Bronwyn: I am sorry that your son put himself in this position. We have community college here, do you have anything like that in your area? I guess it would be compared to trade school. Does he have any idea what he might like to do with his life? It is so hard when you just don't know. At community college you can take your general education classes. English, Math, History, etc. They also have more technical type classes as well. I would definitely put my foot down as far as what is expected of him at home. My friend's step-son has stopped going to school and does odd jobs here and there, but doesn't have any real plans for his future. When he is home he watches tv, plays on the computer or plays his guitar. Basically he is a bum. Of course the extra problem is he isn't hers and his dad gets very defensive when she wants to talk to him about how he does nothing to contribute. He doesn't pay rent or anything. He pays his payment for his car and insurance whenever he feels like it. Talk about frustration for my friend. My husband and I have already started telling the girls (13 and 14)they will go to school full-time or work part-time and go to school part-time. We also have told them that if they move out and need to come back home they will be paying rent. We are thinking that when we have them pay rent we will keep the money in savings (without their knowledge) and when they are ready to move out or get married we will give it to them as a reward for their responsibility. Just some ideas for you. I hope I haven't overstepped my bounds here. I hope things go well for all of you. I am so glad you are back writing on here. Have a great evening.

We always have ribeyes and grill them outside. We dress the potatoes up with sour cream. Husband and son add jalapenos and cheese and bacon bits etc. So good!!!!
I agree with you K10 on starting them young with instruction for a higher education. It needs to be ingrained. I would be charging rent if they didn't go to school. I can't imagine the frustration your friend is experiencing with the step son. I would be going crazy in that situation. But for the sake of her marriage, she does need to keep her mouth shut. Hopefully, time will fix all.

My daughter didn't make it in college, but she wasn't allowed home, because of the way she behaved here for years. She is still looking. She will be 21 in October. I am hoping she 'gets it' one day. Defaulting on loans, etc... and a sense of entitlement. Go figure! 11 weeks today nfns. Sorry about your Uncle. He is at peace! Glad everyone is feeling better and checking in. I had to go to a couple psychiatrists before I found a fit. Even did the therapy, wasn't for me. So dang hard when you aren't feeling well, physically or mentally, to continue to search for help. Hand in there.

I just got an email from my sister, it said HUGE BIG BAD computer virus coming. Do not open any email with attachment "Postcard from Hallmark" or anything that has attachment saying "postcard." My sisters email said this checked out on snopes and Microsoft is warning of it too. Heads up I guess.
Kathleen, sorry about your daughter. That bites. My daughter is hanging on, but only just. When summer comes we will be stressed again. Her best friend is moving...her other friends have moved as well. I hope she can suck it up and act right. It's the little things that do us in, like...pick up your room, get up, go to bed, turn off the tv, etc. And the arguments!!!!! She actually thought we were going to buy her a car! She's driving a 1993 Oldsmobile 98...a tank! Looks sad but husband keeps it running. She wants a Trailblazer. Funny, huh? She's 21, has no idea what her major should be, how many hours she has passed and so on. She is maturing VERY SLOWLY!
Today I found out a wonderful lady I knew passed away. She was a real southern belle. Beautiful, intelligent, prosperous, did I say beautiful? A very attractive woman. She had cancer. I can't think of a lot of women that I would say had it all, but she was one of them. Maybe she was 5 yrs older than me. We never know when our time is up. Let's not waste a moment. Let's be all we can be and have our hearts desire and from this day forward, not have any regrets. Life is what we make of it. I am really so surprised by this news...a reality check seemed in order.
Well, it's been a full day. I'm beat. Talk to everyone in the morning. Debbie...take care sweetie. We are all thinking about you and wanting the very best for you. |

Kathleen I thought you may be interested, I did another version of the 3 minute chocolate cake more like a muffin. I ate it just plain with a cup of herbal tea. Here is the new version: (this is for 2 servings) 1/4 cup of almonds, 2 Tablespoons flax meal, 2 tablespoons cocoa, 1/4 tsp. baking powder, 2 tablespoons xylitol, 1 tablespoon coconut butter, 1 tablespoon water and 1 egg. Process and cook in the same manner as before. I am going to try to make a cornmeal muffin using the same process. I find it filling, satisfying and that I don't feel cravings after eating it. I actually think it is healthy as well. The nut base is so much more satisfying than the same thing in flour.
Sounds like we all have our concerns with our kids. I can't think of anything more draining than worry and concerns for our children.
Debbie I hope you are doing well this morning.
K10......I think you are a stay at home mom and I have been as well. I do think it is so disappointing when our families don't show their appreciation and concern for us when we aren't feeling well. Also nothing like a friend saying she will do something (the soup) and then not. I think it is so human to want our loved ones to show their love and support to us when we are down just like we do for them in the reverse situation. It also isn't that satisfying if we have to actually tell the what to do.
Good no flour no sugar day to you all.........

Bronwyn: Amen to your statement. I do stay at home and I am grateful that my husband didn't complain that things weren't done. He is gone about 11 hours each day. On certain days he is driving over 100 miles round trip to work. I think the kids definitely disappointed me most. It makes me wonder what I am raising. Then I think about the fact that when I was 13 and 14 I was pretty self-absorbed too. I think I will talk to them about it this week and just let them know that when someone in the house is sick we need to find out what needs to be done without being reminded to do that. I am going to weigh tomorrow. I have my weight loss Bible study tomorrow. On top of the fact that I have been eating yogurt with sugar it is also that time of the month. At least it will be in the same week. No flour for me. I hope you all have a great day.

