Well, I'm thinking not frozen spinach, maybe , but...... We could freeze the berries and add a little ice. That's what I'll do tomorrow. |

Okay I agree with everyone here.....if we are voting on the grad situations Commencement services are terribly boring and usually very long. We were not invited to any family members High School graduations.....nor have we invited any one to our children's graduations. My youngest sons graduation was so long, tedious, boring and any other negative descriptor you can think of, that after hours my husband, son and his date left before it was done. I agree that he doesn't care if you are there or not....not the commencement services. A long week-end is inappropriate for guests to be expected to attend. That is my 2 cents worth.....going camping!!!! |

I meant.....GO camping.....I am not going camping Listen tell them your NFNS family voted and you are not going to be able to make. Explain that you have planned this long week-end camp trip with your family in February. One other thing to consider.....what would you expect of your sister if the tables were turned.....your son graduating and her family having other plans? If you would be totally okay with her not coming than I think you are good to go. |

Thanks you guys. I did get upset for a while this afternoon but I am OK with it now. We are going to keep with our plans. I asked my sister why she wasn't having the party the day of graduation? She said because it was too short notice. The moment she said that was when I made up my mine we were not going to go to the commencement. If its too short of notice for her to give a party, then its too short notice for me to change my weekend. Thanks for the input girls! |

Connie, Tell me what you have learned about getting rid of the spider veins in your legs. When will you have it done? |

Good morning. I'm hiding from my neighbor...just kidding! I have been so busy over there, and then catching up over here, I'm feeling very unorganized. Let's see, I do have some stuff to do today, daughter can help with it...thankfully. I'll call my neighbor when I get get off from here and I'll be busy again. We are really transforming her yard. Basically, it has gone to weeds, some as tall as trees, and leaves from the last several years everywhere. One of the things we worked on yesterday was her wisteria that was a monster. It had shoots going way across her yard. Yesterday my back was screaming. Today we will finish with the wisteria and then hit another part of the yard. It is going to take several more days. We will get to it all eventually.
I'm weighing in the 143-144 range lately. I have been cooking a lot. Daughter keeps making the NFNS peanut butter cookies and I keep nibbling on them. She isn't ready to give up all sweets. I guess she is craving them. I am so proud of her. She hasn't cheated, never has a pop or fast food. That's a huge change for her. I always have fresh ice tea in the fridge, that helps. And lot's of good food so far.
The spinach in the smoothie is an excellent way to do it. It is so mild. The first one I made was with chard and it was too strong. Also, don't add celery. Even a little makes the whole thing taste like celery, unless your going for a V8 type of a smoothie. When I used celery it reminded me of a bloody mary and I had 3 whole pieces of fruit in it.
I'm having my spider veins removed this Tuesday. Lately I have noticed a couple of varicose veins on each leg. Drat's! That's a much bigger problem. They are going to have to wait until next year.
I hope everyone is doing well and staying NFNS and watching their calories. That's the only way to get the job done. It has been a good lesson for me, working with my neighbor. Her body has "gone to weeds" just like her yard has. We have to work at staying healthy. Lack of effort equals poor health. In her case, extremely poor health. Ok, enough of that! Great day everyone! |

Steve woke me up this morning with a change of heart. He said we are going camping but coming back a day early. He said the Lord put it on his heart that it was the right thing to do. Since his decision I have felt at ease.
Lots to do today, laundry, shopping, packing, paying bills, watering the flowers. Its a good thing I feel energetic today.
Connie, I'm proud of you for helping your neighbor. You are doing God's work. She may thank you but I bet you have no idea how greatful she is. Neighbors like you are what keeps our elderly out of nursing home, which I despise. I understand that in some situations it cannot be helped but we need to do what we can to delay that or avoid it if at all possible.
I have some spots on my legs that really stand out. One little boy a couple years ago asked me what happened to my legs. I told him it was a bruise but I later realized he was talking about my veins. I wear shorts anyway. I remember as a little girl looking at my neighbors legs thinking how gross they were. Now I am that lady. Life is funny that way. |

I am still feeling the power. It is all mine! I'm sure I will stay NFNS. There must be a chemical thing that has happened to me because when I get hungry I am able to make calm, wise choices. It used to be I would get ravenously hungry and grab the first thing. I usually craved the worsth things too. I am so happy to feel how I do now. I hope it lasts. You go Debbie! The power is all yours. All that stress, and you handled it like a pro. Once we make up our mind to be NFNS, there is no other way to eat. Forbidden foods are not an option...we don't even consider them.
My arms are a bit sore. It is going to be awhile before that yard is finished, but we have made a huge start. She is tickled pink! After the beds were cleared, she planted several things. Then she pulled out some adorable ceramic items to place here and there. All these things she has had for years, just unable to do it. My treat for myself is I'm not cooking tonight, left overs. Daughter is determined to stay NFNS, so I'm not sure what we'll do for her.
Tomorrow I'm working. By Sat. I'm going to be laid out! |

Debbie M......i too feel committed and the motivator is that if I don't stay committed.....I will be committed This weight issue is driving me nuts and I want to change things. I am finding doing 2 sets of exercise a day hard.....like I find the first one okay because I dress in my comfortable work out clothes. I just feel like I can't then move on with my day and get dressed because I have one more work-out.
Debbie you are doing the thing that creates family peace and you made it work to do both.
I am teaching a class on summer bean salads. I have a few I already do but now I am motivated to add some new ones. I am cooking some pinto beans (I put some lovely spices in them to cook) and they smell marvelous. I am trying out a Pinto Bean and Cashew salad with brown rice. I will let you know how it is. These are great NFNS things to have in the fridge for lunches. |

