason even knowing that I still do it, geesh There is one I buy occasionally because it tastes good......no ofter taste and is lower in calories than alot of the sugar free chocolates. Although I buy it here in Canada, looking at the package I see that it is made in the States. The brand name is Sorbee and the candy is "Peppermint Patties". They are only 30 calories a piece and really quite yummy. The Russel Stover and Weight Watcher ones are about twice that high in calories. Actually I just noticed on the package that the States imports them from Germany....the website is www.sorbee.com I have a hard time sticking to 2 or 3 but when I eat more I don't get sick like with the other brands.
Janie I struggle to get serious with the exercise...off and on and always have to push myself. I am having problems with my knees...gee do you think it could be the extra 50 lbs. I have carried around for ever..... Anyways I have a stationary recumbant bike I try to ride daily but really only happens about twice a week.......I am going to bump that up.
I still haven't lost any wieght.....10 days but it is going to happen. We can do this.........be patient (I speak mostly to myself for that one)!!! I am sure that we all have bad habits to over come.......or I doubt we would have weight to lose right........this is a program of change in more ways than just weight and it will take time. Truly lets give this program a good year and see where we are at then. I think if we applied our selves to making these changes that in a years time we will all be free of this oppressing and depressing excess weight we are all carrying around. A year will give us time for this to be a lifestyle........no more on and off; up and down; stuffing and starving.......just pure wonderful freedom from the excess weight!!!! |

I was not expecting to like it but after no pasta for 2 weeks the barley tasted great. I have had no sugar and no flour and have switched to low fat cheese. I couldn't bring myself to switch to brown rice. Still using Uncle Ben's converted rice. As long as I can lose 1 lb per week I'm not going to make any more changes. Goal 180 lbs. |

Good for you, but change is good. It's funny how people's tastes are different. I like the brown rice just fine. After switching to it, when I would eat a Lean Cuisine before, I felt like I was being cheated because all their dishes had white rice. I kept thinking, haven't they got any nutritionists that know anything on staff? I had read the Sugar Busters book and knew the difference. I am trying to make the change to get off the diet soda. That is a hard one for me, even thought I only drink maybe one serving a day. |

Ok everyone....day one of starting this change of life. This morning I had oatmeal with splenda, a piece of 100% whole wheat bread dry and a bananna. Now it is lunch....I have a turkey sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread, celery and carrots with a dip (Hidden Valley Mix with Sour Cream - I don't know if that is allowed or not.....there is no sugar in it. Does anybody know?) and a diet coke. Can't give up coke....I was addicted to leaded coke (one in the morning, one in the afternoon sometimes two and at least one at night). I switched to Diet and Diet Caffene Free, but can't give those up yet. I drink one a day and water the entire day. Exercise.....I was planning on getting up early this morning and getting on the treadmill.....didn't happen...darn snooze button. I will try tomorrow morning. I will get on it tonight but I had heard that in the morning before breakfast is the best time to exercise. |

The NSNF Diet sounds alot like some parts of Suzanne Somers' diet. There are lots of great recipes on her website or just google "somersizing". I've always thought that somehow sugar affects my health and I feel better when I eliminate sugar. I've lost weight in the past doing somersize, but have gained it back once I go back to the old ways of eating refined carbs & sugar. |

Greg thanks for asking but no I haven't lost my lb. yet. You know I have had family birthday parties a little week-end get away and in all honesty I didn't stick that well with my NFNS. It is Canada Day today but I am totally finished with my hiatus from the program so I don't care what comes my way today I will totally be NFNS. Also in my defense ,,,,,I do see myself not being as totally off as I used to be when I would deviate from the diet I was doing( you know go all hog wild because you failed and with the idea you are going to start again tomorrow kind of mentality)I am invited to a party tonight but it is a dinner party so I think I will be okay......it isn't hamburgers or that kind of thing. It is always a little discouraging when you don't stick with things 100% like you thought you would ....... sigh!!!! Losing a lb. or two would help so I am going to try to do the program well enough to have some success with on the scales next Monday.
What is everybodys NFNS plans for the 4th......plan better than I did!!!! |

When wheat or other grains are ground finely into flour they are digested much more rapidly and produce a greater change in your blood sugar. That causes an increase in insulin and you are hungry soon after. So no products that list flour of any kind are allowed. |