Okay ....yes again I am distracted. When I feel a lot of stress I can't focus. Anyways I just re-read my last post...."I am going to try to weigh less"....duh of course that is what I am trying to do but I did mean, "I am going to try and not get on the scales so much". The next sentence does clarify that but it just struck me funny on a weight loss blog that I would write "I am going to try to weigh less"....duh, yeah
Got to get my head focused and be more productive today. I would rather lie on my bed and read something that required little focus. |

It made a lot so looks like leftovers tomorrow night. Today started out gray and now the sun is shinning. Finally! It's beginning to warm up too. So much to do outside. Today I kept so busy I never ate. I didn't even think about it. I don't like doing that but I do it without thinking about it. I remember doing it quit a bit last summer and then worrying it would give me diabetes. Does anyone else ever do that?

I'm not sure if she gained weight and then became diabetic, or became a diabetic and then gained weight. I'm talking about the "big weight" she gained. I'll try and remember to ask her. She misses her old life, but she refuses to do anything to get it back. It's beyond her at this point. |

I do forget to eat. Obviously not often enough, haha. But when working at the store and it is sooo busy, or doing yard work. I just get caught up in it. Sorbee Sugar Free Fine European Chocolate bar. 2.8oz. Sorbee International, Philadelphia, Pa, Product of Germany. Found at local employee owned Woodman's in the candy isle. Pretty good. I week til weigh in!! Weighing in less often actually builds excitement. I am looking forward to weighing in next Monday. That will be the next 4 week mark!!

Sorbee makes a good peppermint patty kind of candy (like an after dinner mint)....can't remember the name of it and one is only something like 35 calories I think (anyways quite a bit lower than Russell Stover).....if you only eat a couple they are quite satisfactory and I found they didn't upset my stomach.
Being busy does help to eliminate thinking about food all the time.....but overall I do think of food way too often. |

Well, I made a dent. So many things I'm not sure what to do with. I need to lock my husband in a room with all his stuff and keep him there until he goes through it all. Like that's going to happen! I've decided to get a box and fill it up every week and then let him go through it a bit at a time during the evenings. Doesn't that sound more than fair? He'll balk, but it must be done. I swear, if I don't stay on top of this stuff it will over run us.

I hate sorting papers and stuff......I have no idea if I can throw them out or not.
Making squash quinoa gratin tonight....I think it is going to be yummy. The recipe says it serves 8.....it doesn't quite look that big. They can make the calorie counts look so reasonable by dividing the recipes into a ridiculous number of servings. I am think realistically 4 - 6 servings. Good for you Bronwyn. Doesn't it feel good to get rid of junk? One thing I realized today is that I have a long way to go. What I need is an empty room to use as a place to sort and reorganize and only then can I put things away in a functioning order. I keep telling myself "as soon as my son moves out..." But who knows when that will be! Seriously, it bothers me a lot, having all that junk upstairs. I waffle between thinking I could have a huge garage sale, or, I could take it all to Goodwill and be done with it. So of course I have a pile for garage sale AND a pile for Goodwill. I'll do it though. I'll be making frequent trips to Goodwill and the garage sale will probably be next spring. How's that for a plan!
Hope everyone is well. K10, how's the healing process coming along? And Debbie, how ya doing honey? Sweet dreams all. |

I am feeling a lot better. I actually walked last night with my husband and a did a few minutes of Wii Fit today. I think about 12 minutes, but I ended up with a head ache. I gained 1.7 pounds since last week. Oh well, I am not worrying about it. I am hoping to start exercising on Monday and to be done with the yogurt and antibiotics. So far so good with the yogurt though. I made fried chicken tonight using corn meal instead of flour. I made it like normal with egg and milk and seasonings. It tasted good. The chicken was skinless, boneless chicken breasts. I need to go through stuff too. My husband should know some more about New Mexico next week. I figure I will have to go through stuff when packing any way. If this job doesn't work out we will probably have to move anyway. My hubby is making less and our house payment is too high. I figure the fact that I am losing weight even with this uncertainty is a good thing. Have you all heard of Octomom? She lives about 5 miles from me. I think they should take those 8 babies and give them to people that have never had children. This woman seems to be a nut. I am so sick of hearing about her. My sparkpeople email was wonderful this morning. It had an article on the GI of foods. That's something I have always been interested in. Anyway, if you can, check it out. The article sent me to a site called glycemicindex.com. It tells you the gi index of any food. The first thing I looked up was dried figs and held my breath while I waited. Surprise! Dried figs was rated low on the gi index. But brown rice was listed as high. That was a surprise too. I'm going to plan my menus around the gi index. Only good things can come from that!

HEllo... I have been away for awhile. When I went down to LA I went off the plan and have had a hard time getting back on. So today I made a big life decision to start going to FA meetings and start working the food addict program. It is also no sugar, no flour, no wheat. The people who have worked this program and got sponsorship have lost TREMENDOUS amounts of weight. Yes there is a lot of weighing your food, but obviously I need to be guided. I am ready to take down wall and really allow myself to be guided by a higher power and become healthy!
Has anyone ever been to the FA meetings or worked this program? |

Hey Megan. Glad to hear from you. Your not the first to take a detour! It's ok. But I'm glad you checked in. I look forward to hearing about your meetings. No doubt you will learn a lot and it's always nice to hear new things. I'm especially interested in the no wheat part. My sister can't have wheat and I wonder if I would benefit from doing that too. I don't think I eat a lot of wheat, but I love my cereal. Today I read puffed rice is has a high gi index. I guess I wonder if I ate;
No Flour No Sugar No Wheat No High GI Index,
what would be left, and would I be healthier for giving up all that? Something to think about.

