I found a no sugar added fruit snack like the little individual applesauces. These are by Musselman's and they are called Healthy Picks in Blueberry Pomegranate. I really like them. 70 calories each. |

Morning all. 145.8 this morning.
Bronwyn, you poor thing! I would be very uncomfortable staying up all night. Do you have to be quiet? What do you do all night long? I hope that sore throat clears up quick.
My daughter goes to school in Memphis. It's about a 50 min drive. She hasn't been home since she started this semester. She is at school without a car so she has to wait for a ride to get here. She really doesn't want to be here unless she has to. We made her leave her cellphone, but then we found out she took her "card" out of it and put it in another one. She did it behind our backs. So, she's a stinker, too smart for us. We will be canceling her service soon.
Debbie...good to hear from you. How is your weather? Are you able to get outside? The sun is shinning here this morning...so far so good.
I've noticed everyone is eating Triscuits. I buy the regular, I thought the others ones were off limits. Check your labels.
Ok, the ground is soggy here still. I am going to run errands this morning and then go upstairs with my cleaning bucket. I hit the downstairs hard yesterday and I must say it looks great. I am so much happier in a clean house. Aren't we all!
Everyone...great NFNS day.

All the nutritionists and doctors seem to agree we should all be eating an apple every day for the antioxidants. It fills you up, too. |

Connie: The ingredients in the reduced fat Triscuits I have, are as follows: whole wheat, soybean and/or palm oil, salt. Great job on the cleaning. I am going to be working on my house the next couple of days. I have a group of 9th grade girls from church using our house for their sleep over and then on Sunday a group of college-age kids are coming over for a small group Bible study. My house will be spic and span for the next 5 weeks because of the Sunday meetings. It so needs to be really cleaned anyway. I bought some Fritos yesterday, because unlike so many other chips they only have 3 ingredients. Whole corn, corn oil and salt. Since I am looking at so many labels now, I am just amazed at all the junk that is put into our food. I found a baked cheese puff at Fresh and Easy and it had four ingredients I think. I looked at a discount brand at WM and the list was so long it took up almost half of the bag on the right side. I am really wanting bacon, but everyone I look at has sugar in it. I don't have the brand at WM that someone told me about. Should I just get the one with the sugar listed the furthest down on the list? Help!!! This is what I would really like to eat on Valentine's Day for breakfast. I want this more than candy. NFNS all girls. We can do it.

Hello ladies! I have been lurking for a while, reading all of your posts and figured it was time to introduce myself. I am from 35 years old, from Illinois, married with 3 beautiful children (ages 9,5,4) and 2 teenage stepdaughters that don't live with me. I embarked on this new lifestyle change in January. My husband, father, daughter (the 9 year old) are all doing it to lose weight and to improve health. So far so good, cooking like a mad woman though.
My husband and I saw Fireproof at our church and are doing a 6 week small group study on it. It is great, except for the Pot Luck dinner we have before meeting each week. So much of the food is off limits, but we do ok.
K10, I found some low sodium bacon at Meijer that has no sugar. If you don't have a Meijer near you, just keep checking every brand at every store. |

Good Morning Ladies- sounds like everyone has some excellent accomplishments. I am so proud of everyone. Welcome Kim, post at anytime, we love to chat!
As for me, I am getting back on track. Yesterday the only bad thing I had was a whole wheat english muffin. I was starving and honestly nothing else to eat without dragging out every pot and pan. Did someone say there is a wheat pasta with no flour out there? I went to trader joes yesterday to pick up one thing and did see the Ezekial bread. Once pay day rolls around I am going to pick some of that up and the cinnamon one too.. I am excited for it. K!0 I think you said there was some cereal there at TJ's that I can have also?
I am grateful for my family, friends, and my new lady friends on line! And I am thankful California is getting some MUCH needed rain and is supposed to continue for the next week!
Have a wonderful NSNF day ladies. |

Welcome Kim, I just started this like you about a week ago. This is a great group to keep you motivated. I too saw Fireproof. It was so good we invited our parents over to watch it the next weekend. Boy if there were more fathers like that!
K10 I remember those days with youth groups coming to the house. My daughter is 22 now and lives six hours away but those are great memories.
I survived the dentist although the cleaning seemed more painful this time. She told me to get a waterpick and some floss almost like ribbon instead of the string. She said it looked like I was just flossing to rough. She did say not to tell the dentist that she suggested a waterpick. She said he was against them. I still hope with this diet I will see some improvement in my gums. I have a ugly silver temporary but it is in the back of my mouth. I am suppose to get the permanent in a couple of weeks.
I ate baked chicken, celery, grapes and a few pecans for lunch. I think I am going to have meatloaf and some asparagus steamed for tonight. My diet downfall is mayonaise. I could eat it on everything!
Well, got to get some house cleaning done. Everyone have a great day. Bronwyn hope you can get some sleep and start feeling better. Sounds like everyone is doing good on the NFNS. |

Welcome Kim!!! We don't have a Meijer, but I will keep looking. Thanks so much.
Megan: The cereal is called Uncle Sam. It is toasted whole-wheat flakes and flaxseed. I added some cinnamon and Splenda and liked the taste much better. I have also put with yogurt and fruit, like a granola topping. I did get it at Trader Joe's. Some ladies have seen it at WalMart I think, but I haven't looked there yet. They have different things at different WalMarts throughout the US. It is toasted whole-wheat flakes and flaxseed.
I check this way too much during the day. Oh well, if it keeps me motivated. I am making a vegetable style chili with barley for lunch. It smells good.
Good day all.