Whoops the above confession belongs to me. Tres that is a common mistake people make when they first start NFNS is that if the bread is 100% whole wheat that it is okay. This program is a little different in that respect,,,,,,no flour of any kind. Ezekial bread only has 70 calories per slice and no flour and it tastes good. I like the sesame one and the raisin bread one. Others on the board have mentioned that Trader Joe's has a good no flour no sugar bread. The squirrely brand bread has a no flour no sugar bread but I prefer the Ezekial myself. I think any of these breads are better toasted. Tres just substitute these breads with your menu on the 30th and you are fine....but what is leaded coke.....yikes that sounds really bad!?!!? |

Tres I noticed your post was dated June 30th where you gave your menu for the day (that was what I was referring to). In the menu you listed 100% whole wheat breads....change your bread to ezekial no flour no sugar bread and what you ate would have been okay. Hilda mentioned that she restricts herself even on the Ezekial bread and she is having good success. Corn chis are fine if they have no flour or sugar in them but overall they are high in calories and not that filling. The days I do best is when I make good NFNS choices....instead of just eat NFNS items like the chips and so forth. Check out Hilda's list of foods to buy and have on hand. She makes big batches of soups and so forth to have on hand for lunches. I suggest trying out brown rice and quinoa salads.....make up batches to have in the fridge. Do you have Dr. Gott's book?

Tres do a google search for quinoa (keenwah) salads.....I tried to attach a link and I guess you can't do that on this site. The Quinoa is nutritious and can be made into all kinds of things. My family actually prefers brown rice and I often substitute the rice in the recipes for quinoa salad. One I thought that was especially good was the black bean and corn quinoa salad (I used the one off of epicurious.com)......I made that but then I also did a take off on that idea and used brown rice, black eyed peas, pork and spinach.
Hilda you are so together with this program....good for you.

Well here I go.. I started today and surprisingly I feel great about it. I am a shift manager at Starbucks so it was really difficult for me to resist the temptation to have sugar!! All my favorite drinks have sugar in them! I just opted for iced coffee with NO sugar and some soy milk.. but as I was reading all these posts I saw that someone said cane sugar is bad.. so, I'll have to stop drinking the soy and just stick with skim. I am actually fasting white flour and white sugar for 40 days.. my beginning intentions..
but I think after this.. I will continue. I'm 24; 5'5 and weigh 194.. I would like to lose about 40lbs or so.. I am going to try to join in on the conversation daily! All of you guys are great! Today for lunch I had various fruits a tomato and a cucumber. very delightful and filling. for dinner i had brown rice, black beans and chicken--which was amazing! And for a little dessert later.. i will have some grapes. I would also suggest a fabulous meal which is.. brown rice, sliced tomato and avacado and add some salsa!! it is soo very fantastic!
I think we can do this.. we just need to stay out of our own way! Can't wait to hear more recipes and encouagring words! |

snack or breakfast idea.....2 slices of raisin ezekial bread toasted and spread with lowfat cream cheese topped with a good unsweetened applesauce and sprinkle with cinnamon and a cup of herbal tea.
Tiffany Ann....yes sugar likes to hide itself and disguise itself so it sounds like it is something else.....no matter what form cane sugar is in it is sugar.....shoot, eh!!!!! lots of products use several different forms of sugar so that they can spread it out on the ingredient list so that your first ingredient doesn't indicate sugar(ie, glucose, dextrose and so forth).....that is too obvious of a tip-off that the product is very high in sugar. You will see all kinds of names for sugar on products.......we are being scammed and deceived by these companies that know that making things sweet is a great way to sell their product.....hey sugar makes things yummy!!!! sugar also makes you hungry and craving more.........oh my word

Good call Tiffany Ann.....I googled....."ingredients in sugar free cool whip".....water, corn syrup, hydrogenated veg. oil (coconut and palm kernel oil). Hungry for cool whip anybody...... Sugar free and fat free things are often just such junk I really never buy cool whip sugar free or not.....it is a chemical pudding. Studies show that corn syrup has been one of the big things causing the obesity crises in North America. I try very hard to NOT buy products with corn syrup in them. When you start reading ingredient labels on food you find corn syrup everywhere. It is bad enough in Canada but I think even worse in the States. Last time I was in the States I was trying to find a yoghurt without corn syrup......I was shocked that I was having such a hard time finding one without the high fructose corn syrup. Also next time you are at the grocery store check out the amount of sugar in yoghurt.....like 15-24 gms. per 125 gram serving. Some of these kind of awareness are such reality shocks......you would never buy a cereal with that high of a sugar count per serving (in fact is there even one that high) and yet "We" (the royal WE) ......consume buckets and buckets of yoghurt thinking that we are doing ourselves a good thing. Check out the sugar in Activia.....and yet if you believed the commercials you would really thing you were doing a good thing for your body to be consuming 25 gms. of sugar in a 125 gm. serving. Marketing can be so deceptive. See Tiffany Ann they didn't deceive you......good label reading!!!!