Hi Connie- thank you for your thoughts. The FA program is very structured. You get certain amounts of food by the ounces and you get all food groups so that you are getting everything you need. You have to call your sponsor everyday and you have to really be honest with yourself. I can't say that I have been. The folks that I know personally who work the program have all lost over 100 pounds with a 6 months time frame. Now I know that sounds like a lot, but you learn that sugar and flour create cravings for other things. They teach you see food differently and not to be used as a crutch. Sooo, I am going to my first meeting on Friday morning-ironically at the church I went to as a child. I am looking forward to reuniting myself with happier times when I was younger. I will write back and keep you all posted on the progress. There are FA meetings everywhere... you can look it up online. |

Hey everyone. We had a good time in Georgia but it was a very quick weekend and then when we got back we had unexpected company for two days so hopefully today we will get back to a normal schedule. Megan, I do love the NFNS way of living but I found I had to do more because you have such a wide variety of food it is very easy to overeat. I have given myself 1200 calories a day and I am keeping up with it in a journal. It is not difficult at all because with the NFNS diet your cravings are gone. I started this five days ago and I have lost three pounds. When I lose two more pounds I am going to up my calories by 100 and see where my losing point ends. I am thrilled and don't feel deprived at all. I have also gotten a box of quart zip lock bags and portioned out like blue chips and I write the calories on the bag. I eat apples and peanut butter, chips and guacomole, Ezekial bread with sugar free fruit jam and lots of chicken salad with red grapes...I went through a calorie chart on the internet and wrote down all my favorite foods and I keep it with my journal in a drawer in the kitchen. Very convenient. This is working for me and I can stick to it. I hope everyone is doing good. I will have to catch up on everyone's blogs after I catch up on some laundry. Megan glad you're back. By the way, I heard on TV yesterday that people who get at least seven and a half hours sleep lose more weight. I don't know how true that is. Have a great day everyone. |

Good morning all. I am finding more sf chocolate! They have it at Trader Joe's by the checkout. It is in a black package and it has a yellow oval that says either milk or dark chocolate. I like the milk chocolate. The label says 'low effective carb & no sugar added'. $1.99 for 3.54 ounces. MMMMM. Eating prunes right now that I get in a box at Aldi. Do you all have an Aldi by you? I get so many of my groceries there. Day 81 nfns. It is becoming such a habit that I forget to number the calendar for how many days sometimes!!! 4 days til weigh in!! I cannot weight (no pun intended!!) That will be the 12 week mark. Laundry...never ending! Hubby getting taxes done today after work. I delegated that job to him this year, although I got ALL the papers ready to take in. I am buying a new pair of pants here and there and getting rid of the others as I 'inch' down! Morning gang! I have to comment on how wonderful it is to turn on my computer and read Angie and Kathleen's posts. You both have taken NFNS and tweaked it to fit your own personal requirements and it's working for you. Good job you two. I think this plan is universal in its basic instruction, but we all need to figure out how to make it work individually. And that part can take some time and effort. Anyway, congrats girls! You both have done well.
Yesterday I had some cereal and had the whole HUGE STOMACH DISTRESS thing going on. I'm throwing out the rest of the cereal. It is just so painful (and noisy!!!!) I'm going to try and avoid wheat for awhile. It shouldn't be hard to do. More specifically, gluten. The Ezek bread is not gluten free and I have a lot of it, so I'll eat those things a little at a time.
Looks like rain here today. The last two days have been so bright and beautiful, I can't complain. Off to run errands today. Later ladies. |

Hello all. I think that when we all first started on this way of life we didn't really need to be overly concerned about portions because the initial changes are so easy. I know Dr. Gott still encouraged paying attention to how much we ate and to eat lean meats etc. I think that I am going to pay much more attention starting on Monday. I think I will start measuring portions and keeping track with that better.
I usually write what I eat, but don't necessarily include quantities. I say Monday because I am going to eat my yogurt until it is gone. I take the last day of my antibiotic today. YAY!!!!
I have been buying the no sugar added ice cream. I make the kids measure out the portions, just because they are used to eating big quantities of it and I want them aware of portion sizes. Also, that stuff isn't cheap.
I think staying away from the snacky foods will make a difference. It is easy for me to eat some Triscuits just because they are allowed. I need to have them not be a daily thing. It will be much easier since we will be having good fruit here for the next few months. This weekend, I want to go to the strawberry stand and buy some. Yum!
Kathleen:That is the chocolate I was talking about that I eat too. Not all the time, but it sure is a good substitute. We don't have Aldi here. Do you know if they are affiliated with any other company?
My husband has an interview scheduled for next week for the New Mexico job. He has to go to Yuma, AZ. Keep us in your prayers please.
Off to clean, clothes, dishes, just about everything.

