Overall, I have improved in that area, obviously not last night. Do you have any health food stores near you? I saw a lot of no sugar added spreads at one I went to a while ago. How about Henry's? |

So, I'm reading the Glycemic Load diet here at work while I'm running some batches and can't do anything while they are processing anyway. This is a really interesting book, has anyone here actually followed this? As soon as I'm done reading the book I think I will give it a try, I will weigh in tomorrow and see where it takes me, hopefully down cause I know my weight is up right now. I don't remember who first mentioned this book here, but I am thankful for whoever it was! |

Debbie- You asked how I would feel if someone said that to my child; I would feel absolutely horrible. When someone hurts your child's feelings it's heartbreaking. Honestly, the grandmother sounds like a jerk! She sounds like she's the one with the problem.
The dental surgeon said I'm in good shape for being 4 days out from this. So I am relieved. He said the swelling should get a little better everyday now.

K10, Yes she does feel used for babysitting her grandkids. But she does not feel used for watching my kids as they are hardly ever over there and if they are it's outside. Her grandkids are at my house a lot. As for calling My girl Bacon Fat, yes she did and didn't deny it. And another thing is she dosn't like my children or anyone elses. But he did say mine. I'm glad she dosn't live in our neighborhood. I am going to avoid her like the plaque from now on. My daughter is a little over weight. She carries it around her middle so instead of getting a normal size, she will get the same size with a +. I told her she is healthy and beautiful and it was a shame this gma acted so childishly. Good idea to pray for her.
Wow, 2girls, while I am saddened by what you had to overcome, I am glad you could see your way to do so. I'm sure it was very difficult and still is at times. But we can do all things in Christ who gives us strength. I definately would rather deal with an immature gma.
Thanks girls for all your words of encouragement. It really has helped me to get over it and put it into perspective.

Kathy, I'm eating all foods now. I can get my teeth together now but I still have to be careful. There is a hole that food can get into so I still chew on the other side and do a lot of gentle rinsing. Oh boy, I hope you don't have dry socket as this is extremely painful, I read.
Meg, I love hummus. The problem is I can't stop eating it and it has soooo many calories. Beware as I think this was the beginning of my weight gain after my initial loss.
Bronwyn, Yes my daughter is very sensitive about her weight. This dosn't help at all. Oh, and the gma is way way over weight herself. Now aint that callin the kettle black? The dad did seem appologetic but I don't know if he really cared as much or if he was just trying to keep peace because we are neighbors. |

I ended up outside weeding all day. I couldn't stand it! Tomorrow I'll finish the biggest part, and then have it all done by Thursday. I have things ready to plant so I'm ready to be done with it all.
Learning that the gma has weight issues herself puts a whole new spin on it. I know that, she knows that, in her heart of hearts, she has big time issues. No doubt about it. In her quiet time, alone with herself, she is ashamed. Ashamed of herself and her actions. Such a person is to be pitied, what a sad existence. I'll pray for her tonight.
Keep reading 2girls, and share the info!
K10, I am making up for yesterdays splurge by eating lightly today. Rice and cottage cheese for dinner, some grilled chicken too.
Debbie, congrats on the great dtr appt! Your husband seems to be the perfect example of success. I was thinking about your hummus problem. Maybe you could buy some and divide it up into individual size serving baggies and freeze them. In the morning set one out and by later in the day it would be thawed and ready to eat. I do that with fruit, works great.
Happy 4 days out Kathy. Everyday you will be feeling better, yea!!!!!