You all are doing so well and I am in a funk. I had some cereal today. Not NFNS. It was Special K. I am going to dinner tonight with my friends from church and my closest friend and I are going to share a meal. She is getting a Greek salad and I am getting a veggie taco plate and we will share.
I am going to stop buying chips and crackers. I need to only eat whole foods. Summer is my down fall.
My stomach was bugging me before I ate the cereal and now it is still bugging me, so maybe it will stick in my mind and I won't eat it again. :)
I need ideas for a side dish and dessert that are easy and NFNS. Thanks. |

Sorry about your stomach K10. Do you have a bug or are you worried? Chips and crackers were my downfall too. I over did it. You don't need to stop eating them, just limit what you allow yourself to have. I only let myself have 4 triscuits, for example. I usually eat them with cheese. How nice you get to go out to eat with your friends. I love eating out. My husband complimented me on my resolve to stay NFNS. It was nice. I'll weigh myself after my cycle is over and hopefully I will have lost a little more.
Bronwyn, I laughed out loud when I read your exclaimation of being committed. I'm with you there! Lets stay out og the looney bin and just stick to NFNS. Your salads sound good.

K10, it's ok! Your still adjusting your brain to NFNS. It is a big change from what we all were eating before. It needs a lot of thinking...or I should say, rethinking. That's ok, just make sure you are always learning new ways to make it work. Eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later, you will need to make a 100% commitment to NFNS. It is a step you have to take, and keep on taking, if you want the weight loss that comes from eating this way. Keep in mind, the weight loss may be primary, but the wonderful health benefits should give you extra motivation.
Summer is the best time for NFNS. If I had started this in the fall or winter, I may have had some problems. Right now the produce depts. are filling up with wonderful fresh produce. They can be very satisfying and filling. Let me tell you, before NFNS I often would open a can of green beans or peas. Sometimes I would use frozen, but that was about the extent of my vegetable range. Now, I plan my protein around my veggie dish. I copied a lot of recipes off the internet. Just go looking...you'll find them. Don't be lazy about it...it's fun. Last night we had butternut squash casserole with grilled pork chops and frozen peas. It was so good. I will post the recipe.
Another thing...read, read, read. Overwhelm your brain with positive NFNS messages. Do you have the book? Your body will follow where your brain goes. When I started NFNS I was so happy. Just happy to be doing something smart and right. I knew it was smart and right because my brainiac health nut sister told me it was. So, I didn't doubt it. And it was such a relief to finally know what to do that was good for me. I had no idea if I would lose weight or not, I just knew I finally had a plan for good eating. So I dug in 100% right from the start and I never looked back. I have had YEARS of junk food. Do you know where that got me? Fat and miserable. I don't know, maybe if I felt like the universe hadn't given me my share of junk food I might have resented giving it up. But that was not the case. I had junk food-a-plenty and I was thrilled to give it up!
Do you ever consider the huge downside of empty calories? I really never thought about that before NFNS. Just think...eating calories that do nothing nutritionally for you. And worse, mess with your blood sugar levels. Doesn't that sound like an insanely stupid thing to do? We have to make each and every calorie count. That's where our energy is coming from. If we give up empty calories, we can automatically consume less calories and get more nutrition. Are you feeling the NFNS love yet? Come on, let it all in.
Hope everyone else is having a great night.
Butternut squash cassarole 2 lb butternut squash (1 squash) 1 c sour cream 2 c shredded cheddar cheese (I use 6 oz) 2 Tblsp butter 1/4 c chopped onion 1/3 c parmesan (fresh!) cheese (I use 1/2 c) salt
Fork squash and microwave in 40 sec intervals until softened enough to cut. Cut in half, discard pulp. Cube into 1 inch pieces and peel. Bring to a boil, boil for 8-10 min. Drain, mash well. Add remaining ingredients. Bake in a shallow baking dish for 25-30 min.

Angie I have to be adding more tumeric to my food (it is suppose to help with memory) I can't even remember saying anything about "lets do lunch:. Thanks for the tip.....I am so excited about doing this class because I am such a bean "evangelist" Beans are a fabulous way to get fibre into our diets. The salad was really good.....my problem is that I am inspired by recipes but I never follow them (lots of changes). The only problem is the onion I used was really strong and I am now trying to pick that out of my serving.
I LOVE WHOLE FOODS....I love good wholesome food. I don't eat packaged stuff hardly at all (Ezekial products and so forth excluded). I found Ezekial spaghetti......very expensive. I will let you know how it is. Tonight I had the pinto bean/cashew/brown rice salad and a green smoothie. I feel like super woman
K10 do you have allergies...or food sensitivities. You have a lot of stomach distress. You know for IBS one of the best things you can do is add fibre to your diet......just wondering what we can figure out for you to help you feel better.
Connie what did you serve with the squash dish?