Hi girls It seems like we are all getting more in tune with working this program to work for us. Angie I am looking at your 1200 calories and thinking I may move down to that. I have lost 3 lbs. in the last 2 weeks. I am keeping track of my calories on Sparks people .....I am getting much more proficient at doing that. I have typed in some of my own recipes and the site gives me all the nutritional counts on those so I can add that on to my day. My calorie range on Sparks is I believe 1250-1650 and I am logging in on the high end and some days a little over that. The really cool thing is that it gives you a complete break down of where these calories are coming from. At the end of the day it indicates that I am getting too many calories from fat or not enough from protein or whatever.....and then the next day I try to allocate my calories better to the different areas. One thing I have to keep saying though.....even if we are tracking calories it is still so important to stay NFNS......I couldn't reduce my calories effectively if I was eating flour and sugar because I would be craving things all the time. My appetite is so much more in control when I don't eat sugar (I am not sure about the flour but definitely the sugar). I am not buying chocolate bars even no sugar ones because I just want to not do that right now but, I frequently have my little chocolate cake and I find that so satisfying.....I have added flaxmeal to it and reduced the butter. It is like a muffin and I have it with herbal tea for a snack or breakfast......after all the base it almonds and then there is flax....why not for breakfast or a snack. I may start to top with blueberries as the season progressing into those crops. |

My son had just turned 2 when we moved and McDonalds had just began selling chicken nuggets! I can't remember the name of the town, Silver City or something like that I think.
Good for you Bronwyn! 3 lbs down and counting. I think dropping your calories is a sure way to get the scales moving. The trick is to keep with it. But with your chocolate dessert handy you can resist all the junk. I may have to try your dessert. I don't know. I do better when I just avoid all extra stuff. Xylital is a sugar substitute? And I don't think I have ever seen coconut butter. Do you buy it at the store? |

Connie, Xylo-Sweet is advertised, just like I am sure that Splenda is, that it is all natural. It is a sugar substitute except I think it tastes so much better than Splenda. Splenda has no calories but xylo-sweet does, I believe 40% fewer calories than sugar. I think it may come from Australia or New Zealand because a lot of the low G.I. diet books from there talk about it and that is where I first heard about it. This is what it says, "Xylo-sweet is metabolized without insulin so it creates a significantly lower effect when eaten". I have found it does not make me crave. The Coconut butter that I have is "Artisana".....it is stupid expensive but yummy. I don't use it a lot or in large quantities because it is so expensive. Anyways for the cake.....it isn't all that decadent and would be equivalent to eating a wholesome muffin (not a junk muffin).....it has no flour as the base is almonds and I have been cutting the coconut butter to 1 Tablespoon so that is only 1/2 T. per cake and then I am putting in 2 T. of flaxmeal. So what you have is almonds, flaxmeal, egg, coconut butter and xylo-sweet......and I eat it as a snack or even breakfast with some fruit. It is actually a way for me to have a nutty treat and not eat so many nuts. Anyways I don't have it all the time. |

aldi.com has a store locator. It is a German company with stores all over the world. I like splena. I haven't tried others except sweet and low. I will stick to splenda with no calories!! 22 degrees this morning. Gosh, goofy time of year!! Did you see Googles home page today. 1st day of spring with artwork by Eric Carle, very cute. Reminds me of the days of reading to the kids! nfns to all today. 3 days til weigh in!! |

Morning. Thanks for all the info Bronwyn. I will check it out. I'm using Truvia for the most part now, but still trying to use up my remaining Splenda here and there.
Off to work today. I'm very tired, sleep was elusive last night. Daughter came home last night sick. It just wasn't a relaxing evening or night. But I'll manage. When I get home late this afternoon, I predict I'll get off my feet and stay that way!
Have a great day everyone. |

Hello. Typical day. Laundry, sorting mail, thinking about cleaning. My girls are going away tonight to a church function. They will be back tomorrow. Maybe hubby and I can go to dinner or something???? My cat Jake is lying (is that the right word?) between my arms as I am typing. He is such a nerd. I hope you all have a good weekend. Connie: sorry your kiddo is sick. Take care. |

Connie they can do a test to determine if it is her appendicits......that can be a very serious matter if it is left untreated as I am sure you know. My friends daughter was told she just had the flu and her appenditics ended up rupturing and she was in the hospital for months.
Kathleen I admire how much patience you have with waiting to weigh......I just can't do that (well that isn't true.....of course I could if I set my mind to it but I do find it tempting to get on the scales too often). I wonder if weighing infrequentely helps you to stay more on track....... your eye on the goal!
Well my sons home, they got home last night late. He is already off to look for a job......so that is good. We are showing forth love with a lot of support together with a lot or rules and expectatons. I keep thinkng of the Prodical(spelling....my computer isn't spell checking....not sure how to adjust that) Son and think we need to let him know that there isn't anything he can do that would cause us to not love him.......but there are as well expectations as to how he has to conduct his future. We also believe in restitution of some form. He wasn't able to finish off the semester which means that there was a lot of good money put forth for no good return, he will owe us some replacement of that money.
I have had a total NFNS week.....and plan to continue from here.
Debbie M. I am so hoping you called your Dr. this week.....???
K10 have a very special night.......take advantage of just the two of you being there. |

Bronwyn, you really have your act together in regards to your son. How can it not work with all that positive thinking!
I just heard on the news they have identified the "gene "(I think that's what they called it) that turns carbs into fat. The emphasis was on a new drug to counter the effect, I don't know about that, but I guess more knowledge is always a good thing...actually, I don't know about that either!
Daughter has half of appendicitis symptoms. I doubt that is what is wrong with her, but I'm watching for signs. Whatever it is she has, she is way under the weather! But no fever. She's dehydrated so once we get that taken care of, she'll probably feel much better. |

After sons' track meet tonight we went out to eat at Olive Garden. Hmmm. Boys looking forward to pasta and bread sticks. sounded good to me too, but... Hubby and I each got the grilled seasoned salmon that had steamed broccoli. We got the salad too. Oh my, I never would have gotten salmon at Olive Garden in the past, but very good and so satisfying. Sons felt bad that I couldn't have the breadsticks, I didn't feel bad! Just satisfied! Good night all.