Welcome Kim.......you will do well on NFNS. How much weight do you want to lose?
Guess what guys it is starting to happen for me........using my high point weight in the holidays I have now lost 8.5 lbs. Even using my weight before the holidays I have still lost 3.5.........so anyway you look at it I am losing and loving it!!!!!
I feel more dedicated all the time to this program because it allows me to eat quite normally, not feel deprived and eating good, wholesome food. This week I have been very faithful to NFNS and the results are showing on the scale. I have also made good choices in food. It has taken me a long time to make this a program that I stay on.......I really am starting to feel like you Connie....I want to eat this way (hey Connie I also want to weigh the same as you |

The weird thing about going back to check though was that inadvertently I ended up on another blog....the page looked exacty like this one but I didn't recognize one name on the posts. It was so strange,,,,,,,and my name showed up at the bottom just like it does on this one. It was one of those moments of feeling disoriented or something I thought I had lost all of you It was the very same as this blog but the diet was the fat smash diet. |

Go Bronwyn...go Bronwyn!!!! I knew it could happen for you. Once we make the switch, it takes care of itself. Now that you've crossed that bridge, time to ready for the "stress" triggers. Get rid of the chocolate, etc. I'll bet in time you'll notice your appetite shrinking. F&S are not an option. You are a mighty warrior! Failure is not an option. OK, so maybe I've been sitting in on a few too many military movies. That's my mens favorite so that's what we watch.
Angie, yeah! The dentist visit is over. I'm assuming you had no cavities. That is reason to celebrate. I've got a cleaning coming up next week. I really want only good news.
I wish I could find all the Ezekial products you all can. I've been buying my nfns pasta on line. I'll look for some Ezekial stuff on line too. I, for one, would rather go without mayo than eat low fat. I would use the minimal, but I just can't eat the other. I looked up a homemade mayo recipe on line. It sounded good and fresh. It was also NFNS.
Welcome Kim. Jump right in! Get ready to be completely supported and advised.
I went to the store today and ended up on the pet food aisle. I ended up with a lump in my throat. I really miss being happier. I know...it takes time. I just don't want to go through it anymore. Ok, so I ran errands and got rid of a bunch of piles of stuff. It seemed like I dropped stuff off all over town. Now I could care less about the upstairs. I think I'll save it for next week...something to look forward to!
I'm back on the cheese. OMG...I love it so! I think I'm making up for lost time. At least it's NFNS. And I bought some bananas.
Tonight grilled chicken, rice, peas and cottage cheese. |

So around this time last year, I was around 135-140 pounds. This has been a very trying year, financially. I know some of you have been having similar problems. Anyway, depression got the better of me and the I don't care attitude brought me to 176.5 pounds. Before I even weighed in, I decided it was time to get control over something, anything. Since I can't control the economy, I decided I could at least get control over my health. I have lost about 6 pounds so far, and would like to get to about 125. I am 5'4" and have had trouble ever getting below 130, so I am setting the bar high. I just started working out again yesterday, and I did a class called Total Body Conditioning. We did ALOT of lunges and I am so sore, and hating my stairs. But I went again today and walked, rode the bike, and did some weights. It felt good while I was doing it, but I wince every time I have to go up the stairs. I am going to try to do 21 days straight of exercise, but I fear tomorrow already. To add insult to injury, I was getting off one of the machines when my pant leg got caught and down I went. How embarrassing!!! |

Good evening Ladies. I've been so busy the last few days. We went to pick up our new camper yesterday. I love it. We traded in the smaller one. This one is so much better for our family. I've been having fun putting the stuff in. Besides that I took 8 yr old to the Doc for a red ear. She'll be fine. We've all still got the cold.
We had some nice weather but it soon turned cold and windy. Winter is back but at least all the snow melted. I can't believe the amount of garbage laying around. I wish everyone would go out and clean up. We just had so much snow for so long it was all covered up. Now here it is in all its yuckiness. I've been pretty good about NFNS. Bronwyn, AWESOME for your weight loss. I think you will be losing now like you did last year at this time. I see my weight loss picking up soon too. Sorry for your sad news Hilda. K10......there is really a wide range of Ezekial products out there. I find that there isn't one store that carries them all. At different stores I go to I will find yet another Ezekial product. I think the cereal is okay but I don't like to have it constantly......the only flavours I have seen are almond and blueberry possibly a third one but I can't remember at the moment. I get the almond one. I have found bread in a few varities, English muffins, hamburger buns and wraps. In California and I believe that is where you are from, there is also another line of sprouted grains products also sold in the freezer aisle. My mind just went blank on the exact name it is like Alvredo (not right)Street Bakery. They have a variety of prooducts as well such as bagels. I used to belong to an organic food buying co-op and we bought that line in our orders. |