Greg that is a great weight loss.....good for you! You know when brown rice is cooked right it is so much better than white......in fact it is hard to go back to white after some really good brown rice. Lots of things are transitional......and you are moderate and right in saying that eating small amounts of not so great stuff to keep going on the program is better than falling off the program. I did a search a while back for the best way to cook brown basmati rice......I got a recipe off the internet for a rice that was so delicious. It is on Recipezaar and called Lemony Brown Basmati Rice (it isn't a sweet rice but it does have a hint of lemon). I like to soak my brown rice (up to 8 hrs.,,,no longer) and then prior to cooking stir fry it dry just in the pan I am going to cook it in until it smells aromatic (3 or so minutes) and then continue on with the recipe. It makes a very fluffy nice rice. This is so yummy with a creamy black lentil dal over it. Hilda I once said that you don't have to soak lentils that isn't quite true as the black lentils do need to be soaked for 8 hours. That rice is also a nice rice to use in rice salad recipes. |

I haven't really used the guidelines for the menus in Dr. Gott's book yet....and I think that may be helpful because in all honesty looking at his menu plans they look much more sparse than my usual fare Another thing I did this week-end that I know doesn't work well for me is that I bought a bag of the Weight Watcher chocolates.......I believe 3 were 210 calories (maybe it was 180). I know myself with sweets (even no sugar ones) I don't eat one and then leave them alone. Really and I know this but hey that doesn't mean I always pay attention to it.......I could have a regular small chocolate bar for less calories than 3 pieces of sugar free chocolates (Cadbury thins are 100 calories)....so does that make any sense to eat twice that many calories albeit sugar free. I am not promoting the idea of just eating regular chocolate because that has always got me over my head with calories; it sets up cravings and I don't eat it reasonably......but calories count and so if I eat 200 calories in no sugar candy I don't think I am advantaged by doing so. Debbie is there something you are eating that may be keeping your calorie count too high??? I know I am and I think I need to actually sit down and read the book and follow it more closely.......and yes I am reluctant to do that because I want NFNS to be more magical and to allow me to eat more calories and still lose weight |

What made you buy that candy in the first place? Were you depressed? You knew it was a temptation and you made the bad decision to bring it into your house. This lifestyle is about making good decisions that will make us healthier. Did you read the Dr. Phil book? He says get real or stay real fat. You have to want to be healthy more than you want to cheat. |

Tiffany, I actually weigh myself every day. The goal is one pound for the week and if I'm not making the goal I get a lot more serious about my choices. That seems to work for me. For you ladies who are having a hard time losing weight, that must be very frustrating, just don't quit! Dr. Gott does talk about the plate method for portion control. Use a normal dinner plate and 1/4 of the plate should be; no sugar, no flour carbs, 1/4 lean protein and 1/2 non-stachy vegetables like carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, zuchini?, lettuce etc. This is the perfect plate, naturally all our meals will not be perfect but it is a good guide. If you search plate method (Denver plate method is a great site). |

Bronwyn, If you must have a sugar free candy (you know its not the best choice), a small amount of it could be used as your 1/4 plate carb. The protein and vegetables on your plate will help offset the candies effects and your meal will still be a reasonably healthy. |

I'm sure everyone had lots of tempting food in front of them over the holidays. Just take it one day at a time. One meal at a time. Planning and being prepared is the key. If you make plenty of the right foods available, its a lot easier to avoid the wrong ones. |

Greg you are right I so totally know the sugar free candy is dumb Sweets are my nemesis absolutely.....and I seldom buy the sugar free ones because I don't like the idea of sugar alternatives and again I have to avoid sugar as I don't do well with it. I mean reading the ingredients on the sugar free candies is not that appetizing but the idea of having chocolate overpowered me However, when you aren't losing weight and you are grocery shopping hungry and disenheartened....bad things can happen The division of the plate idea is the basis of Rick Gallop's low G.I diet and I think it would mostly work well with this program as it is no sugar however, he does use flour. I have all of this books and I should refer to some of his menu ideas. Listen I know all about the right things to do and what are good choices.............now if I can get my intellectual side working with my emotional sidewho knows maybe big things can happen In my and everyone else defense who is struggling to see a drop on the scales............the intellectual side works better with the emotional when the scales are registering that your choices are leading to a loss. |