I guess each of us have trigger foods. I have never considered for myself to have a problem with over eating hummus, although I do really like it. So Debbe M. you "picked" a healthy thing to over eat I know, I know I am just kidding overeating anything isn't health My issues are definitely with sugar and most specifically with chocolate. I read somewhere recently that the most important thing you could do for your health was to take off weight no matter how you had to do it. The article said the worst thing for you health is being overweight. I do think there are programs though that are so drastic that they aren't healthy and that they don't result in long term results. As I read these posts, which I have been doing for over a year now, I see people making real changes not just temporary ones. Some of us have had better results than others in actually losing the weight, but we have all become more conscience of what we eat. I find myself looking at things more day to day......today and yesterday I have been NFNS and I like that. I like the addition of green smoothies to my program, that makes me feel good. I guess what I am saying is whether our weight issues are big or small......we are all on the road to improved health and that is all a good thing. The fun part is being able to help and support each other in all kinds of ways as well.
K10....sorry about the New Mexico job situation. Does that mean you will stay in California? Why was your husband wanting to change jobs......just to leave California......if so I guess the new California job offer won't be too exciting? We continue to have some real stress over our work situation. Things don't look any better and in fact look more bleak as the days go by. I think it is common for men to not want to talk about these kind of things........and if it is common then my husband falls right into that category. I want to talk about things more......discuss things......figure them out......he tends to not like to talk about it. Things he had hoped were going to work out ..... haven't ,,,,,,, people are just being very caution right now. I guess at 54 you start to wonder if you will ever get your break again. The other thing you wonder is what you are going to do if things don't start to work out.......and a man seems to carry that burden for the whole family. Not that he should but it seems like he does. I also think it affects your self-esteem when not being able to get things happening doens't have anything to do with his talent or abilities......it truly is because his talents are so much more in demand in a good economy. There are some things that are more recession proof.
2 girl....I think the G.L. stuff is interesting and I think I am possibly insulin resistant and that I may continue to have a hard time to lose weight until I try to be more conscious of the G.L. of my food, Dr, Scwarbein believes that you have to heal your adrenal glands before you can have success in weight loss. I like her books and think she has a lot of good information but I have this thing where if I can't do something 100% than I feel I can't really do it. She is an endocrinologist in Santa Barbara, California. I would love to go there and have all the specific blood work done that would tell me exactly where I am at with my adrenal stuff and my hormones. Her program is NFNS......but it isn't low fat per say. She has you keep track of carb grams per meal. You may want to check her books out of the library if you like reading about this kind of thing. 2 girl you are brave to have gone through what you have and to continue to work on your relationship........I hope your husband knows how lucky he is to have you as a companion in his life. |

Bronwyn: I think we do eventually want to get out of California. Northern Ca, is so different than Southern Ca. It is more spread out and not as crowded. We will have to see what happens. Our main interest right now, is that my husband makes more money. He is doing a job that he should be paid a significantly higher amount. He had checked into this company, a couple of times before over the years and they always offered a lot less money than the going rate. When he was out of work going on 3 months, he decided this was better than nothing. He is getting experience and meeting more people in the industry which is good. He is working this job like he plans on staying for a long time. He isn't one to do a job half way (except at home, hehe). Please do not think we don't appreciate the job he does have, because we do. He wasn't even looking for a job when these other prospects came up. God has His plans I know.
Connie: I guess you will be getting our heat. It is supposed to be 78 degrees here tomorrow too.
I am really struggling with the munchies right now and I think it has to do with the job situation. I plan on being NFNS though. I just had some premade popcorn from the store.

Aldi now has premade guacamole in the cooler section. It's in two separate bags inside a box. I tried it and like it. It's a good substitute for when fresh isn't possible. I should check the ingredience thought. I forgot to do that. It has the kind of fat that helps rid your body of the bad cholesterol, like olive oil. See Bronwyn, thoughts like that never used to pop into my head. Change does come gradually but it comes.
Put brocoli and blueberries in there with the perfect food list.
We took the Dave Ramsey Funacial Peace University Course. It was very enlightening.
Connie, Great idea with the hummus!
K10, If you want some really adictive store bought pop corn (loaded with all kinds of bad stuff I'm sure) it's Kroger Brand cheese corn. It's made with blue cheese. Best cheese corn ever. Kroger has the best chocolate milk too. I can't EVER have it in the house or I drink it all.
Bronwyn, good for you for not snacking. But don't let yourself get too hungry or you'll end up over eating. I chose not to eat tonight too but for another reason. Food keeps getting stuck in my extraction site. Then what a pain it is to remove. lol Whatever it takes!