Ladies, thank you so much for the encouragement. I appreciate it and look forward to it. My friend and I did share meals tonight. We then went to our friends house where she had a homemade strawberry cake. I had one tiny bite. I know I shouldn't have had any, but it is amazing how much pressure you can feel when someone has taken the time to make something for everyone. I savored that bite and didn't even desire more.
I tried some hot tea tonight, I still don't like tea. Hot, iced, whatever. I am going to try it one more time at my friends house on Monday. I am going to try a green tea with lemon in it. My friend says she needs to use sweetener, but if I am going to drink tea for health benefits then I don't want to add artificial sweetener to it.
I find that my stomach bothers me when I try to add fiber. I also think it may have to do with stress. What is hard is I want to eat more veggies and beans, but they seem to cause me tummy aches. I think I will eat one fiber filled veggie or bean dish per day and see if I do that for a week if I will get used to it. Then add more each following week.
A couple of years ago I had this problem with no matter what I ate or how small the amount I felt like I had been to a giant buffet. A tiny bowl of Cherrios made me stuffed. I had a CT scan, endoscopy (tube down throat) and they never found out what it was. It all a sudden corrected itself and I only have had one time when I felt like I may have started to get it. I told my aunt about it and she said it sounded like a condition my uncle had had. Gastroparesis is what it is called, it is when you have delayed stomach emptying. I would feel full all the time, but I knew I had to eat. I lost quite a bit of weight 15 pounds or so, but I was so bloated I had to wear the same size pants and they had to be elastic.
Signs and symptoms of gastroparesis are:
heartburn * pain in the upper abdomen * nausea vomiting of undigested food—sometimes several hours after a meal early feeling of fullness after only a few bites of food * weight loss due to poor absorption of nutrients or low calorie intake * abdominal bloating * high and low blood glucose levels lack of appetite * gastroesophageal reflux spasms in the stomach area Eating solid foods, high-fiber foods such as raw fruits and vegetables, fatty foods, or drinks high in fat or carbonation may contribute to these symptoms. ***these are the symptoms I had. The symptoms of gastroparesis may be mild or severe, depending on the person. Symptoms can happen frequently in some people and less often in others. Many people with gastroparesis experience a wide range of symptoms, and sometimes the disorder is difficult for the physician to diagnose. More common in diabetics.
The foods they want you to eat when you have this condition are:
Eating foods that are low in fat. Fat slows down the digestion of foods.
Eating foods that are low in fiber. High fiber foods are harder to digest. Avoid foods such as figs, berries, apples, oranges, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and green beans.
Eating several small meals each day, instead of large meals. Small meals may be easier for you to digest.
Eating meals slowly, and completely chewing your food. This may make it easier for your stomach to digest the food.
Eating liquid or blenderized meals until your gastroparesis is controlled. Blenderized meals are made of foods that are thinned in a blender. Liquid or blenderized meals may be easier for you to digest. A nutrition shake (pre-made, or mixed yourself) is an example of a liquid meal. A blenderized meal can be made by mixing solid foods with healthy liquid in a blender. Ask your caregiver for more information about a blenderized diet.
Sit up for at least one hour after eating, instead of lying down, or exercising right away. This may help digestion.
I was never diagnosed buy I had some similar symptoms. This is common in diabetics because of damage to the vagus nerve because their diabetes.
I can't find it now, but a lot of the things that I was told to eat were things like white bread, crackers, pasta (regular) potaoes. Lots of white foods. Pancakes and waffles etc. Not NFNS that is for sure. I do sometimes wonder about it.
Makes me wonder what I should do sometimes???? I think NFNS is best for me. I will figure this out.
Good night

My goodness K10, thats terrible. Maybe its time for a trip to the gastrointerologist. Are you diabetic? This is the first condition that I have ever heard of that actually recommends white foods. heh And here on a NFNS board, go figure! Boor babe. I hope it gets better soon.
Good job on resisting the cake!
The one tea I thought was better than most was green tea with blueberry. I went thru the whole box and now I can't find more. Green tea alone is not very good to me but they make a lot of different green teas now with different flavors added. I found three different ones at Aldi that I have yet to try.
Connie, that butternut squash sounds good, Thanks for the pep talk. I can always use encouragement. You are like our little cheerleader. Grilled pork chops and frozen peas went with the squash.
That reminds me of something my grandma used to do. She would eat frozen peas, literally, she shake a little slat on them and eat em frozen. THey were a treat at her house and delicious. Sounds wierd but true.
Thanks for the camping well wishes. We will be shoving off in about 6 hours. Sat night my Mom invited us to her camp for home made german potato salad and BBQ ribs. I am going to have to eat that. I won't put any extra sauce on them and she probably won't use much anyway. Other than that I have planned my NFNS diet and ready togo. I found a couple little articals that were really encouraging yesterday. They could help us ward off emotional eating. Here they are.
WOULD YOU ALLOW SOMEONE TO BUY YOU OFF WITH FOOD?
By Michelle May, M.D.
Angela recently shared this amazing insight and I asked her permission to share it with you. I hope it will help you see your eating from an entirely different perspective!
"I've noticed that sometimes when I am feeling resentful about something, I reach for food as a sort of compensation for having had to put up with the source of the resentment.
"Once I realized this particular trigger, it struck me as totally absurd! If someone offered me food under those terms, I would NEVER accept it. Just imagine someone saying, 'Listen, I've decided to treat you unfairly on this issue, but I'm happy to buy off your bad feelings with this plate of goodies.' I can think of several impolite responses that I might choose...but there's no way I'd accept food in return for being taken advantage of! I would be offended that someone would even make such an offer. And yet, that's precisely what I'm doing each time I feel resentment and reach for food to soothe myself.
"Now that I realize what I am really doing, I'm going to be more careful to avoid such situations and when necessary, assert my right to fair treatment. I know that I have better coping skills than eating, if I just remember to use them."
The next time you find yourself reaching for food to soothe a hurt, an insult, or an injustice, ask yourself, if this person offered me food to make up for it, would I take it?
MEETING YOUR TRUE NEEDS
When I'm hungry, I eat what I love. When I'm bored, I do something I love. When I'm lonely, I connect with someone I love. When I feel sad, I remember that I am loved.
So I ask you, in addition to food, what else do you love?
Eat Mindfully. Live Vibrantly! Michelle May, M.D.
Have an AMAZING weekend NFNS girls. BE awesome!!~

K10, I hope you feel better. Maybe it's time for a colonoscopy as well. Keep in mind, fruit has more fiber than veggies. Much more usually. And try not to blame it on stress. Stress affects us I know, but if there is something wrong blaming stress will only prolong an accurate diagnosis.
Bronwyn, you really should write a cookbook! With the price of beans being a good value, and economic times being what they are, you could write one on how to eat well on a budget. Believe me, that would fly off the shelves. It sounds like a perfect project for someone like you.
Have a great time Debbie.