Bronwyn my Mother went through a period of only getting a few hours of sleep a night but she gets good sleep now. Actually, Daddy wakes her up at 8:00 and she don't want to get up then. I hope you will get straightened out. I wonder if it could be hormone related. Almost all the women in my Sunday school class say they have to take something to help them sleep. I hope I never get that way because I do love my sleep and you do not want to be around me when I don't get at least seven hours. I go to bed around 9:30 everynight and get up at 5:30. We will sleep till 7:00 on the weekends.
I am still holding to my 1200 calories and I have lost another pound. I did get very munchie yesterday but I stuck to cut up strawberries with some truvia sprinkled on them. I hope I can make it through the weekend without munching to much.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and Connie I hope your daughter will have a complete recovery soon. My daughter which is 22 went to the beach this weekend so I am lifting up prayers for her that she will use good judgement around all those spring breakers.

My husband and I went to Carino's Italian Restaurant last night. I guess they have really good bread. We both got Caeser's Salads. Mine had grilled shrimp (4) and artichoke hearts (3), hubby's had chicken breast. We didn't get any bread or croutons. I had some more of my yogurt this morning and 2 pieces of Ezekiel raisin toast. I am looking forward to starting my exercise back up on Monday. I am also going to not have anymore yogurt after tomorrow. I am off antibiotics now so I hope I have made it through without getting thrush. I have gained weight with the sugar from the yogurt and I have eaten after 8, partly because of spreading out my pills and then eating with them. So Monday will be a nice fresh start with exercise, no sugar and no eating after 8. I didn't eat flour though. Off to clean. Have a great NFNS day girls. |

Hey Connie and Bronwyn- Did one of you say you quit reading Jodi Picoult? I was just wondering why. I'm reading one of her books now - I think it's called Change of Heart- I've read books by her and liked them.
Bronwyn do you drink decaf coffee or decaf tea? I had to eliminate all decaf drinks so I could sleep well. Just drinking hot water all day (if you want hot drinks) helps to alleviate insomnia. Usually I can drink chamomille tea or peppermint tea as long as it is decaf.
So, just wondering, what went wrong with Jodi Picoult for some of you readers?

I'm not sure the type they have at the store is the type I want. I need to do some more investigating.
I am the one who quit reading Jodi Picoult. First, I did like her books. She is a talented author for sure. But right now I am taking a break from "heavy" story lines. Do you know what I mean? I may read her again. I am currently happy reading fluffier, zanier, goofier pieces of work. I like to laugh, out loud if possible. |

Things are fine. We are in Rhode Island this weekend at our condo. Bronwyn, I had been taking benedryl for about eight years -nightly!- to help me sleep. Recently, I read about one of the possible side effects so I quit taking benedryl about 2 weeks ago. There are some days where my only hot drink is hot water. But I have been sleeping fine recently. If you are caffeine free and still have trouble sleeping-I don't know what else to recommend except One benedryl about 1 or 2 hours before bed. It worked great for me. That's why I took it for years. A friend of mine takes melatonin once in a while as a sleep aid. The side effect I was concerned about from Benedryl was constipation. But you could try the Benedryl once and see how it works.
Connie, I know what you mean about fluffier books. My husband and I like visiting used book stores and I get bestsellers, that I can buy cheaper because they are not current. Did you read Memoirs of a Geisha? I bought it-don't know if I'll like it. |

Kaston one of the reasons I don't take drugs is because I have bad reactions to them. I am so afraid of ever having to have a general anethestic again because I go crazy from it........people usually come out of surgery sleepy and lethargic......I come out wanting to climb out of my bed and run around the hospital screaming (honest I am not crazy but I have terrible reactions to drugs). I naturally have jumpy leg syndrome and when I try benadryl or any of those I am just climbing the wall I am so agitated and jumpy. Melatonin did not have any effect on me (in helping with sleep) except make me feel groggy the next day.
Have any of you read any Haven Kimmel......oh my word they are wild and bizarre. The only one I have read was called "A girl named Zippy: Growing up small in Mooreland, Illinois". The authour has to be totally ADD and actually I think I am as well (self diagnosed). As I started to read it I felt annoyed by it because she was all over the place with her story. As I got into it though I felt her style of writing to be very endearing and fun. I want to read her, "She Got Off the Couch: and other Heroic Acts from Mooreland, Illinois",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,now is that an interesting title or what.
Kaston have you seen "Dan in Real Life"......it is such a fun movie and I believe it takes place in Rhode Island. Rhode Island looks so appealing to me, I would love to go there. I have been to New York and Washington D.C. a few times but not the other coastal provinces or I mean States.
Trying to be busy and doing things but I am tired and unfocused.................groan.......Go Connie go, you are an inspiration!!!!! |

Eating fresh fruits and veggies are healthy for you.
Yesterday, I attended a birthday party. It was so disgusting see some guests stuff themselves with 5 pieces of birthday cake (Costco). If you are invited to a party or an event. Try to have a no sugar no flour meal prior to the event. So when you are at the party you will not binge.