K10......how is corn meal not considered a flour.....anyways these cookies wouldn't work for us because the chocolate has sugar in it......unless you used artifically flavoured chocolate chips. Dr. Gott does use corn meal.....so I don't know? I made them for my kids as a wholesome treat.....and I do think they meet that criteria. Almond meal doesn't say.....almond flour???? Gee I don't know ...... it is confusing!?!?!??!!? Some of things are kind of splitting hairs and we just have to decide how we are going to deal with it......i do occassionally make NFNS cornbread with cornmeal and I know Dr. Gott has recipes using corn meal as well. Well first day of the GL diet, weighed in at 278 this morning, shoot up 9 lbs since I started NFNS, obviously portion control and insulin resistance. For breakfast I tried Breakfast Cereal Sundae from the book: 1 sprig mint (ok didn't use that), 1/2 cup yogurt (low carb or unsweetened), 1/2 cup All-Bran cereal, 1 ripe nectarine, sliced, berries for garnish. We'll see how satified I stay with that.
I read up to the slow-twitch chapter, I need to get moving. I might try to fit it in at work and go walking outside on my lunch break, that probably be easiest for me.

Morning! Everyone sounds very involved in getting healthy and losing weight. Yesterday I ate well, and other than the slip up at the pancake house, I have been trying to do better overall. I have been staying NFNS, but eating too much. I think I'm just at the end of my rope with being stuck inside the house and bored. I'm waiting for the temp to warm up. Then I'll be outside again. BTW,all the fresh air had a so-so effect on my sleep.
2girls, I had to smile when you brought up slow twitch. It took me back to my fit or fat/running days. I'm very tall and the slowest running person ever! I always thought I should be faster...could it be all my leg muscles are slow twitch. I read that in a book, but others argue with me about it. Anyway, thanks for the memory!
Debbie, you are sounding wonderful...more like the person from last year. Could it be the weather warming up? Good to hear form you. I did ok on your bad food list. The only foods I eat off it are bacon (twice a month, maybe) and I've purchased sugar free candy twice since I started NFNS. I gave up processes meat a long time ago.
Is the guacamole "Wholly Guacamole?" I love it. They sell it at the WM here. Now it comes in a bag with individual sized servings so you can use it a little at a time without the browning.
The difference between "meal" and "flour?" We need to figure that one out.
Bronwyn, you keep gathering info that will help you in the long run. And thanks for sharing it.
K10, google NFNS recipes and find some recipes you like. I go to sparkspeople and click on gluten free. Then I find the ones that fit NFNS.

I am good on your list of foods except for nuts and peanut butter. I have been restricting my nut intake more over the last little while and I never had tons of peanut butter. I think it is interesting that they list sugar free.....there seems to be more and more evidence that sugar free doesn't really help with weight loss.
2 girl it sounds like you have Dr. Rob Thompson's book,,,,,he is the only one I have heard talk about slow twitch muscles. I will go back into my e-mails and see if I can find the e-mail he sent me.
Connie I am thinking meal can't be a problem......would we eliminate oatmeal, cornmeal......all the G.I./ G.L. and low carb advocates use almond meal but not flour. Then would we have to eliminate oat and wheat brans which are also low carb, low g.i., g.l. items. I guess we should write DR. Gott and ask. Do any of you get his column in your papers? |

Meg this is what Dr. Rob said to me: To get my glycemic loads from the ones that confuse you, just multiply by 10. That will approximate mine. I adjusted for American quantities, so the numbers will be a little different even after multiplying by 10. I did this because it makes the glycemic load of a slice of white bread turn out to be 100. That way, everything else can be thought of as a percent of a slice of white bread, which is a good standard. For example, if an apple has a glycemic load of 78, it would raise your blood sugar 78 percent as much as a slice of white bread. You can get some valuable information from the ingredients list. Just remember the number 13. That's how many grams of carbs are in a standard 1 oz slice of bread. Bread gets absorbed faster than virtually any other food, so if something has less than 13 grams of carbs its glycemic load cannot exceed 100. If it has less than 6.5 grams of carbs, it cannot have a glycemic load greater than 50. Get the picture? Good Luck, Rob Meg......from this I understand that looking at the nutritional information we shoudl try to eat things with a carb count under 6.5 to be eating low on the gylcemic load......because the bread at 13 would be high on the gylcemic load.......is that what you think this all means? If you haven't e-mailed him yet (oh I see that you have already) you could cut and paste this for further clarification.
It has been so nice.....snow all gone and today it is cool and snowing.......shoot!!!!
K10,,,,,,,I don't know where his column is seen I have just read about people writing him.....I dont' get the paper either but he wouldn't be in my paper anyways I dont' think.