K10 I am not a Dr. so.....but hey how much nutritional training do Drs. have....anyways take what I say with a grain of salt. I do NOT believe that any health issues are resolved with nasty food. When my husband was undergoing front line double high dose chemo together with the stem cell transplant, I was so dismayed by the visits we had from the nutritionist at the cancer centre. I was also appalled at the food they served him to eat. Everyday I spent the majority of my day at the hospital and then I would come home and make nutritious good food to haul up to the hospital for him to eat. I don't go in elevators as I am claustrophobic. He was on the 5th floor and he could hear me panting down the hall after my climb with food, clean blankets and so forth. He developed a problem with the linens at the hospital. I felt so guilty warming up the food from home and then seeing what the other patients were eating. Mind you I still had 3 kids at home and was stressed to the max just doing what I could to keep things going at home and be with my Jim at the hospital.
Debbie M......I get Michelle May in my mailbox as well. Her articles are good.
Connie when you go off to work, does that mean across the street to work on your sons house? How soon will he be moving in? I was so disappointed last night I went to get some sunspire chips to make cookies and the store no longer carries that brand. You can still buy them there can't you?
Anyways K10....it isn't a gastrointestinal kind of thing I was dealing with so I don't know. I just want you to eat as healthy as you can because I truly believe that is the best way to fight any disease or health problem. I understand that celiacs disease is way under diagnosed. Some of the things you describe should like they could be celiac or IBS. I do think you should have a really good physical and ask your Dr. about celiac and IBS.....check those out as well. |

She has been doing NFNS and calorie watching and exercising for almost 2 years. She has gone from a 14 to a 4-6. So great for her. Anyway these clothes are 10's and there is an adorable skirt that I can wear tonight. Lucky me!
The reception tonight will be my main meal today. I hope I can find things I can eat. That would be nice. I'll snack a bit before just in case.
K10, good news about your mother in law. I have had a lot of invites as well. I've been writing checks like crazy! A lot of them are coming from out of state, so an appearance isn't required. Thank goodness. I'm good for about one event a week!
Time to get moving again. My neighbor put some more bedding plants in this morning. It is looking so good over there. What a wonderful thing...to look out your window and see beauty. Our neighborhood is old and the trees are huge. I am very grateful for that. The new subdivisions look so bare.

Debbie M.....I know you are away for the week-end but I thought this fly lady article was quite good and that you may miss it. When you move down in weight and hold on to old clothes, I guess that is kind of like saying well "just in case".....I know I have clothes in a few sizes. I did read the body clutter book but I didn't really relate to it and, I don't even know if I finished it.
Fly lady said: Elastic is not our friend! It doesn't bring our Body Clutter to our attention! That little uncomfortable feeling in our jeans should be just the call to action we need to take the babysteps to declutter. I am not talking about crash dieting either. Those don't work any better than crisis cleaning. Oh yeah they will help you lose the weight to get into that wedding dress or bathing suit but after you accomplish your unrealistic goal; the weight will come back and more to boot! We don't need any more weight in our boots.
Here is what we can do to address our Body Clutter.
1. Don't wear clothes with elastic or drawstrings. 2. Weigh every day! This tells you how your body reacted to what you did yesterday! 3. Never crash diet! 4. Eat 3 meals a day and 3 snacks. Eat something good for you every two hours. 5. Babystep your way out of drinking regular or diet sodas. Replace with water. 6. Do 15 minutes of loving movement each day! 7. Drink 8 glasses of water. This is so simple and it is the best beauty treatment you can do! 8. GET RID OF YOUR FAT CLOTHES!
Body Clutter is not just the cellulite on our thighs, it is the negative thinking we have between our ears. When we look at our relationship with food, we will begin to eat and move to bless our bodies. We have been indulging our little princess for a long time! You would not allow your children to eat like you do or be sedentary! It is time to go out and play!

I loved that post Bronwyn! Good advice...If I were eating three meals a day and 3 snacks a day, I would really be watching those calories. I would definitely be keeping count. It would be easy to eat too much doing that. However, if you planned it right, it may the best way to lose weight. I keep reading how breaking up our calories beyond 3 meals a day is the way to go for some people. Also, maybe taking the same approach to exercise. Say, three 10 min workouts a day.
By the way, I meant to comment on your exercise dilemma the other day. I remember being frustrated with afternoon workouts and the showering/clothes changing/hair fixing problem. I think I just did the best I could. My hair was probably au natural (not a good look usually) most of the time and I just tried not to worry about it.
The wedding last night was wonderful. I thought the skirt had white in it, but it was cream. I didn't have a cream top so I couldn't wear the skirt. I was digging around in my closet and found a dress I forgot I had bought on sale. It was better than the skirt. It was longer and really pretty. My make up and hair were at their best and we were off. I saw many people I haven't seen since starting NFNS. Everyone was amazed. Everyone kept telling me how beautiful I was and what was my secret. To be honest, it was embarrassing after awhile. But I felt great. My husband wasn't sure what to think. When we were leaving he said he wanted to lose 10 lbs and he might join the road series again. I'm glad that is over, the seeing of all our old friends. I hope the ones that want to lose weight will look into NFNS. I did not have cake!
Rain here today. I good time to stay inside and watch movies I think. |

Connie I too feel that if you are going to be eating really frequently that it would be easy to eat too many calories. I have read both sides of the argument, eating frequently and only eating 3 meals a day. There are points that make sense on both sides and I am not sure what to think. The frequent eating group's claim is that small frequent meals rev our metabolism. I have also read other people's thoughts that the idea is bunk and just keeps people eating and eating. What are we to think? I guess it just depends on what works for each of us, eh!!! I do think some of her points were helpful and I am undecided on the meal frequency. I keep leaning towards the need to count calories......