Kashton I know I wish there were more movies like "Dan in Real Life" as well, it is wholesome and fun. You feel uplifted by it. My word what a terrible name for chocolates.......it sounds too close to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I looked at the web site though and they looked very good....my family loves turtle style chocolates. Do they make sugar free ones. Laura Secord had a sugar free turtle type chocolate. It sounds like one of those local favourites!
I agree with Triplet Mum......sugar is "crap" but I certainly haven't reached the point of even just the smell making me feel nauseous........some day I hope. I am really turned off by total junk though and I have never been a fan of Costco cakes.....or those enormous muffins that have more fat in them than a double cheese buger. Morning all. I'm propped up in bed drinking coffee and reading everyone's latest posts. All that talk of chocolate...yikes! If you have to have it, by all means try and do as little damage as possible. But we would be far better off grabbing a piece of fruit. Remember there is a belief out there that even sugar free things lead to cravings. Just something to keep in mind.
Kathleen, I think you misunderstood Triplet moms post. I think she was saying she has been 100% NFNF. And I know from her previous posts she has been that way for 3-4 years. Look at her post on March 2nd. She's something! Her little ones eat this way too. Go Triplet Mom!
Last night we watched Twilight. Daughter was sick, so I bought it for her. It was ok. I understand why they will be using a new director for the next one. It lacked...depth. It moved along, almost too fast. I hope the next one is better. Daughter ate more yesterday and she is starting to feel better. I guess she just had a major bug. Today I hope she can eat even more. Tomorrow she goes back to school and I really want her to be able to eat and get her strength back.
I'm working across the street today, and some ironing around here. My weight this morning was 147. I go up and down. The lowest I've ever weighed since starting NFNS was 143.4. So now that's the standard for me. I hope to go below it eventually, maybe sometime during the summer. But if I don't, that's ok. I'm doing just fine in my size 10's. I never thought I'd see that size again. BTW, I had some cereal and it didn't bother me. So know I'm thinking I ate to much dried fruit, figs and apples on the day I had the belly ache, with cereal. Probably was just too much fiber.
Debbie, how are ya doing!
Everyone have a great day, I'll check in later. |

| posted 22-Mar-2009 3:36pm
Connie after having read Twilight I can't really think the fact the movie lacked depth was because of the director You would have had to be a screen genius to put depth into that story........Bella lusting over the beauty of Edward could be a long dry movie. The other books in the series may make for a bit better movies, I don't know but Bella lacks depth through out all of them IMHO.
Actually I agree with you about the potential cravings with having even sugar free chocolates.......at least for me but some people seem to do really well with it. I am going to stick to my occassional 3 minute chocolate cake because I am honestly satisfied with it and have no cravings after. I have always been a cake person or muffin person and this is actually a healthy version of that.
Do you ever have snacky days.....I didn't eat bad stuff yesteray but I didn't make a meal and just kind of ate snacks all day. Overall I eat too many calories when I do that and then I don't even really keep count. It works so much better for me when I actually make meals. I think it is kind of a week-end thing especially Saturdays to not cook and to snack.
We had a massive dump of snow last night. Just when it seemed like we were turning the corner and heading into spring The temps aren't bad though but what a dump.
I have some steaks marinating and I am making a zucchini gratin,,,,I'll have to do potaotes and dessert as well. i'll let you know how the gratin turns out, it sounds good. Most gratins have bread crumbs but this one doesn't and I don't know if that is because it has rice. I made an Quinoa and squash gratin last week that called for bread crumbs and I used Ezekial. |

Bronwyn, the recipe is in Dr. Gott's cookbook. Full name is "Tastes like cookie dough oatmeal":
1 stick butter, softened 1 cup granular splenda 2 eggs 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 5 teaspoons ground cinnamon 2 cups milk 3 cups old fashioned rolled oats
In large glass microwave-safe bowl, cream butter and splenda with electric mixer. Add eggs and beat again. Then add baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix 1 minute longer. Slowly add milk until mixed. Add oats, 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition. Cover bowl and cook in microwave 4 minutes on high. Stir and continue cooking, covered, on 50% power 6 minutes. Serves 6
Recipe says leftovers can even be eaten cold straight from the fridge. For variety, sprinkle with nuts and raisins. |

Hi Connie, Bronwyn, Hilda and all,
I'm doing good. I have been off program completely. But I am happy. I have been busy with the children's teacher conferences. Report cards came out so I had meetings with the teachers to talk about progress. That was last weeks focus.
This week we are focusing on getting the house refinanced. There is a good chance we can save some money on a better interest rate but it requires an appraisal of the house. It is going to be tough to get the house cleaned up for that. A huge job actually. If my energy stays up I will be able to accomplish a lot. I staged my last house and sold it in 5 days without a realtor. I know how to do it, it's just maintaining the oomph to DO it that is the challenge. :o)
I haven't been reading the posts so I don't know how everyone is doing but I hope all is well. Bronwyn, how are you doing? Have you had a loss?

Morning ladies. I'm recovering from my weekend. My body is very sore so I'm making myself take it easy. When I get off the computer I'm going to stretch for awhile and hopefully that will help. Sunday I spent about 3 hours picking up limbs from downed trees across the street. So, my back is trying to lock up on me. Not to mention my thighs are screaming! But I don't mind the thigh pain, that has to be good for me. I worked all day yesterday, I could barely walk by evening, my back was so tight. To be honest, I know ab work would strengthen my back, I just haven't done any. I feel so dumb when it comes to exercise. I really don't know what I'm doing. Then to top everything off, I have a booty problem too. Whatever!
My diet has been less than spectacular as well. When daughter was home, she's better now, she baked cookies for her brother and left them out. So I found them at 3:00 in the morning and went to town. I think I had seven of them. That has started a nighttime scavenger hunt for the last two nights. So far I've been feasting on pb, but any calories in the middle of the night is not good. I'm going to have to put the pb up before I go to bed tonight. I had a conflict with husband Sunday, so I just am not feeling strong in any way. This too shall pass. But right now, I kind of sucks to be me!
Debbie, it's really good to hear from you. And really good that you are feeling good. You have your hands full right now and I'm thinking, no matter how we are doing on our eating, we should always be happy with our lives. There are small changes in our eating we can make, that over time, should make a difference on the scales.
Rain today, a day to be inside. I need to vacuum, laundry...the usual. But I think I'll do as little as possible and stay off my feet. That is so hard to do. Later all. |