Fast Twitch Muscles. The purpose of this type of muscle is to provide rapid movement for short periods of time. Fast twitch muscles do not use oxygen - they use glycogen. Reactions using glycogen require anaerobic enzymes to produce power. Glycogen is stored in the muscles and liver and is synthesized by the body using carbohydrates. There are also two types of fast twitch muscles. These two types of fast twitch muscles will function during moderate and maximum muscle effort. Fast twitch muscles provide you strength and speed.
Slow Twitch Muscles. As their name indicates, these fibers have a slower contraction time. Slow twitch muscles use oxygen for power and have a predominance of aerobic enzymes. These types of muscles are large muscles found in the legs, thigh, trunk, back, hips and are used for holding posture.
A quick search produced this, the above. Interesting. |

Bronwyn, according to what he saids in his book, anything under 100 is fine, just try not to go over the 500 mark daily. I'm not sure that a slice of bread would be on the high end since there were other items that were way higher, for example 1 pancake is 346. Maybe the slice of bread is the breaking point of medium to high? Shoot I don't know. I will email him again once I get a response for my first question, that has me curious now.
Debbie, here's what I got out of the book about slow twitch muscles. I am not very good at describing things so bare with me. Like you researched the majority of the slow twitch muscles are used for walking (legs, trunk, thigh...) and when you don't exercise them for 20-40 minutes every 48 hours they go into "hiberate mode" which then your body doesn't respond to insulin properly and slows your metabolism down. So in order to keep these muscles activeated you need to walk every 48 hours or everyday if you are in front of the computer all day like me. He said the best speed is the point before you legs start to ache from walking, so you should not be feeling any pain and should be fairly easy.
k, that's what I got from it anyway, I just got back in from walking 15 min. outside, nice out today I think it's 60 something right now. |

k10, I've got a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's here. Problem is they are both 1-2 miles away and I've got no car. I walk to one or the other ever couple weeks.
Debbie, I read your comment about eating too much hummus right as I finished my last Rice Cake with hummus. Sigh. At least it was lower fat hummus and not my chocolate chips. I also noticed, like Bronwyn that Peanut Butter and Nuts were my only no no on your list. Ok.. and Starbucks. But I get decaf sugar free coffee.
Bronwyn, so, then whole grain flourless bread should be much lower gl then regular bread? I'd be interest to know what a slice of Ezekial bread is. I guess that reasoning is ok. When it comes to fruit though, I can't help but feel it's a bit picky.
Regarding Schwarzbein, I actually started with her diet before the nfns and I felt that the butter was not helping me. I was also making too many treats using honey and agave syrup. When I saw Dr.Gott recommends no sugar in the form of honey, I decided I needed to be a bit more strict and adopted his method. Unfortunately I made the switch only about a month ago and have since had two bad weekends (a wedding and easter). My father though started cutting out processed food a little over two months ago and has lost 40lbs, my mother 20lbs. And my boyfriend lost 40lbs over the course of 2 years just by cutting out sugar.

Husband is bringing home compost and something else to raise the flower bed. It is a huge expanse and when I got all the grass/weeds out, there isn't much left. We have planted several things and so far everything dies out. But this year I found something that will grow...creeping jenny. And I'm edging it with plumbago. Keep your fingers crossed. I need to weed around the bricks, but that is going to have to wait until the weekend.
Bronwyn, sorry about your snow. By the time I get the yard in shape I will have had my fill of the outdoors for awhile. We have high 80's in out forecast...yuck! But then low 80's and I can always be outside mornings only.

I put the chips on the bottom of a 9X13 pan and layered it in the order mentioned. I think I would mix all the ingredients together next time and top it with the cheddar cheese. It was good. I also mixed corn into it. That is what I was having as my side.
I had the stew meat and after 3 days of 100 degree heat stew didn't sound good.
Connie: I am extremely fair as well. I get pink instead of tan. I usually wear white, light weight pants and a gauze type shirt when I go to the beach now. I am covered while remaining cool.
I know someone asked about Megan the other day. I still keep in contact with her on facebook. She is doing well.