We had a good weekend (I should still be there) but its good to have a day to uncamp and mow the lawn and water my flowers. We will just hang around today. Its going to be about 70 perfect drgrees. Its breezy and lovely. I stayed NFNS accept St night I had 3 small handfulls of Nacho cheese Doritos. They bloated up my gut the next day. Boy did they taste good. The are pure EVIL. Naughty me. My husband saw what I was doing and just took the bag and put them away. My hero!~ I really missed all you girls. It great to be in this group with such awesome women.

Morning. My daughter had my lap top most of yesterday so I couldn't get on! I stayed busy most of the day. She did see me all dressed up. It is hard for her in a way, our body types are so different. But, she would be much happier with herself if she could get some of her weight off. She has stuck to NFNS so well. She does have cravings, but then she just makes something with truvia. Last night she made Bronwyn's 3 minute chocolate cake. It was extremely satisfying. Anyway, I'm just really proud of her. I have had to cook every night, not a bad thing, but sometimes I would just rather have a bowl of cereal.
143.4 this morning. And that is after eating very good all week. I can't complain. At the wedding, I didn't eat cake. But I did eat something that wasn't NFNS. They served dressing and gravy and cranberry sauce. That is my all time favorite combination. I only had 3 spoonfuls and savored each bite. Then I did a little bit of dancing (slow dancing) and we called it an early night. In a way, hearing all the comments was hard on my husband...just a little.
Remember awhile back I mentioned I was in battle with my husband? Well, some of those old friends we saw at the wedding were part of the problem. They wanted to have a party every weekend and drink too much. They are crazy about my husband who was always the life of the party (until we got home and then he became someone else entirely) and I was the "B." Long story short, they really would have been fine with him leaving me, but when the dust settled, he stayed with me and quit partying with them. There were about 12 people in the "group." Eventually, the group more or less disbanded. But a lot of them were at the wedding. I do think my husband was a bit torn, I know he has some resentment about my forcing him away from those people. A few were very good friends. But it is what it is and he could have chose them if that was more important.
Today, menu planning/grocery list work to be done. It's time for some yummy fresh veggie dishes. Steamed broccoli, zucchini gratin... Yum! But tonight we will be having steaks and baked potatoes. Life is good on NFNS! |

Connie it is interesting how groups of friends and interests change. Obviously, that group of friends didn't bring out your husbands best qualities. I always say friends are friends and they have an important place in our lives (if they are truly good friends......good friends don't encourage you to do destructive things) BUT, family comes first. If a friendship hurts the most important unit,,,,,your family or most importantly the relationship with your spouse than they aren't friends. I think that was so nice for you to be able to be there feeling so good and looking so great. I also would like to have an embarrassing time like that, with all the compliments about how good I was looking
Hilda I would like to read that article in People's I will have to look for it next grocery shopping trip. We don't go to movies very often, we tend to buy them when they come out on DVD. I think the last movie I saw in the theatre was "7 pounds" and it is now out on DVD. If you didn't see "7 pounds" I think you would find it quite moving.
Debbie M. you are doing so awesome.....I am inspired by your stick-to-it-ive-ness (I am sure that is a word You are really having those heady moments....over and over!!!!

Hello girls. It sounds like things are going well for all of you.
Connie: I am glad you felt so good on your night out and that the "friends" didn't influence your husband. Tell your daughter we are proud of her. Debbie: Way to go on your trip, I am glad your husband helped you by taking away the chips. Bronwyn: Good job planning the planning. I need to do that. Hilda: I haven't been to the movies lately, so I wouldn't know what to recommend.
I would suggest Taken on DVD with Liam Neeson, it is intense.
We were at a party last night with some friends from high school. Kind of a Facebook reunion party. I can't believe how many people drink and smoke and they are in their 40's. We were there for 2 hours drinking our waters. There was a guy who I lived around the block from as a kid. People from junior high too. There was a girl there that was always quite slutty and she looked the same. There was a girl there too that was really cute and now she is so thin she looks sick. She may be, but she didn't look good. Some sad situations too. It sure makes me grateful for what I have in my marriage and children. Even though we are going through a tough time right now financially, I still feel like I have a great thing.
We had a church picnic yesterday and I brought a chopped salad. I did buy Hidden Valley Ranch dressing because I wasn't sure what I was going to bring or is it take, until the last minute. I have another BBQ today. I am bringing/taking a fruit salad and veggies.
I will talk to you all later. Happy Memorial Day. If you have any military in your family, please tell them I appreciate their service to our country.

For the firt time since Steve's gastric bypass I am within 20 pounds of his weight. He is at 173.5 today and I was at 192. He was close to 250, I'm guessing, when we got married and I was about 145. It just tickled me to be only 19.5 more than him. I will keep on trying to close the gap and eventually get smaller than he is.
June 13th is our family reunion in Mo. It will feel very good to be a little thinner especially on that day.
K10 we must have posted at the same time. I don't know about any movies lately either. When we go to the movies, we see older releases at the dollar theater. Can't remember the last one.
Bronwyn, Are you losing? I hope so. I loved the artical from FlyLday. She is so sensible. Maybe that is where I heard to weigh everyday. Her advise just gets stuck in my head sometimes. You are right about planning in advance for your meals. Its the sure path to success. If I hadn't been supplied with food ideas on our camp trip I would have caved in more than once. Hilda I would like to see that artical about the 140 lighter Doc. Thats a great testamony.
I found out yesterday that yet another woman had been praying for me along with her whole chruch before my surgery last year. That makes about 4 or 5 states that prayed. I know the Lord was with me on that day because I was so peaceful. I usually get panicky before a surgery and cry a lottle but not this time.
I had a couple Peach flavored Snapples over the weekend. I wanted something more than water so I had those. I didn't want the aspertame that was in it because I think the absence in it from my diet has made a difference. I loved the taste though.
Happy Memorial Day to you all.