I checked back today and have found many new people on this site. Connie, I am so sorry about your cat. Bronwyn: Thanks for the name of the other bread. I will check it out. I have found that the stores don't carry the same products either. I had to buy the hamburger and hot dog buns at the health food store. The worst part about that is they are rock hard. I keep all my Ezekiel products in the freezer, but these are so much harder to get apart. The bread is kept in the bread section at one store I go to and at others it is kept in the fridge.

Good morning ladies- yes the plane crash, how awful. I think the state of New York has had enough plane crashes already! It's awful! Thank you to everyone for your well wishes. And I hope things pick up for all of us in the "employment" area. This morning I woke up to snow covered hills-absolutely breath taking. We are expecting another 5 days of rain and snow, but no snow will touch my grass. However we would only need to travel about 15-20 minutes towards Santa Cruz to hit snow. It is very exciting for San Jose. I think I mentioned before how much we need the rain here. We are only at about 50% of normal for rainfall. Maybe you all from back east can ship some out here for us! :) Pretty soon we will be seeing bottled water from Missouri, lol!
Debbie_ Congrats on the camper! I love to camp. Growing up my dad owned his own camping equipment store. He made most products himself and as kids we would work out in his shop during the summer. I would have to say we were like the Griswalds and we had the paneled station wagon with all the luggage on top!~
Debster- welcome back! Glad to hear from another friend out there. However I have now pronounced all of you my sisters. We have something special on this board, don't we!!!
Hilda- I am so sorry for your loss. This has been such a bad week for everyone. My heart is with you and my prayers as well. 58 is way to young! When I read that I sat up straight and told myself to get it together cause that could be me!

Connie, I may actually take a break from the exercise today and stretch. I am so sore and can relate to the sitting on the toilet thing....
For everyone going through troubling times, have you read or watched "The Secret"? Or another movie that someone just recommended to me, "Facing the Giants". I suggest watching one or both to give yourselves a positive boost.

I am an official mother of 2 teenage daughters. God help me. Just kidding.
I went to my friends house today and did the walking DVD. We actually finished the whole 2 miles. Yeah us.
Bronwyn: I went to a different health food store today and saw the brand you suggested. They had a pizza crust and I noticed it had flour. I was able to get Ezekiel English muffins though. I think the Ezekiel pitas had flour in them??? I didn't need bread yet.
It would be so nice to be able to go to one store for the products. They had Ezekiel cereals too, but I just can't pay over $5-$6 for such a small box of cereal. The Uncle Sam one is much cheaper.
I found some corn flakes at this same store that are sweetened with fruit juice concentrate. They were expensive. I was thinking of making the corn flakes into crumbs and use it to fry chicken tenders, or I may bake them.
My husband and I are going "camping" in the driveway tomorrow night while the 9th grade girls are in my house having a "sleep over". Our dog will think it is great.
I better get to cleaning the house before the company gets here.
Great day everyone.

Hello. I run this site.
I noticed this page was getting tons of comments and it was starting to load fairly slowly because of it. So, I added some pagination controls.
I tried to be clever so that things will just work for people checking latest comments. The last page or two of new comments should be shown when you load this page. You can use the "Comments (2,335) Pages: prev ( 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 [8] )" line to go back to older comment pages if you'd like. I made the pages fairly large too (300 comments). So, it most cases, there's no need to go back or use the paging links at all.
Anyway, let me know if you have any trouble. |

Hi Debster, Happy to see you! I'm not running any marathons myself but the race is still on! Watch out. :)
Kim, I love Orange Roughy. You just can't go wrong with that fish accept the price. $$$ Squeeze a lemon over the fish. Spread creamy Italian dressing over the fish. Shred cheddar cheese over the dressing. Bake until fish is flaky about 20 minutes at 350. Yum Yum Yum
The Ezek Cereal that I got had raisins in it. It's very hard so if your teeth arent strong I wouldn't bother with it. I did microwave it and it was softer that way. I like it both ways. It stays with you for a long time.I find the Ezek Cereal at my super market. Most grocery stores will order new products if you ask them.

Oh Megan....I am so happy for you! Tonight I hope you sleep like a rock. And I'm sure your weekend will be extra nice too.
K10...I once had our youth group, females only, over for a sleep over. Wow! They wore me out. We did a sewing project. We each made an apron and monogrammed their names in one of the straps. I had two machines running all night. Most of them completed their projects, but some thought I would do it for them. It was fun. About 10:00, all the boys from the youth group showed up. Be prepared for no sleep.