I used to tan so well you could see a difference before we even left the beach. My compection is more olivey, although I don't look that way unless compared to a fair person. I don't try to tan any more. I'm too old for that and educated about the evils of the sun. I also can't take the heat. I'm going to remember the white gauzy clothes you spook of K10, for the beach. I'm usually under a beach umbrella anyway while the kids swim. I do like the looks of a tan but its just not worth trying to get. Good to hear about Megan. Tell her Hi from us. Your recipe sounds good. It makes me think of the Taco salad I used to make with Doritos. The kids always loved that. |

Morning. Nose is still running and arms/wrists/hands are sore.
There was an interesting piece on sparkspeople today about having a "cheating day" every week. The replies were more in favor of not doing it. Most people said a cheating day turned into a cheating week. One person said even a bite of something off limits leads to overdoing it. It made me think of you Bronwyn. While reading it, I remembered being in MI and deciding to have one piece of sheet cake. That lead to 3 more. I just need to stay away from forbidden foods. I was resisting/not craving the cake when I hadn't had any. I think I started eating it out of boredom. But then I wanted more in a big way. Do any of you ever eat out of boredom?
K10, that's great that you are still in touch with Megan. I have thought of her often. Is her financial situation improved? She was really living the American recession. Do tell her "hi." |

Hello everyone
Here is what Dr. Rob had to say about my walking question:
They say that 2 separate 15 minute sessions works as well as 30 minutes all at once. However, most of the studies documenting benefits of walking are for 30-40 minutes at once.
So I may try doing the 2 separate 15 min. sessions.
Bronwyn, I was looking at some other websites with glycemic loads for foods and this is what they consider high and low: A GL of 20 or more is high, a GL of 11 to 19 inclusive is medium, and a GL of 10 or less is low. A slice of white bread is 10, so it sounds like white bread is right at the line for low and medium.
Since Dr. Rob basically says everything under 100 (according to his chart) which is a slice of white bread w/13 carbs, I would tend to say he was saying as a guide, anything less than 13 carbs is probably ok. But, I emailed him the question anyway, I will let you know what he has to say.

Meg I believe that Dr. Rob encourages us to eliminate the 3 basic starches......bread, rice and potatoes. I really don't think he was indicating we should eat bread., although he does use some wraps. Meg read page 50...."Strategies for Eliminating "Starchy Fillers". He said there is no such thing as a starch deficiency. Another insteresting thing he says is that your first bite at a meal should not be a refined carb. When your stomach is empty the starch goes directly into your bloodstream causing a big glucose shock and I beleive this is what sets us on the path to over eat. Pass up the bread plate.
Connie i know exactly what you mean about the cake......not bad ot resist it totally but once you get the sugar into your bloodstream or something than you just want more. |

Did any of you go see the Dave Ramsey simulcast tonight? I thought it was really good. He had three basic ideas for us. 1. Take action. Get moving. Talk to everybody. Activity is your answer. Your best chance at success is you. 2.Don't participate in Loser Talk. Be a reader. Read "Who Moved My Cheese?", because America your cheese has been moved. 3. We the people are going to be okay. Learn to give again.Give extra. Give of your time. Take your eyes off yourself.
Fear is the opposite of hope. Learn to say no.Take personal responsibility. Invest in the stock market and real estate. Housing will lead us out of this recession.Real estate is going to be fine. |

Busy day. Decongestants make me a bit shaky, so I worked it off. I finally tackled my closet and bedroom. I threw out some things...I wondered why did I hang on to them? An old bike chain no one could remember the code to, etc.
My diet today was NFNS, but not balanced. I really do bad when it's just me. Let's see, four pieces of cinnamon raisin bread and small plate of nachos and coffee, tea and water. Tomorrow I will make myself eat better...promise!
I canceled my job tomorrow and I'll finish the rest of the house. Today a friend stopped by. She's moved back here (she grew up here) from Oregon for good or temporarily. She's left an abusive relationship and feels up in the air. She's 40 this year and has a 9 month old. We talked for a long time. She cried. Her father passed away just before mine and they were very close, he raised her. Anyway, I hope to help her as much as I can. She doesn't suffer financially, her father left her very well off, but she really has no family and feels alone. And of course the friends she has kept in contact with have grown kids. Her attorney has told her not to buy a house yet, but that makes her feel even more at lose ends. When she was telling me the sad details of her past life, I thought of you 2girls. I don't know why...maybe just the strength we are capable of in the face of relationship crises. I don't want her to go back to him, but I want her to come through this ok. Does that make sense?
Now that I think about it, she was here during dinner time. Maybe I would have ate better if I had an earlier start! Sounds like a good excuse.
Night, talk to you all tomorrow. |