I need a quick response from this if possible. I am making a salad to take to dinner on Thursday night. I usually use seasoned rice vinegar. I just realized it has sugar and brown sugar in it. I just need to know which vinegar I should use as a substitute? White, red wine or apple cider? I don't have white, just the other two, but could buy white. I need to be able to make this salad because the other food option there will be pizza. UGH!!! I add Splenda to the dressing already so I was thinking I will add more to it this time. I just need to know which vinegar I should use as a substitute? Thank you in advance for your help. Things are fine here. I am almost to my weight before I got sick. I am 1 pound from my lowest weight since starting this plan. I have exercised the last 2 days, I may even play on my Wii Fit later today. I can't remember if I said this before, but I am not buying any more no sugar added treats, ice cream and pudding. I just end up turning to them instead of fruits or veggies. I noticed since I bought them I tend to have more cravings, I am sure the yogurt I was eating contributed too. Time to go get groceries. I hope you all have a good day. Connie: Sorry about your back. I hope you feel better soon. |

K10....only the seasoned rice vinegar has sugar in it.......a straight rice vinegar does not have sugar in it. Rice vinegar is very mild and of course clear so that may be why you like that in your salad. Other clear vinegars that are nice are white balsamic and champagne or sherry vinegars which are very nice for a vinagrette dressing. In the Red vinegars there are great chocies....one is a pomegranite vinegar which is lovely. I love a good dark balsamic vinegar but it is not esthetically always the best choice for a salad. Really a seasoned rice vinegar is the only one I know of that has sugar in it. Depending on the falvours of your salad I love Braggs Apple Cider vinegar and I would use that in a lentil salad or soup. |

Debbie M. I am glad that you are happy but still I would like you to talk to your Dr. about those low periods you go through. You asked about my weight......honestly I am going to have to go to my Dr. and see if I can find out what the heck is my problem. I can be so good for so long and see so little progress and then have one bad day or week-end and gain 2 or 3 lbs. I don't think that is normal and I think there must be some issue that I need help with.......I suspect thyroid which also can affect sleep patterns.
Connie you better take it easy for a while. I guess 'limbs" is kind of a local expression but it always sounds funny to me to hear you and Hilda say that you are out picking up limbs......I just see arms and legs I would more commonly say branches, it is interesting what terminlogy is common from area to area. I had a friend from back east who always said she was going to "bring the bus"........ bring it where? I would say, "I was going to take the bus" and she thought that was strange......take it where?
I am really beginning to think that I just can't lose weight. It is so discouraging. Yesterday I had no flour no sugar but I didn't keep track of my calories and I felt I probably ate too much......but my weight was up 2 or 3 lbs.......what the heck is that all about.....really!!!!!! I don't eat any processed foods, no transfats, no caffeine, no sugar no flour .........come on what gives here, eh?!?!?!? |

Bronwyn: DO NOT WEIGH EVERYDAY. That can cause me so many problems. Don't do anymore than once per week. :) Thank you for your quick reply. I will look for rice vinegar when I go to the store. Maybe I can just do a taste test and see which one is closest to the rice wine vinegar? It is interesting how different phrases are used in different places. In the early 90's we lived in Minnesota and they call soda, "pop" and we would ask what kind of Coke do you want? I would of course say Pepsi. I worked with a girl in MN that asked,"would I borrow her a dollar?" I told her, "I would loan her a dollar." I knew you weren't talking about body parts, but I am not even sure which way I would say that? I know on the East Coast they say they wait "on line". Now that has such a different meaning. I know that I wait "in line."
Hilda: If someone said they "tooted at me", I would think they passed gas.
Kathleen: How did your weigh-in go yesterday? I hope you are doing well.
Talk to y'all later. I have covered the North, South, East and West now. Dude! :9 |

Bronwyn..the oatmeal is still porridge-like. It is thick, but not really like a muffin. I added milk when I reheated mine the second day. Go ahead.....give it a try! |

That was cute K10! When I first moved to TN I was amazed at the different lingo. I'm used to it now, but I still speak northern in a lot of ways, so I get teased too. Then when I'm in MI I'll say something southern and people comment on it. One thing I have noticed is, southerners think if you are from up north then you must be from NJ. Everyone here keeps asking me to say "park the car in the yard." Of course I don't have a Jersey accent, but they all expect me to. It's just amazing, the differences in our speech.
We watched a movie tonight, Quantum of Solace and I liked it very much. I've been a Bond fan since HS. That's a long time. Anyway, I didn't munch my way through it. I was a good girl. My back is better. Staying off my feet works every time, but that is so hard to do. And no one appreciates it after 24 hours so tomorrow I'll see what I can get done.
Raining like the dickin's here. We has some wind today also. The rain brings the beautiful greens, so bring it on. Almost time to garden.
Sweet dreams all. |

Craving some salmon salad(like tuna salad). Think I'll go boil some eggs.I have gotten so many compliments on my wig this week. I am looking at buying another one. Got on line last night and saw a different one I hadn't seen before. Eva Gabor "Caper" I think it is very similar to the one I already have. I may see if I can get it one shade lighter for summer. Also liked the Tony of Beverly "Aubrey". |