I keep remembering other things that happened the night of the sleepover. Keep in mind these were 10-12th grade girls. Ok, we watched some tv with the boys, then they left, or I should say pretended to leave. I went back to sewing. The girls all started slipping away and putting on black clothing. Shirts, pants, etc. Then they started filling up water balloons. The next thing I know, there is a full fledged water balloon fight outside. The girls were up in the trees and in the bushes and the guys were driving by in their cars and everyone was hurling balloons. Only they used something besides water in the balloons. I can't remember what. Or maybe they mixed it with the water. They had a blast. But what a mess. My husband and son had left for the night, not wanting to be in a house full of girls. I was busy. Anyway, it was obvious that they had planned this ahead of time. |

I have to say I have never had this but it looked so pretty the way they had it fixed so that is what I am cooking for our Valentine meal with some steamed asparagus. I hope I did not make a mistake. I have noticed I have been overeating the triscuits. I think they are affecting my weight loss. I wonder if I do not have a wheat allergy. I might try to lay off of wheat for awhile and see if it makes any difference. I love the rice crackers so I could use them instead. We are riding bikes tomorrow so everyone have a Happy Valentine's Day! |

Connie you got married on valentines day.......how romantic, eh!
Wow I can't believe how fast this page loaded. I have been having so much trouble with this site......love the changes.
I haven't been feeling well (sore throat, tired and blah) ......even bailed on the wedding dinner taste testing.......I hope I am not sorry with the choices that they make for the dinner. There were some more gourmet things on the menu that sounded good......I am sure they (the others that attended the testing) will stick with more boring things without my influence and persuasion.
Sticking with NFNS...........been 100% this week,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Happy Valentines to my NFNS buddies,,,,,,,,don't let tomorrow turn into a chocolate fest........... |

And I thought we were being unique! But actually so many people got married that day, we had a time getting a room for the night. Jerry had accepted a job in Wyoming, so we had to leave immediately. We had to decide on a wedding date of Fri the 13th or Sat the 14th. Call me superstitious, but I insisted on the 14th. To make matters even more "weird", my mom remarried on the exact same day I married. So my father was the only one in my family to attend. I always thought he was extremely thankful that I gave him something to do that day. He never really got over my mom. Then 14 years later, he married on Feb 14th. Well, what can I say about that? To look at us, we seem so normal!!!!!!
I have not stayed NFNS all week. Almost though. Sunday I'll stock up on groceries. Good for everyone that has stayed true. |

Hi everyone. I love reading all the comments. I'm reading The Kite Runner, but I enjoy reading this board more than The Kite Runner. Kathleen, would you explain how you make the baked chicken in spaghetti sauce. I guess I need cooking ideas spelled out for me. Also can anyone give me ideas on a hot grain to serve at night besides brown rice. I made some coconut brown rice tonight- boy, that's a keeper. This board makes eating NFNS easy. About 3 days ago, when we got back from Florida, I realized I had to cut down on my fruit consumption and servings of grains during the day. I think it's helping. By the way, I live in Massachusetts. Married, 58, 2 grown-up sons. |

Connie: Happy Anniversary!!!! Fortunately for me, I am staying in our travel trailer in the driveway. The girls' leaders are staying in the house. They just needed a bigger living space to stay in. Needless to say, I am going to have to get ready for church in the trailer. I hope they don't break anything. We have the Wii system and Rock Band, so I think the girls will have fun. I am sure they will be tired for church on Sunday. I hope they don't raid my fridge and freezer. They will be pretty disappointed I am sure. I haven't been 100% this week either. I am going to be really strict this coming week. Hopefully the fact that I am now exercising will help make up for this week.
Have any of you eaten the carb-free/sugar-free chocolate? It makes for a decent substitute.

I made some truffles tonight that had agave syrup in them, I believe that Dr. Gott says we can use that for sweetener. That is the first time I have used it. The truffles were quite good and they didn't seem to make me feel like I couldn't stop eating them like sugar stuff does. I will check the link for the truffles and post it. I like these better than the sugar free products you can buy because these are quite healthy and low on the gylcemic index.
Kaston I loved "The Kite Runner" and "The 1000 Splendid Suns".......same authour. I just finished "Book Thief" it was really good as well.