Tomorrow is the big day. The spider vein removal. I was reading my pre instructions. Tomorrow I will coming home in bandages and super support hose. I had to find some short shorts to wear. I didn't have any, short or otherwise as I haven't worn shorts in years. But then I remembered my old running garb. I found the perfect shorts and a pair of baggy nylon pants to wear as well. But here's the great part, everything fit and in fact, was loose! When I ran I weighed 133, but the fit is the same. Yee haa! Woo hoo! Then there's no heavy lifting, keep feet elevated when possible, etc. I am ready to have this done and over with. |

I have stayed within my calorie range on Sparks people (high end but within the range), I did 50 minutes on my exercise bike, and I stayed NFNS. I am just going to post a clip from the Drs. comments in case you don't find them. I think this was very good and practical advise:
"What advice would you have for someone who is just starting his or her healthy journey? Birdie: If you have a significant amount of weight to lose, it's very easy to lose motivation. When you lose 30 pounds and no one notices, it hurts. It's frankly not very satisfying if you are looking for reinforcement from others. So it's important for your motivation to come from within. Know that for every day that you have stayed within your calorie limits, you have used a little of your fat stores.
The scale is only a guide. If you stayed within your calorie range, you did not deposit any new fat on your body. Tell yourself that the scale can sometimes hold on to extra water, leading you to think that you are not making any progress. Before you go to bed, pat yourself on the back and tell yourself, "I stayed within my calorie range today; therefore I did not gain any fat." Tell yourself that and stay on plan, and before you know it you will have arrived at your destination.
I also want to say that you will fall. You will binge. The scale will go up and down. But, if you get right back on plan, the bumps are temporary and the ultimate trend will be down.

I know you can get olive oil where ever you get regular cooking oil. Like canola or vegetable oil. Try to keep olive oil in your pantry and use it whenever you can instead of any other oil. It is the one oil that helps increase your good cholesterol. I have never used coconut oil or butter but I bet if it's not refrigerated, it will be in with the other oils. Other wise look with the butter and margerine.
Is this recipe posted above? I'd like to try it too. |

Is this it?
Nikki's Healthy Cookie Recipe You can use unsweetened carob, or grain sweetened chocolate chips, or do what I did and chop up 2/3 of a bar of Scharffen berger 70%. I sort-of shaved half the bar with a knife and then cut the rest into bigger chip-sized chunks. You can make your own almond meal by pulsing almonds in a food processor until it is the texture of sand - don't go too far or you'll end up with almond butter. And lastly, the coconut oil works beautifully here, just be sure to warm it a bit - enough that it is no longer solid, which makes it easier to incorporate into the bananas. If you have gluten allergies, seek out GF oats.
3 large, ripe bananas, well mashed (about 1 1/2 cups) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 cup coconut oil, barely warm - so it isn't solid (or alternately, olive oil) 2 cups rolled oats 2/3 cup almond meal 1/3 cup coconut, finely shredded & unsweetened 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon fine grain sea salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 6 - 7 ounces chocolate chips or dark chocolate bar chopped Preheat oven to 350 degrees, racks in the top third.
In a large bowl combine the bananas, vanilla extract, and coconut oil. Set aside. In another bowl whisk together the oats, almond meal, shredded coconut, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until combined. Fold in the chocolate chunks/chips.The dough is a bit looser than a standard cookie dough, don't worry about it. Drop dollops of the dough, each about 2 teaspoons in size, an inch apart, onto a parchment (or Silpat) lined baking sheet. Bake for 12 - 14 minutes. I baked these as long as possible without burning the bottoms and they were perfect - just shy of 15 minutes seems to be about right in my oven.
Makes about 3 dozen bite-sized cookies.

I read the 140 pound weight loss story. So inspiring. K10, those scales do move around a bit. And I agree with Bronwyn that you sounded in control of the foods you ate. I can't criticize you for being so strong, but I wish for you weight loss and I think that comes from saying "ENOUGH!" No more little cheats, no more too many calories...no way, no how. That day will come.
The Nikki's cookies taste a ton better with coconut butter. You will have to go to a health food store to get it, and the grain sweetened chocolate as well.

K10 and Debbie M......I have only ever used the coconut butter in Nikki's cookies.....but the recipe itself doesn't specify that. Connie did try them with butter and thought it was better with the coconut butter. The only brand of coconut butter I have ever seen is Artisana. That was the same brand that Connie found in her stores as well. The only brand of chocolate chips that I know of that are grain sweetened are Sunspire. In the way of warning the coconut butter is ....stupid expensive. You only use 1/4 of a cup and so it makes the jar last long in that respect. I would bet that Trader Joes's or Whole foods would have it. I only find it at health food stores here. I am wondering though about using butter (much cheaper) and coconut flavouring......just a thought.
Debbie I would never cook with olive oil. Olive oil should not be heated....it changes it and makes it unhealthy. You will hear differently from other people....it is one of those things of who should you believe (confusing I know) but I am going with the belief that olive oil should not be heated. I will send you a link about the concerns of heating olive oil.
Glad it is all over Connie....take it easy.
Today:......road my stationary bike 1 hour (did you hear that).....I am not going to confuse myself with the 2 exercise thing. I work hard and I need a shower after my work out and then I want to get dressed and fixed up. So far I have eaten an Ezekail muffin with crem cheese and jam. Lunch will be a Lima Bean salad and green smoothie. Debbie M.....do you hear the heady power in this paragraph |