I used to do what Megan is doing. Limit portions. I just let my self get out of control with quantities. For example, if I had a snack of Cheese and Triskets I would only have 4 crackets and 4 slices for cheese to fit the crackets and then stop. It worked as I lost 16 pounds. Why oh why did I stop?
Off to camp today! Happy weekend to you all. Its going to be 80 degrees today. And 60 in the night. |

I loved what Dave Ramsey said about the housing market last night. There is pent-up demand that will cut loose and people will be buying houses in droves. As a Realtor, this gave me hope. The government should have offered the tax credit to ANYONE who bought a home this year, not just the first time homebuyers. There are so many baby boomers wanting to downsize, or move from a 2 story to a ranch. The govt did not listen to the Realtors.I was disappointed he did not address the auto industry. |

Got my hair cut today. I am still a little in shock as she cut off a massive amount of hair. The floor was covered with hair. I have pretty thick hair and they always do way too much thinning on it as well...........hope I can get happy with it soon. I am not sure if I know what a neckline is(but it seems like I have one) but it is a a-line bob with the back feeling about as short as a neckline cut.....YIKES!!! I think we totally miscommunicated on what I was going for. Hair grows....right.....but not much in a week.
Connie your friend is lucky to have a friend like you to talk to. That is such a blessing that her father left her financially secure, so many woman feel they can't leave abusive relationships because they have no money.
Best wishes for a great camping trip Debbie. I know what you mean about the portion control though.....once you slip up and lose that control it is so hard to get it back. I do think that is why there is such a high failure rate on diets is that it is hard to keep things in control and portioned forever. I am not sure what the answer is.

No Excuses anymore. .. Well, except for when it is too hot to walk this summer, but that won't be until mid July.
Bronwyn-is your hair straight? I tried the bob longer on the sides, short in the back. Actually I liked it for awhile. It always looked a lot better coming from the hairdresser. I have a problem with my front tooth. I was at my friends house for dinner. We had steak, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and salad. I kept feeling like I had something on my front tooth. I thought it was a piece of the silk from the corn. I ended up going into the bathroom and tried flossing, then I started looking closer and I realized I have a crack in my tooth going up and down. My front teeth have quite a big space. The crack is on the left front tooth and the crack is on the side toward the middle. I went to a new dentist on Monday, since we have new insurance and the office was quite vintage. The guy was nice enough, but I just didn't like it. So I am hoping nothing happens to my tooth this weekend and I can change who I want to use, on Monday, to my friends dentist she says is fine. It is so frustrating, we had a really modern dentist that had been my daughter's soccer coach and of course he doesn't take my insurance. Even with insurance I know dental things can be so expensive. We can't even afford this at all. Needless to say, I am very stressed right now. Why does it have to be a tooth right in the front??????
What is up with all of us having tooth issues lately?
I will talk to you guys tomorrow, hopefully my tooth stays in place and can easily and cheapily be fixed. |

K10, so sorry about your tooth! Be sure to eat super, super soft foods only. Even then, something might happen. I would stick to a liquid diet. I remember my dentist telling me how patients would complain that they cracked their teeth on a piece of bread, but actually the tooth had cracked sometime before and the bread just happened to be there when the tooth finally gave way. A front tooth does present a problem. If you have to have a crown, the chances are slim it will match the other one in color. People usually have both front teeth done to keep them matching. My husband has one of his front teeth capped and it doesn't match the other one at all. But he isn't ready to cap the other one. One day he will, it's the only way to make them both the same color. Your dentist will be willing to work a payment plan out with you. Almost everyone is unprepared for the high cost of dentistry. They will help you figure out a way to pay for it.
My husband has messed up his back. This is a new injury that happened on his rafting trip. He's laid out on the couch. I just sent my son to gma's for some pain pills. She's got them, I just hope she'll share.
Looks like I'm going to have change my plans for the day. Later |