Morning all. 148 this morning. Well, I have been really bad with my eating. Worse than I have been since I started NFNS. I've spent some time this morning trying to figure out why. My pantry isn't super stocked, but I've had healthy options all week. I don't think I've been suffering with cravings, well, a couple of times in the middle of the night that I gave in to. I've just been uninvolved. It is a bummer to realize that for me I need to have a happy heart to stay on course. My general sadness is getting so much better, but it threw me off this week big time! I am really going to try and get my enthusiasm back up and menu plan for more than a few days at a time. That was another rut I fell into.
Bronwyn...what would we do without reading all the exotic foods you prepare?
My husband called form FL last night. He found out he is not going to be in sales and instead will be reassigned to modernization. He worked in that department before. He's ok with it. After he hung up I began worrying if his job was going to eventually disappear. I don't think that's the case. His degree in electrical engineering and masters in systems analysis has always kept him in the door. My advice to anyone that can manage it is to get in school immediately. With so few jobs available, now is the time to do it. For years we lived off my housecleaning, student loans and he kept a part time job, very part time, and got by. It took some time to pay off the student loans, but it is so doable. We were poor, but committed and strong and happy.
Have a great NFNS day. Later. |

1 cup brown basmati......(rinse well) 1 1/2 cups chicken broth 1/2 cup coconut milk 1/4 water 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. red chilli pepper flakes 2Tablespoons Lemon juice a handful of chopped cilantro 1/2 salt
I bring to a boil.......turn down to a simmer and cover for 30 minutes......check to make sure it isn't sticking.....if needs be add a little more water and continue to cook 10- 15 more minutes until tender and yummy. |

Ok gang, here is another reason to stay NFNS. Going off it is painful. Yesterday, and last night, I ate forbidden foods and I am really hurting now. Gas and bloating beyond the beyonds. It's just like the day after Thanksgiving, only I think a little worse. Yesterday I did not have any cheese, so this truly is from F&S. Wow! It's staring to ease up now, but for most of the day I have been hurting from my hips to my boobs. It's crazy. I haven't had one bite of food today and I doubt that will change. Other than that, everything here is fine.
Wishing all of you NFNS physical comfort. |

The flank steak was so so to me. My husband loved it. I served scollaped potatoes and asparagus with it so I ate about half the meat and some asparagus. Two hours later I was starving so I ate a bag of popcorn. I feel very munchie. I told everyone how the triscuits made me feel bloated well I got up with an upset stomach this morning. I think I will lay off of wheat. I hope the sprouted grains won't affect me the same way. Everyone just has to figure out what works for them. I had been very pleased with not having any bloating and after pigging out on the triscuits it all came back. I didn't eat any today and my stomach has already gone back down.
Well, enough of that. I hope everyone had a great day. Tomorrow is Daytona 500. It's suppose to be cloudy so a good day to lay on the couch and watch the race. |

That was me earlier with the huge stomach ache. It's getting better.
Angie, try some rice cakes. The plain ones. You can top them with so many things, I prefer light Laughing Cow. They satisfy my need to munch/eat and do not do a lot of damage. And rice has yet to make me bloated. I tried a flank steak recipe before, I did not care for the flank steak. The rest of the recipe was good so I'll do it again with a different cut of meat. |

Hi everyone-
I've been busy with classes. Hope everyone is back on NFNS.
Bill-thanks for running this website it is a great forum to bounce ideas and recipes from NFNS members.
What do you think of the mother with the octplets?. Just carrying triplets was so much strain on my lower back. I had to have bed rest and had a C-section. She may have to have a tummy tuck. I still have my "jelly belly" from the triplets. I choose not to have plastic surgery. I can't afford it and would rather save the money from my triplets college fund.
I started pilates exercise once a week at the local community center. Then I practice my pilates mat classes at home. So my new exercise is walking 3 times per week (at the indoor mall in Alaska) or ballroom dancing. and pilates 2 times a week and riding my indoor bike at home for 30 minutes. I avoid gyms too expensive and a waste of money.
The best exercise is walking. It does not cost you anything and you just need a good pair of walking shoes. If you can't walk due to the weather ( I live in Alasa) just start doing house chores to burn calories.
Yesterday, we had a babyshower at work. I brought my NFNS salad and banana bread (recipes are in the cookbook). Everyone loved the banana bread.
Living on NFNS keeps me healthy and my family healthy. I believe white sugar, soda, junk food, flour is crap for your body. If you eat junk food your body pays the price.
So hang on and start a healthy lifestyle for yourself.

Feeling much better today.
Hi Triplet Mom.
I never could eat anything yesterday. I began having heartburn even though I hadn't ate. Time for drastic measures. I took something and was up all night long with it. I weighed in at 143.8 this morning. That is only temporary I know, but fun to see. I still have no appetite. I'm going to the mall today and eating at Ruby Tuesdays. Salad bar for me. I'm afraid to try anything else and accidentally ingest flour.
Great NFNS day to all. |

Connie thanks about the rice cakes idea. I am a munchie person. I have been munching on popcorn because I am out of rice crackers. Suppose to get tax refund this week so I am going to use part of it to stock up on good NSNF products. Yes, I will not be buying the flank steak anymore. The first bite almost turned my stomach. I am going to use the leftovers in wraps tonight with some brown rice and low fat sour cream.
Triplet Mom so glad to hear from you. You keep me inspired with your ideas and it's a proven lifestyle with you. Very incouraging for the rest of us. I have noticed my appetite is not what it use to be but I do like to munch. I try to keep apples on hand with NS peanut butter.
Kathleen way to go. Can't wait for your weigh in but the way your clothes fit is a better judge of your weight lose. Keep up the good work.
K10 I hope you got a good nights sleep and the house will be in good order. I know they appreciate you loaning them your home.