NOTE this is only one of many people's opinion on the subject and take from it what you want (there are two sides of opinion to every issue....we have to decide for ourselves):
Anytime you cook a food you run the risk of creating heat-induced damage. Well, suppose there was a type of oil that is stable enough to resist heat-induced damage and so beneficial that it helps you lose weight, promotes heart health and helps to maintain normal cholesterol levels. Would you choose to use this oil?
If you said yes then you will want to get some coconut oil today. Naturally, when choosing an oil to cook with you want an oil that will not be damaged by high cooking temperatures. Of all the available oils, in my opinion, coconut oil is the oil of choice for cooking because it is nearly a completely saturated fat, which means it is much less susceptible to damage when it is heated.
Although mainstream media portrays olive oil as the healthiest oil, this title does not extend to cooking. Olive oil is primarily a monounsaturated fat. This means that it has one double bond in its fatty acid structure. Although a monounsaturated fat is inherently more stable than a polyunsaturated fat, the overabundance of oleic acid in olive oil creates an imbalance on the cellular level, which has been associated to an increased risk of breast cancer and heart disease. Olive oil is a smart fat to include in your diet in a non-heated form, however.
In my opinion, polyunsaturated oils, which include vegetable oils like corn, soy, safflower and canola, are the worst oils to cook with because of the trans-fatty acids introduced during the hydrogenation process, which results in increased dangers of chronic diseases such as breast cancer and heart disease.
As you can see in the chart below, coconut oil contains the most saturated fat of all edible oils. Don't be scared away by the negative view of 'saturated fat' portrayed by the media. Many studies have shown that a low-fat diet is not the answer for preventing heart disease, and some scientists are calling for new dietary guidelines that reflect this discovery. To really understand the benefits of saturated fat, I suggest you read Dr. Mary Enig and Sally Fallon's article "The Truth About Saturated Fat" to first dispel any lingering notions you may have that all saturated fats are dangerous. |

My personal experience: I am significantly overweight, I have a genetic predisposition to having high cholesterol and high blood pressure......I have none of that. My blood work is excellent.....the Dr. is always amazed by my blood work. I am very careful about the oils I use. I don't use a lot of oil but I use very high quality oils. I don't buy canola oil at all. I use coconut oil for sauteing or making popcorn (high quality coconut oil), I use olive oil for dressings and anything that isn't going to be cooked. Another oil for cooking with is grape seed oil. Again any of this is just simply a personal decision. |

Bronwyn: Now I am confused more than ever. We use olive oil all the time in cooking and in salad dressings. I just recently saw grape seed oil at Sam's Club and I wondered about it, because it was cheaper than olive oil, I thought it might not be as good for you. You know how it is the healthier the food the more it costs. Why does this all have to be so complicated? Do you have to buy coconut oil in health food stores? Do you use butter?
I had oatmeal with raisins and cinnamon and a touch of milk for breakfast. I just had a pluot for a snack. It had a bruised yucky spot so I stopped eating it. |

K10...sorry I am kind of a nut this way....my passion is researching and studying nutrition. That doesn't mean I am an expert or that I am always right. I definitely use butter and never margarine.....butter is natural. I don't use tons of any oils or fats....I try not to. K10 google, "The World's Healthiest Foods" and click into "Why I never use olive oil for cooking"...that is another source. Don't get me wrong...Olive oil is a very healthy oil....just not heated and there are people who would disagree with me on that. My friend who is a Chef says that there are heating-olive oils and non-heating olive oils. You will even see that on olive oils now on the shelf. I think there are better oils to heat. Grape seed oil has a relatively high smoke point. I agree it is a very confusing thing and over-all it has nothing to do with NFNS. NFNS promotes artificial sweeteners...and I have decided not to use those. I just think anything can be made even healthier. This is my obsession though so don't let me confuse me.....honest!
You know the Dr. who lost 140 lbs. lost it eating frozen dinners and selective fast food. That was what worked for her. I am not interested in that type of eating.

Daughter made me the 3 min chocolate cake this afternoon. She also made whipped topping from heavy cream and truvia. Then she added crushed pineapple to it. That was soooo good. Very chocolaty, and the toppings made it refreshing. I am so hooked on those cakes! I like them better than Nikki's cookies.

Looks like we are winging it for dinner. Husbands out of town and no one feels like cooking. Whatever we end up with it will be NFNS. |

Connie do you have some sprouted wraps.....if so have your daughter make roasted red pepper hummus wraps with avocado, tomato, cucumber and a little cheese if you want. |

Did someone post the no flour 3 min choc cake? I must have missed it. I could make that for my mom if it is gluten free. |

Hilda there are lots of variations on the 3 minute cake. I will figure out the calories and see but here a similar ones nutritional profile.....it uses less coconut butter and only egg whites.....that could maybe work as well.....was only 138 calories. The one I do would be higher but I might cut down some things and see how that works.
I am going to go and watch the Good Morning America segment.