I think I had too much fiber today. I had oatmeal with berries this morning, a PB&J on Ezekiel bread for lunch and a no sugar added (hopefully) strawberry Jamba Juice. Now my stomach is bothering me. To top this all off, our bathtub isn't draining. Well it is, just very slowly. I will be hearing from the plumber in the morning through our home warranty. I am so thankful our travel trailer is in the driveway, that is where my husband will have to shower. Now I will probably have to cancel my hair appointment. What a bummer. I will let you know how my day goes tomorrow. |

If we had a storm and the yard needed picking up we would go out and pick up sticks. But if the sticks were larger they would be branches. Limbs would be something that might need triming while on the tree. Or you might say there is a big limb down if it fell. A Christmas ornament would go on a branch around here. Mostly a branch is a local bank, smaller than the main one. heh
Now for the carts you push at the store. Who calls them buggies? No one around here. Buggies are what you put babies in. But usually we call them strollers.
I did the whites and towels yesterday at the laundramat. Today I am goig back to do the colors and some sheets. I will be caught up then. And I will be able to do just one load a day and hopefully stay caught up.
Is your wig comfortable Hilda? I can hardly stand to wear a hat or even a headband for very long let alone a wig. |

We also take the bus. To bring the bus would be to put it in your purse and bring it with you. hehe |

The wig was a little itchy the first day. After that nothing. I never know I have it on. I am amazed at how well it looks after being out in the wind. I was pumping gas yesterday and there was wind like you would have thought could have blown it off and it was fine. It goes right back into place when you get out of the wind. |

How nice to not have to style your hair. I bet its great to have no fuss "hair".
I'm back from the laundry. Now I just have to dry it all.
Chilli for supper tonight.
Have a good day y'all. |

Debbie...so good to hear from you again! I'm with you, Hilda you make me want to go buy a wig. I can't imagine how great it would be to have no fuss beautiful hair. A dream come true!
Sunny today, but I'm staying off my feet.
Tonight I'm trying a recipe from sparkpeople.com. Teriyaki meatloaf. Son said it sounds gross. Oh well, that's what we are having. By the way, the other night we had acorn squash with blue cheese. Another sparkpeople recipe. I had never had acorn squash and it was really good. The produce at the store is becoming more varied everyday. I love trying new veggie recipes. And I bought some more polenta. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. Anyone have a suggestion? |

When we meet for our f"inally lost our weight reunion" we will all have to come in wigs so we can just have fun and no fussing with our hair Of course Kathleen is the smart one and doesn't fuss with her hair any ways, eh!!!!
Debbie M........I had both baby buggies and strollers for my babies. The strollers were the things you could fold up and put in the car for going shopping but a baby buggy or pram was the big moving baby bed.......they could get some fresh air and sleep on the porch or beable to sleep and be comfortable going for walks. I have a couple of antique baby wicker buggies. Now at the store I would take (not bring) a shopping cart or shopping buggy to do my shopping.
Debbie sorry about all the travelling back and forth to the laundromat......I have been there and done that when we had septic trouble.......what a pain.
Connie I haven't tried any sparks peoples recipe I should do that. I made a meatloaf off of the low carb site I was trying to post and got shut down on this site for doing. It was a cheeseburger meatloaf with a spicy/sweet tomato topping. My husband really liked it. The teriyaki one sounds good.
I haven't been logging in my calories for a few days......I am back on that today. I know I have had that sort of give up feeling as the wedding approaches and I haven't really made any progress............but I can't let this unmet goal for the wedding set me back. A set back would mean gaining weight.......better off to maintain than gain. Hey that is an addition to my new mantra's.........."I am really good at eating no sugar but I am not good at eating a little sugar"........."better off to maintain than to gain".................. |

Well wow! I just saw the people magazine cover of Valerie Bertinelli in a bikini! OMG!!!! We should all buy a copy and put in on our refrigerators. She is 48, if she can do it.....!!!!! There must be a personal trainer involved. I haven't read the article, but I will. Check it out everyone. |

Our drain is fixed. Sixty bucks for maybe 10 minutes worth of work. But it is fixed and that is what matters.
I got my hair cut and colored today. I cut about 6-7 inches off the length. It is layered and just past my shoulders. I was feeling frumpy with it so long. I like it. I just let it dry today, because she charges extra to blowdry and the plumber was due to be here anyway. It is wavy. She put mousse and some other product in it. I never do that. I am curious as to how it will look when I dry it.
I just got in a battle of the wills with my home schooled daughter. Her language arts teacher gave her a zero on a research report. Zero out of 50. She didn't read the comments that were given on her rough draft and now she has to do it over. I told her this might happen. She is more than old enough to follow the directions that are given and find out the consequences for that. She doesn't apply herself like she should and of course she now hates this school. Every time she gets dealt with regarding something she claims to hate it. She likes it when she doesn't have homework to deal with or can go away with a friend like she is next week. She also has to redo some Algebra and work ahead so she can go away with her friend. She will be a busy little bee.
I am making meatloaf for dinner. I pressed it into a 9" X 13" pan so it will cook quicker.
My hairdresser gave me an idea today regarding tuna. She adds jalepenos to it. I thought sounded good.
Debbie M: nice to hear from you and your examples were funny.
Talk to you later.

Connie I just googled Valerie Bertenelli in a bikini and the cover for People's mag. came up......wow!!! I have always thought she was so cute. I can't remember the name of the show she was on when she was young......but I would say she is thinner now than when she was a teen. Can she keep it off.......I think with lots of work she can. |

I do not think jalapeno peppers are good for your stomach. I never eat them. |