You guys are the best. If you had a setback-it is ok. We are human and make mistakes. I did during my first year NFNS. Today is our family get together. For breakfas oatmeal, blueberries, soymilk and flaxseed, I also gave the kids scrambled eggs with cheese and a little chicken.
Will run errands today and clean the house. Too cold to exercise. Just took the dog for a quick walk and returned. My kids and hubby are spending the day at Barners and Noble and later go to the local ceramics class for a one day course on pottery.

Wow Connie you had quite the reaction to eating some flour and sugar. I wonder if you had the flu or if you had some bad food (I don't mean flour and sugar bad food)!
I didn't do 100% yesterday. I had tried out two new recipes (adapted them to be NFNS) and they just weren't that good and unfortunately I have lots of left overs. I found the rest of the day I just felt unsatisfied because I hadn't enjoyed anything I ate all day. I made some pop corn last night and I still didn't feel like that quite did and then some people showed up with a plate of brownies,,,,,,,geesh!!!! I didn't eat much but the point is I did eat them I so I wasn't 100%.
My weight is bouncing up a lb. down a lb. but not really going anywhere.....I need that weight to move that it what makes me feel motivated. Kathleen pants getting baggy.....now that is so motivating, good for you!!!!
Did anyone else hear that report on the news lately about Tilapia. I notice a lot of you talk about having it. The report said that it is such a fatty fish that it wouldn't be any better than having a double burger with cheese. That seems strange to me but that is what the report said......anyone else hear that? My husband was thrilled because he doesn't like fish and he loves cheeseburgers
My friend is going to some health promoting classes and she said that they have found woman over 50 can't lose weight without exercising. I think I may have to make my self get on the ball with doing some exercise. I have a recumbant bike and I need to use it. I also have the leslie Samsone walking DVD's but over time that bothers my knee. What I really need to do is aquasize ,,,,,,it is just so much effort to get to the pool, get into the pool, get out of the pool and have to shower and get dressed again and then come home.

Angie, when you feel like munching would you like eating raisins and peanuts? That's one of my favorite snacks. I have a 1/8 cup measure for the peanuts, and the raisins-well, I eyeball it. I have to eat the peanuts one at a time to make them last. That snack with 1/2 an apple and a cup or 2 of herbal tea (the real stuff from an herbal apothecary), and I'm good for a while-which is a real accomplishment. I read in the Sunday paper the guidelines for the Biggest Loser- it's no white flour, no white sugar, and no butter (plus counting calories and exercising). Bronwyn-are you near any senior centers? I know it sounds insulting( the senior part) but I just started going to mine for exercise. There are people there younger than I am and I'm 58. It's about 1 mile from my house and the exercise class is at 9:00 AM so it works for me. Yeh, the exercise part is a pain-I agree totally about the swimming. I use to love swimming ( a little racing) but the changing clothes is too much of a pain. I'm playing hooky from my health club this winter because of having to change clothes being a pain in the winter. It's rigorous so I have to wear shorts for the class or I'm too hot. Anyway I met a girl who's 54 at the senior center who's exercising there. Plus she walks her dog 30 minutes a day EVERY day. She told me about losing 50 lbs. doing NFNS. She's now a 6 or 8. I'm about a 12 or 14- half of my weight's in my stomach I think. |

Bronwyn, I'm sure it was flour that did it. It was a repeat of Thanksgiving. And it was more than just a bit of flour. It was big flour. I remember reading a while ago that tilapia had as much fat as regular bacon. I bought it once and my husband said he wouldn't eat it so I threw it away. I just couldn't work it in.
We went to a steak house for dinner. I had a ribeye, baked potato and salad. It was NFNS and really good. Guess my appetite is back.

Kaston I have to admit that some one suggesting I go to a senior centre did make me wince I guess it is a reality that I can't begin to get my head around.....54 at a senior centre......yikes!!!! I do have to make my self start into some exercise.....when I say make myself that is exactly what I mean. I find it hard to get going on an exercise program and I find it way too easy to quit.
I am making pork tenderloin marinated in a cajun rub with a cornbread stuffing on the side, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and fruity coleslaw. i will let you know about the cornbread stuffing......making it NFNS. For the others, there will be 7 of us, I am making a strawberry merigune shorcake. |