Hey Greg.. that might be a good idea about weighing myself everyday.. i'll have to try it and see if it discourages me or not.. us women are so emotional!! greg - you see that you're not losing any weight and you get more serious for the week.. us ladies - are emotional.. we see that we didn't lose weight and we head for the chocolate!! haha so i'll have to see which works best for me. thanks for letting me know =) tomorrow will be a week.. and i have only really struggled one day.. but i didnt cave! it was really hard.. but in my weakness He is strong.. it seems so silly that i even struggled at all.. but it's crazy how addicted our bodies are to sugar! well i always love coming on here and hearing peoples updates! hope all is well! |

I was watching the CBS news tonight and they ran a story about keeping a food diary. They said that people who write down everything they eat lose twice as much weight.
Also on Oprah today ,Dr.Oz was talking about not bringing forbidden food into the house. |

Starting food diary today.....I do think it makes you more accountable and aware. The forbidden food is a little more difficult if there are other people in the house and in my case there are 5 other people in the house. I can stop buying things specifically for me though that are triggers for me to overeat. |

Tiffay Ann - The Ezeckial Bread is in the organic section at Publix in the freezer. It is really good. I now have my husband on it which is a good thing because he is diabetic. I love this way of eating. It is not too hard.....you just have to read and watch portion control. That is the hard part for me. |

I found some veg. mac. in the organic section at Publix (our local supermarket) and it didn't say flour but it said Semolina. The def. of it is: Semolina is the inner, granular, starchy endosperm of wheat (not yet ground into flour). Is this allowed does anybody know. It is really good. It is made from veg. like beets, sweet pot., peppers etc..... |

Hey Tres i found the bread, thanks! now i also read in one of these little blogs that we should only have one piece every other day.. I was just curious why that was? I looked at the fat and calories and i dont think they are that high.. so i just didnt understand that one piece every other day? I didn't weigh in yesterday.. I think I am afraid to get on the scale.. Thats not why i am doing this or what this is about anyways.. but of course I am curious.. |

The one piece of bread every other day was my idea only. If you aren't losing at least a pound a week, I would limit the Ezekiel bread. I would rather make a wrap out of lettuce instead of a sandwich with bread and use my calories on something else. |

Just regular iceberg. I separate the best outside leaves and wash them for wraps, and then use the inside for salads or sandwiches made with bread. |

the red leaf lettuce taste better. I do not like the iceberg. Tiffany Ann I have two slices a day of the bread for lunch. I have been losing a lb a week but I am finding that I am losing inches faster than the lbs. Has anybody done body measurements before they started? did anyone find out anything about Semolina? I'm curious. I ate it and didn't gain but I only had the recommened 3/4 cup.

Hey a great salad for lunch or dinner is the 7 layer salad. It has lettuce, celery, onion, peas, cheese, mayo and sugar. I sub the mayo for fat free or one with a low sugar content and subsitute sugar with splenda. It is really good. |

I seem to remember when I was on Weight Watchers years ago that men could have more bread than women, and still lose.
I read an article yesterday about preventing Alzheimers. It said tumeric in mustard and curry was found to help fight memory loss. |

Hang in there Tiffany Ann....you can do it. Like the food diary says.....you have to write it down...do you really want to see that you ate sweets on your food diary? When you are craving something.....go brush your teeth....that is suppossed to curve your cravings or drink water.... |

Greg thanks for asking I am feeling a little defeated today. If I could go back a few years with the knowledge I now have.....one of how hard it is to take weight off and two how miserable it is emotionally and physically to be overweight(it has had a real negative impact on my life) I would never have allowed myself to gain all of this weight. However all that being said I am amazed with all of you on this board for being so positive and sticking with this and having such great success. Last night I pulled out MY NFNS book by Dr. Gott....he says that you have to pull yourself through plateaus because you will start to lose again. I go a couple of weeks without losing and then I fall back into old habits(I will never have success with doing that). I returned to the old habit of researching other diets and plans for losing weight......the frantic search for something new because I feel discouraged.
Tres (or was it Tiffany Ann) you wanted to know about semolina.....I am not sure if it is flour or not but there is semolina flour and most pastas and the like are made from semolina (and I noted that it doesn't specify that it is flour but I would think it would have to be to make pasta). This is what it says on a package I have in my cupboard....(this is macaroni)....100% certified whole wheat durum semolina. I would think it is semolina flour. All in all maybe it is just to picky of a point and if you eat it and feel satisfied and not craving or over eating I would think it is not a huge deal. I just know that making too many allowances or changes leads me into a collapse of the program.
I am inspired and encouraged by your weight losses.....congratulations!!!! Truthfully I don't want to do another program because I, like Greg, have had a hard time sticking with other programs because I get so hungry and tired of the program.....this is doable and I need to do it. |