I don't even remember which on it was. The technology they have these days is amazing. Make sure you get a state of the art, up to date procedure. You will be glad you did.
My camping trip was fast but AWESOME. I love my camper. It is so much better and suited for our needs. We have come a long way since our tent days. Less work more leasure time now. Don't get me wrong, I love all the experiences we had along the way with our tent and pop up and small camper and now bigger camper. I just think now we are where I want to be. Our site was right on the lake. The children fished and played in the water and on the play ground. The weather was 80 Friday and 75 on Sat.
My husband just left to go to Rochester New York. He'll be gone a week. I am so not used to that. I'll be taking care of all 4 kids on my own. I'll be fine but I sure will miss him. At least I don't have a toddler.
I have grandios ideas of sticking to the program and losing 5 pounds by the time he returns. How many times have I started and failed? 202 today

You be strong with your decision to lose 5 lbs! You can do it. Stock that kitchen and don't cheat. If you can stick to NFNS for 3 days straight, you will notice it getting easier. Remember how that happened before? And don't think your missing anything when you stay NFNS...you are not. All the forbidden foods are crap, junk, empty calories that make your body sick and overweight and lazy. It's true. Remember that. After you lose 5 lbs you can always cheat,if you want to, but why would you want to? Check in often and if you feel yourself slipping, get on here fast and let us talk you out of it.
Husband is better. We have decided it's a pulled muscle and it just hasn't healed yet. Or something like that. Tomorrow he needs to see his doc. I hope he can get in.

I went to hear Don Piper speak about his experience this weekend at church. The power of God was just all over that church. He wrote "90 minutes in Heaven".Tonight he was to speak at Mayville Illinois where the pastor was shot in the pulpit a few weeks ago.
He said we should be willing to share our testimonies. Our story may be what someone needs to hear. 1. God answers prayer 2.God is still in the miracle business. We have not because we ask not. 3. Pray with passion. He said all the people who greeted him in heaven were those who had played a part in his spiritual life. He asked the question: Who are you going to greet? Tomorrow it may be on the LaCroix Church website

K10, that's good news about the tooth. What to do about seeing which dentist????? If it were me, I would go with the insurance appointed one. Sadly, it does come down to money. You can google them and see who has the highest recommendations. We have had to switch doctors and dentists, the newness is temporary and the sooner you can establish a relationship with one, the better. You may have to look around, but do the work and get some piece of mind.
The weed eating is done. Now my arms are like rubber! Time to clean up the house. I'm by myself until tomorrow and the neighbor asked me out to dinner. I told her no. I have left overs, she eats out every night. I hope I didn't hurt her feelings. She told me she hates to eat alone. But it is easier for me to eat NFNS at home. We did go out for pizza and I ate a small personal veggie pizza but did good the rest of the week. I did not gain any weight so I am happy. I did come back with a slight kidney infection. I know I did not drink water like I usually do and I drank several green tea drinks that had aspartame in them. I am downing water now and I added a little baking soda so maybe I can flush it out. I had just made the statement last week that I had not had a kidney infection in over twenty years. When am I going to learn not to make comments like that? Sounds like everyone is about the same. The reality is we just can't afford it and my husband and I don't want me to go to work and right now I don't even know what I would do. I am 39 and afraid to tell my parents that we are losing it. We are waiting to hear from the job prospect up in Northern California. We are supposed to know Wednesday. We bought the house from my dad and we got it at a good price, but we blew it and took out way too much money and now can't afford to live here. My dad will be upset, but if we are able to move out of the area that will make it easier. It is in the Lord's hands and we have a Christian agent.
I don't know how I feel. It isn't the house I was raised in or anything, but I think I am kind of numb. I have been NFNS, but I drank a lot of OJ today. I want to get rid of the juice, but not bad enough to dump it down the drain. Please pray for us regarding the job and that the house will sell in a timely matter and that the bank will accept the offer that may come in. Also, that wherever we end up living, that we will have good landlord and neighbors.
Angie: Glad you are back. I remember when we would have to say goodbye to family, it is hard. At least now, with all the modern devices it is easier to keep in touch.