Kashton I love raisens but had laid off of them because of the problems I was having with my gums but since I got my teeth cleaned this week I haven't had anymore gum problems. I will get some when I go to the store. I try to write down everyone's ideas and keep me a list. Sometimes you just forget good food ideas.
Bronwyn pork tenderloin is one of our favorite meals. I usually cut up my onions and potatoes and cook them in the same pan. I have noticed that I have to exercise to lose weight. I usually break it up into 10 minutes at a time then it don't seem so bad. I do at least 30 minutes a day for five days a week and then one day out of the weekend we go for our bike ride and then I give myself one day off.
Connie thanks for the website. I do believe I have a wheat allergy. The sprouted bread don't seem to bother me but the trisquits do. My cereal is gluten free and I have no problem with it. I want to find a good flour free pizza crust.
We had a wonderful cheeseburger for dinner with mozzerella cheese that I got at the health food store. It was yummy. Snack will be apple and SF peanut butter. The race is about half over and they just had a major wipe out. Everyone have a good nights sleep. |

Good Morning- I stayed NSNF yesterday! I am so happy. I also started drinking some blueberry green tea that someone suggested. Delicious- and I am not a tea drinker but it seems to help flush out some other fluids. Has anyone had any experience with Acai Berry? I ordered some to help "suppress the appetite" but I don't think it's working one bit! :(
San Jose received over 2 inches of rain in the last day alone. It hasn't stopped raining for 3 days, and boy do we need it. We still are expecting another 2 full days of rain and then a small break. Thanks Alaska for the storm, we need it!

Stree is an amazing thing. Everyone experiences it but everyone handles it differently. From over eating to not eating at all. I am the usualy the over eater or snacker when I'm stressed. Accept for one time I lost 8 pounds in a week when my boyfriend broke up with me.(my now husband)I didn't see it coming and he later pleaded temporary insanity. My natural instinct is to pacify myself with food, not unlike a baby with nursing, drinking a bottle, or sucking a binky or thumb. I suppose snacking distracts me and helps me focus on something pleasurable. But I need to grow up and concentrate on whatever is stressful and get it resolved. I know there is a difference between useless worry and thinking through a problem. I have to realize the difference.

Love that quote! I'm going to have to ponder it awhile.
I made the grocery store an adventure...of sorts. I walked through the produce dept. slowly 3 times. I got some fresh veggies and a smoothie package. It's Concord Foods chocolate banana, fat free/no sugar added. I made it when I got home and it is darn good! It reminds me of german chocolate cake. Well, yum!!!!! It makes 2 full glasses. It added milk, banana and ice.
I really walked in there a lot looking at different options and reading labels.
Debbie...honey...time to refocus! Remember when you were so gung ho? Well, I think it was because you spent a lot of time thinking about NFNS. I know the last couple of weeks I've pushed those thoughts aside so I could eat what I wanted. We all have to keep NFNS up front and center all the time. You can do it. Who can resist chocolate chip cookies? Times like that you need to have a really good substitute. I hope you can find the smoothie mix at your WM. It's great. And really filling too. Spring will be here before we know it. Get ready. Oh...and ...love ya! |

I have gotten to the point that I get angry because she dosn't limit herself. I am telling her now that there is a 5 minute limit. When I catch her on I set the timer, but I don't know how long she has been on it in the first place. IN 10 minutes she is on again but she says its someone else this time. Sometimes she is on the computer IMing and on the phone at the same time. I'm getting fed up. We don't have call waiting because I'm too cheap to pay for it. What should I do? What has your experience been? I used to be a teen on the phone too but I don't remember my parents getting so agrivated with me. Maybe they just didn't show it. GRRRRR I don't even answer the phone anymore when it rings because I know its not for me. Its always for the kids, then I have to go look for them. |

Debbie...she is a perfectly normal teenager. Be prepared, it could get a lot worse. Limiting her time on the phone is very reasonable. How long is the question. If she has internet and can communicate that way, I'd say less phone is fair. Set your phone limit, then stick to it. You may have to be the one who answers the phone when she's not allowed to be on it. That way you can tell her friends she can't talk right now. Good luck to you...I wish you much patience.
Good job Alexis! |

My daughter is 14 and last week I told her she can only talk on the phone for one hour per day. She is supposed to set the timer and leave her bedroom door open. I am adding this requirement today,(actually I just did), that she needs to let me know when she is getting on the phone and set the kitchen timer too. My daughters' have cell phones and they are only allowed to text my husband and me. I told them they can't have texting other than that. They have had a few from friends, but they tell the friends they can't have texting. We limit the fun computer time to 30 minutes. Sometimes we let them have it a little more, like on Fridays. My oldest has a 3.8 GPA. Our computer is in the dining/living room area. They don't IM, but they have email and I have their passwords. No facebook or myspace either. I have a facebook and I let my daughters put their info and pictures on it. Their friends ask if I can be their friends and I ok them. It is a good way to see what their friends are really like. To some of you this may seem strict, but kids today have way too many freedoms. They don't like all of the rules, but they have been pretty compliant. I think the earlier we start with these things the better. NFNS so far today. I hope everyone has a great rest of the day. |