Bronwyn, Everyone talks about losing 1 pound per week. How about losing 1/2 pound per week. Honestly, I would be happy eating healthier and losing 1/4 pound per week, that would still be 12 pounds per year. After all, I did not gain 12 pounds per year, if I did I would weigh 636 pounds. Do you have a digital scale that measures weight to at least 1/2 pound? Try 1/2 pound per week as a goal or even 1/2 pound every two weeks. As long as you are seeing some progress!! |

Greg it is amazing to be able to feel encouraged by people that you could pass on the street and have no idea who they are. The internet is amazing. I am concerned about the inappropriate and destructive things that can be found on the internet but, how cool and wonderful is it that the same internet can bring together people from all corners of the world in pursuit of a common goal. I look fore ward to hearing about each of your success' and I do expect, plan; and, I am determined to be able to share my own success here soon. I had success doing this once I can do it again. Hi Bronwyn, Thanks for thinking of me. Yes, I'm still hanging in there but without much luck. I have such a SWEET TOOTH that I'm still eating too much sugar free sweets (candy, pudding, ice cream). I'm really trying to eat fruit instead. Some days it works well, others it doesn't and I end up eating something sweet. I'm plugging along though and hoping for at least a small weight loss soon. |

Janie....
When you talk about how much you like sweets you sound like me. The only thing is most people like sweets(there are a few who don't). I have lots of friends who also like sweets but sweets don't control their lives......they have a little cake, a little chocolate, a little ice cream and then that is it. I have a little of this kind of stuff and it is calling my name until it is gone. I think this is different than liking sweets....because sometime I have eaten enough sweets that I am feeling sick but I still think about and crave more sweets. That sounds more like an addiction than a sweet tooth doesn't it. Do you know what I mean and do you have this experience at all? |

Bronwyn ... oh yes, I know exactly what you're talking about. That is me also. I LOVE sweets, especially candy. And just like you, I cannot just have one piece like some people I know. I work with a woman who has a candy dish full of chocolate. She may have one piece every now and then, but that's it. I told her if I had that dish on my desk, all the chocolate would be gone that day!! At least we recognize our weakness and are trying to fight it. Good luck!! |

Hi all,
I just started the no flour, no sugar way of eating on Monday (7/14/08). I have already lost 5 lbs, tho I know that is mostly fluid. I'll take it any way I can get it!
I love ice cream and chocolate. I satisfy these cravings with a Starbucks splenda-sweetened coffee frappuccino Lite and by making chocolate milk using mixed cocoa and splenda in my milk. I am discovering a lot of good substitutions. Duke's mayo has no sugar, I know some of you mentioned Ranch dressing mix, and Triscuits. These also help me a lot!
I was fairly successful with Weight Watchers last year, but got tired of counting points. My hubby needs to lose too, and he will NOT do anything complicated. Telling him NO FLOUR and NO SUGAR makes it very simple for him and he is doing well, too.
Any good suggestions for a newbie?? |

From Ladies Home Journal April issue 2008-If you fall offtrack-count it as a mere slip and move on.Tell yourself: This is a one-time thing. The article suggests portioning 4oz. of plain turkey in individual bags to eat for a sundown snack. Drink diet soda only after you have consumed your 64 oz. of water for the day. After that much water you may find you are no longer interested. Never let the sun set with a food gift still in your possession. Deliver it to someone else before the end of the day.For evenings when you don't feel like cooking, stock up on healthy frozen dinners.Portioned foods also demonstrate what a 300 or 350 calorie meal looks like. Drink 20 oz of water and eat 2 Triscuits before you go to a party or out to dinner. Good for you Tiffany Ann. Can you figure out anything you did differently as far as whazt you ate? Maybe you got more exercise. I find that cleaning my house (or my daughter's is more fun for some reason)makes me get moving and get some exercise. Has anyone read the articles on clutter making you fat? |