Can't sleep. Just got out of bed again. Bronwyn you up? Has anyone seen the movie Slumdog Millionair? I borrowed it from my neighbor. Violent and disturbing but put together in an interesting way. I'm eating a carrot. I was hungry but didnt want a lot of calories.

hmmm....yes I am up and I as well can't sleep. After I tossed and turned, tossed and turned and then tossed and turned some more I decided to give up any hopes of sleeping. I went into a spare bedroom and read for a couple of hours and although I got tired of that I still couldn't sleep. I have Jimmy legs.....isn't that what you called it Debbie? The name is much more humorous than the problem.
Yes I saw Slumdog Millionaire as well. I can not imagine living in such filth and poverty. Those children actually lived in those shanty towns. The movie made me sad but I thought it was interesting how they pulled the story together through the playing of the game.
I just had a half a cup of plain yoghurt....I heard calcium helps jumpy legs.....but it has never really worked before. I ate NFNS but I didn't record my calories today (well actually yesterday) I also exercised. I find it such a hassle to weigh, measure and record but I need to do that. It just seems tedious and time consuming.
Well I need to be up in about 3 1/2 hours....guess I will try again.....4:13 here!!!! |

The article must be in the People magazine with Bristol Palen on the cover. That's the one they showed in the video. I thought the video was very good. I liked the idea that the doctor did not spend any money and used Sparkspeople. I have read bad things about LA Weight Loss. Had never heard of T Tap. |

I went to LA Weight Loss. It was a couple years ago. I don't think it is a bad plan. I gave them my money. Saddly. I lost 16 pounds and then petered out. Money down the drain there. Now the business is out of town. I love that NFNS with Dr. Gott cost me nothing but the book. IT was worth the money to read it. Although it can be read from the library. I also Did Nutribolic 20 years ago. I started at a meer 163 and lost 20 pounds. And I've done Weight Watcher a couple times. Well tried WW a couple times. Never got into it. What a pain to measure, weigh and count this and that. I have such a good thing going now with NFNS I have momentum and the season of sunshine is upon us. Bronwyn I think its great that you are exercising. It seems like the key to your boosting your metabolism. The weight I am right now is the lowest I've been in years, even with my loss from last year (and subsequent gain) So when I get into the 180's I want to reward myself with sommething. Maybe lighlight my hair. But it has to be a for sure 180's not just fleeting for a day. Come on girls~~Lets roll!! |

There is a link on sparkpeople that will take you the good morning america interviews with the weight loss ladies. I watched it this morning and it was so motivating! I went on line and looked up T Tapp, I have already ordered the dvd. It sounds right up my alley!
The 3 minute chocolate cake is so good. I think I can add those calories once a week and be ok. I am interested in a lower calorie version. If you come up one with one Bronwyn, please let me know. Thanks.
My legs feel fine this morning Sleeping in these support hose is very strange! I was sliding all over the bed. Today I get to take off the bandaides. Then back on with the hose. They pull on my toes, it's hard to get hose long enough in the legs for me. I will be so glad when I can take them off on Fri.
Lot's do today. Later ladies! |

There is a second video called 100 Pounds and Counting on the same three women. The website also had lots of good info on Alzheimers that I had never seen before. |

Break time. I just had an apple with a couple of slices of thin colby jack cheese. Yum! The apple was tart and the cheese made it go down better.
Debbie, I have heard some terrible things about LA weightloss. I'm glad you had some success and got something out of your money.
Bronwyn, you sound very committed. Maybe the recording of calories will only be temporary. I imagine in time you'll be able to roughly guess well enough to skip the actual calculating. |

The thing about weighing everyday is that you get continual feed back about what you are doing, calorie wise. It seems if the scale starts going up you know you are doing something right. If you see the scale going down you know you are doing something right. I don't want a month going by and then find out I wasted my time.
I have lidocaine on my daughters ears to numb them. She is begging me to pierce them. I'll be doing it in about an hour. Wish me luck. I've pierced ears in the salon before but never just with a needle. I'm a little nervous but we won't tell my 11 year old that. I'll let you know how it goes. |

Great Scott Debbie! You couldn't pay me to do that to someone. Jeez!!!!! I hope it goes well. Bronwyn left me a message on NFNS, I think she tried to post a link on here and now she's kicked off for awhile. Debbie and Bronwyn, no more trying to post those things...then you can't get back on and we miss hearing from you.
Did I mention I pulled off 87 bandaides? My legs are scary looking...but soon they will be so much better. My guess is she poked me about 250 times. If you have spider veins, don't wait until you have a ton of them before you go to get them removed. |

Hello everyone.....I haven't been on for such a long time. I was thinking of all of you and I peeked in and had to smile....same good friends...lots of information and my goodness....you are all going through so much. Hi Connie....good luck with your recovery and Debbie....ooh, the piercing thing. My friend pierced my ears when I was 16 years old...numbed them with an ice cube...stuck a potato behind my ear to catch the needle and put a piece of broom-straw through the holes to keep the holes open. Of course, they got infected and are a little uneven but we were young and stupid...oh yeah, I also got punished for a month because my parents had told me that I couldn't get my ears pierced. I'll check in later. Bye! |

Hello everyone. Including Debster, welcome back.
Debbie: I can't believe you pierced your daughters ears. I would not be able to do it.
My step-mom is awesome. She came over today and gave me a check for my oldest to go to camp. Her birthday is in July and so is camp. Of course, my youngest said, "I only got a caligraphy set for my birthday." Uncooth for sure. Grandma told her, "you asked for a caligraphy set and that is exactly what you got." I explained that Grandma was helping us more than Reagan. I know it is hard for them to understand that everything isn't always even Steven. My youngest gets to go to camp too.
My youngest got a bathing suit today and my oldest really, really needs one. We are now debating if we should let our youngest go to a water park this weekend with church that both kids are able to go to (mid-high and high school are able to attend). Our oldest has a graduation party to go to and we had told them both we couldn't afford for them to go. So now we have this dilemma of feeling like we want to let the youngest go since her birthday present was significantly less. What do you all think?

I say no one goes to water park. You already told them that. Besides if little one gets to go to camp too, the little one got camp AND an additional gift. |