Wow-you people with teenagers are bringing back memories. My youngest son was quite the social one. IM's were just coming out-about 1997 and 1998- when he was 14, and his grades Suffered! He was on the computer hours it seemed. You all are in different times now. He always had to be off the computer at about 9:30 and in bed around 10:30 with lights out. Teenagers are stressful. When he had his license he had to be home at 5:30 for dinner unless it was during baseball season (high school baseball team). And I don't know how we kept him in the house on school nights, but he knew it was expected. Yeh, you're right to start with the rules early on. It's still stressful.
I feel like I'm on the computer too much right now. I have to go finish dinner. I've been eating half an apple with breakfast, and the other half in the afternoon with a few other small snacks. And drinking Way more water- it feels great. |

Debbie I know you don't want your phone tied up non-stop but I wish kids talked more on the phone instead of the texting and msn and whatever they do. It seems to me that kids are forgetting how to talk to each other and truly communicate. A study showed kids in the same room not bothering to talk to each other but were texting instead. I think that it is easier to say inapporpriate things texting or in on-line chats...... it doesn't seem as real or as awful. When my youngest was 14 or 15 we found some conversations on-line with girls from school that we were flabbergasted by. They were good kids and we knew they would have never spoken that way face-to=face or even on the phone.......the computer can take away "good" inhibitions. We really felt a need to provide way more instructions as to what was appropriate and what was expected. We thought we had done that and we thought things were going okay because there was just too much stuff we didn't see with all the electronic communication. Kids need rules, supversion and love. I think there are too many parents who give there kids way too much rope which many of them hang themselves with (not literally)......but end up in situations that have long lasting and negative impacts on their lives. I don't know how to limit the phone use but I know I prefer it to other forms of communication......other than face to face.
Do you ever just get tired of all food and feel bored by choices.......not even NFNS......I just some times think every thing sounds boring. It is on days like that that I get the munchies. |

My husband and I can't stand the way kids communicate now. I agree whole heartedly about the inhibition part. They just aren't able to decipher what should or shouldn't be said. My husband has interviewed people recently, that on paper they look great, but then he talks to them and they aren't able to communicate. My daughter needs to use the computer for her project. Talk to ya later. |

Thanks all for the teean aged comments. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only stay at home mom on the planet and everyother mother is out there working while their kids do what ever they want. I do have a good handle on my kids but I realize they need more freedoms (the right kind) as they get older. I have a hard time letting go. Thanks for the advise. It is comforting to know you've been going thru it or are right now. Thanks again. We had bacon lettuce and tomato sandwiches for supper. One of our favorites. I divide the bacon on 6 plates, toast the first bread, put out the rest of the stuff and let them go to town. They can make as many sandwiches with the bacon they are allotted. It works out really good this way. I of course had Ezek bread.
See ya later

I am shocked at the inappropriate ring tones I hear from cell phones. I ws watching Nickelodeon with my granddaughter and heard the word lesbian and changed the channel. |

I am getting bored with food like Bronwyn was saying. Nothing seems worth fixing. Just not interesting. I snack, but am not satisfied. This has been for a week or so. Still nfns, but... This morning husband put venison with veggies in slow cooker. Don't remember having venison before, but it was good. Don't want anymore, but want something even though I am not hungry. This would be the time normally that I would probably bake a pan of brownies or tray of cookies. Not doing that, but just feel blah. Oh, maybe I will get some ns icecream at the store when I go out in a bit. But of course, I would probably eat too much. Grrr.

Yeah Kathleen what is up with that, eh.......just nothing sounds worth making! It is so strange because I love to cook. I have quite a bit of stress right now and everything seems like a hassle or something. I also feel snacky but snacking over all isn't that satisfying. It isn't even like I want to eat junk or anything.........I just have no idea what I want to eat and nothing sounds great. I didn't even really enjoy last nights dinner and I should have, it was a lot of work and quite a nice meal. I even ate the cake (not a good thing to do) but, I wasn't excited about it and there are left overs in the fridge and they aren't bothering me. |

Ok, I'm picking up on a pattern here! I remember after I had been on NFNS for a bit I was tired of food period. I think it has something to do with really steady blood sugar and no cravings. Does it have to be a bad thing? I think we should just roll with it. Maybe this is our bodies craving water and we aren't hungry because we don't need food. At least, not the amounts we are used to eating. It reminds me of when I was little and really could have cared less what was for dinner. I didn't eat much and it was enough. Think about it. Drink some water or have some tea or just have a piece of fruit I have a feeling it will be enough. |

I had shrimp, green beans and Israeli Couscous. I know we decided it probably wasn't allowed, but I knew I wasn't going to take it back. I only had one serving of dinner. I am really trying to not have seconds and pay attention to when I am satisfied. I had non-fat milk too. I haven't been snacky today. Let's hope it carries over to the night. I am really surprised too, since my monthly visitor is here. I am happy to hear that food starts to lose its pull with this plan. I have ice cream in the house from the sleep over and I don't even feel a desire for it. Good Night |