I have an appointment with a woman doctor at 12:30. My last doctor was a woman and I felt secur with her. I hope I will feel the same about this one. I will let everyone know how it goes when I get back. I did some work in the yard this morning and still have some lower back pain. |

Morning. I'm sitting on the front porch drinking my coffee...66 wonderful degrees right now. I haven't decided what to do today, probably some things indoors and outdoors. Rain chances for later. The street I live on is very old and full of huge trees. Trees everywhere. I guess there was a time when having a house built did not mean leveling the lot first. Anyway it is really peaceful watching nature. Lot's of birds to watch.
My heart goes out to you K10. Here you are, another victim of the economic crises we are in. Are you feeling any better now that you have made the decision and said it out loud? I hope so. The guilt youfeel in regards to your dad will get better when you talk to him too.
The family situation of this country is so abysmal it really makes me angry. Most women have to work to support their households. Then, with the mom working, the family suffers and becomes vulnerable to negative influences. Yet, if the mom decides to stay home, the financial burden becomes so huge it risks tearing up the family. As a nation, we do not support stay at home moms. But as a nation, we are destroying the family unit and our future because our children are not being properly raised. It is a sacrifice to stay at home. I just wish our nation would get a better grasp of the big picture.
Hang in there. If there is a will, there is a way. And even though it's hard, try and concentrate on the good things in your life. They should make the other stuff pale in comparison. Really, remember what is important. And hug all your family members until they squeal! That would feel great.
One other thing...and think about this, ok? We should not treat our bodies as a garbage disposal. I read that in fit or fat. And it is absolutely true! If we shouldn't have it, get rid of it. Our bodies are worth more than garbage disposal status.
Angie, time to go to the doc for sure.
Hang in there Bronwyn. |

Wow, Connie, I couldn't have said it better mayself. Although we do risk offending the moms who work by putting it out there so blunt. Please don't think you are not raising good children if you work. Its just the risk of kids getting into trouble rises without parents close by. And some kids with parents close by seem to get into trouble any way. In general I would say staying on top of you children in everything they do is the best way to go. And being a stay at home Mom makes it easier to to just that. We do need to support Moms who stay home because it is a real job and the hardest one I have ever had. Thanks Connie, We need more people to speak up and tell it like it is. |

I certainly did not mean to bash working moms. That's what I was. I worked until the day before delivery with my daughter and returned to work when she was 3 weeks old so we could eat! I guess what I'm saying is, in this country the family is punished whether your a stay at home mom or a working mom. But no matter what, moms should always support each other no matter which course they take. Really, often the decisions are out of their hands.
The older couple I work for has a son that has lived in Norway for many years. He married and started his family there. If a child is sick, the parents are encouraged to stay home. The attitudes toward family are greatly different there. I once saw a piece (on 60 minutes, I think) that told of many educated couples trading in the American dream for the Norwegian dream. Family is valued so much there. The whole pace of life is very different there. Of course, this came with a cut in pay as the taxes there are HUGE! But, what price for family first?
I don't know what the answer is, but a compromise would be nice. |

Angie: I hope your appointment went well.
Connie and Debbie M: I agree with you both. I have many friends that work and it works for some of them and not for others. I have quite a few friends who are teachers and that works well for them. I think though, that when this country started going down hill was when women started working full-time. I really hope this doesn't upset the women that are working or have to work. So many women are working, just so they can have the bigger house or the nicer car, or the better clothes. Especially here in California. Kids are at day care from 6:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. If some of these families really sat down and figured out what they were shelling out in daycare, they may realize that they are in the red. My friend who works part-time doing make-up and facials made around $29-30,000 last year, $14,000 of it went to rent for her room at a salon. She has a 4th grade girl, 8th grade girl and a 9th grade girl. Her husband would really like her to stay home, but she has some issues from when she was growing up and how her mom was. She is so busy all the time and fortunately, I am able to help her pick up her kids and such.
I heard that the majority of teen pregnancies occur between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. After school and before the parent's come home. My mother-in-law went back to work when my husband and his twin were in 8th grade and she has said to me that she wonders if the boys wouldn't have gotten in as much trouble if she had been home? I know what I did when my mom was at work.
All that to say, thanks for the support. I will definitely keep in mind what you said Connie about not treating our bodies like a garbage disposal. I will need to keep that in the front of my mind as I am packing and keeping my house clean for open-houses. My biggest concern right now, is the fear of my pets getting out when agents come here. We were renting a place when it was for sale and we said that we had to be called when they were coming and some would just show up. I wouldn't let them in. I wouldn't put it past them to come in when I am not home. I run errands when my daughter does her home schooling and what if they tried to come in? If we know, we can put the pets in the trailer, which I think we will keep on the property for that reason.
Thanks again. |
