You can eat brown rice, lean meats, low-fat dairy products, fruits and vegetables. But, you have to stop eating foods like bagels, pasta, bread, cereal, white rice, cookies, sweets, and cakes.

Many excellent recipes are included in the book with have no flour and sugar, yet taste delicious.

Connie, I never heard of Ezekial cereal or muffins (yum), but do eat Ezekial bread. I love it. I eat with either cream cheese or Trader Joe's organic peanut butter. I know the main thing is to focus on what you can eat versus what you can't with this lifestyle. I did just give up flour for 2 weeks and it wasn't to bad, however, was eating too much dark chocolate. It's amazing how quick the body wants to find a substitute for an addiction.

Connie, I am in Silverton Oregon about 10 miles west of Salem. We get more rain on this side of the mountains. We originally looked at moving to Bend, but my job offer was in Salem, so that is where we ended up. Bend is about 2 hours west of Salem.

Debbie, good one about twins! =0)

Went to the health food store to try some Ezekiel bread, but they were out. My mom (lives in CA) went to Trader Joe's and got their flourless bread and said it was not only good, but only $2.99 a loaf. We are visiting her next week and I am going to buy a few loaves when I'm down there and smuggle them home. I never thought about eating sandwiches as much as I have in the last few weeks. Same thing when I was pregnant...never craved a tuna sandwich until I was not supposed to have it. Funny how the mind and body work.

Welcome TammyGirl, if you've been reading the posts you can see I am fairly new and this is the end of my first week on NFNS and I feel GREAT! My husband is doing it with me and we eat oatmeal, fruit, or hardboiled eggs for breakfast. Lunch I have a salad, usually with hard boiled egg or plain tuna on it with other veggies. We found Annie's Naturals Goddess salad dressing is really good and so flavorful you don't need a lot... and NO SUGAR! I like cheese, so I sprinkle feta cheese on my salad for the flavor and find I don't need as much dressing. Dinner is our basic chicken or meat with brown rice and lots of steamed veggies. Like Hilda said, sugar free jello or pudding or sugar free popsicles have helped me with my addiction/habit for dessert.

Are any of you bored eaters? I find that eating NFNS has made me VERY aware of when I am eating out of boredom. I am definitly a bored eater. When I am busy I can go all day and not even think about food, but when I am bored the first thing I do is open the fridge and then I obsess about food. Again...weird how the mind works. I have yet to be hungry eating NFNS, but when bored it's almost like my boredom has a mind of its own and leads me to the fridge or pantry. It has really been an eye opener in a good AND bad way. It is a bit depressing knowing how much control I can have over myself, but chose not to use and ended up overweight.

Is it me or are cravings like kids??? You just have to be the one who waits it out longer. My boys will have a temper tantrum, but I have to endure it and I know the tantrum will stop. I just have to be the one not to give in. If I give in before it's over it makes the tantrum next time even worse! My cravings seem like that...if I can wait it out it will go away, but if I give in the cravings don't stop!

Well, today is a new day and the sun is shining (well it is here anyway). I feel great and am committed to continuing that feeling. I hope you all have a great NFNS day!!

Hey Debbie, My step-son went through a time when his grades dropped and we realized he was texting all the time (at school when he was in class and in the middle of the night). I mean...8,000 texts a month! We allowed him to have his phone after he finished his homework each day and we checked it over until bedtime. This gave him an incentive to get his work done right after coming home from school. We also allowed him to have it after school on Fridays (usually no homework) until Sunday at 9pm. His grades improved and he wasn't rebelious because we didn't take it away completely. I think putting time limits on phones and gaming is important. Each child responds differently, but I think you're going down the right path. Good luck!

Well what a great group we have here, eh! A bunch of people really trying to get on top of their health issues.

Heather, my daughter is being married in Salem the end of the summer. She can't be married at home (in Canada) because then it is complicated with border issues so she is being married in his home town. I have never been to Oregon so I am looking fore ward to that. I was hoping to rent a vacation home by water for all of my family to stay in but, I guess the water is maybe a little too far from Salem.

Debbie, I weighed (at WW)this morning. I was down 2 more lbs. so that is 5 1/2 lbs altogether for the two weeks. It is helping me to weigh in and count what I am eating. Okay here is the deal though and you know what I am talking about......I have lost the same 5, 10, 15 lbs.......like 7 million times and that is as far as I usually go. Debbie you and I have both done this pattern of losing part way and then gaining it back before we even get close to our goal. I don't want to do that anymore.....I can't it is too depressing. You are on your way back down and I am as well......lets decide right now to not let our weight go back up and to just keep doing the things we have to do to make it keep going down. I lose weight slowly and I know there will be discouraging times......but I have to override those times and wait out the slow weight loss times. We can do this.....Yeah for us!!!!!

Bronwyn, congratulations on your daughter's upcoming wedding! Salem is about an hour drive to the coast. Hwy 22 takes you directly out from Salem to Lincoln City. It is beautiful on the coast. The drive into Salem is lovely as well. I am not sure how far you want to drive, but I would stay on the coast if I had the chance. I really love the ocean. Our favorite beach is Cape Kiwanda at Pacific City. It is about another 15 minute drive north once you get to Lincoln City. The beach is enormous, clean, and very family friendly. Wherever you decide to stay I think you'll like it. Salem is really beautiful during the summer and fall months.

My husband was going to Portland for an interview today and found a Trader Joe's. He bought 2 loaves of their flourless bread. I'll tell you all if it's good or not. I am sure it will taste FABULOUS seeing as I have not had bread for almost a week now! =0)

Heather, thanks for the welcome. I go to Trader Joe's too. I love that Ezekial bread. I like the Cinnamon Raisin bread with cream cheese in the morning for breakfast. I find just one slice really satisfies me. I also like the Sesame too -- I'll toast that one too and put Trader Joe's Organic Creamy Peanut Butter. The ingredients are just peanuts and salt. I love Trader Joe's. You can find lots of products there for our No Four No Sugar lifestyle!

Wait 'til you guys hear this -- my history with WW is I was .4 from my goal -- yes you read that right just .4 from goal and I blew it. I never made it to goal and just started to gain it back. My highest weight before WW was 243 ... I do not weigh that now, but feel like it could be just a matter of time before I get back there if I don't stop this flour/sugar addiction.

Heather I am totally a bored eater.....that is the cause of the greatest part of my eating. I am not a big eater over all....you know sit down to a meal and wolf down a massive amount of food. My tendency is to eat because I am bored or procrastinating the things I need to do. What kind of food do you eat when you are bored.....usually for me bad choices....sugar and more sugar especially chocolate. So I have a lot of things to change and that is one of the big ones.....eating only for hunger. It feels so good to eat when you are truly hungry.

Tammy your WW story is not unusual.....actually I think it isn't unusual for almost any diet.....that is why we can't diet we have to truly change. I have been such an on and off person.....on a diet or totally off a diet.

Good morning everybody. I live in Baltimore and we awoke to about 2 feet of snow. Yuck. It is pretty, but not looking forward to shoveling. Heather, I forgot to say that I too am a bored eater. And for me it will fester into what I call "grazing" -- so it's not like I am eating a lot of one particular food, I just keep searching, looking, eating, nibbling on different things until I think I am satisfied or no longer bored. I find if I can just go upstairs to my bedroom and watch TV or now I just like to read in my bedroom - then I am fine. That's another whole issue with me too, sleeping. I am having such success now if I just read at night versus watching TV. I go to sleep more easily and my sleep is more deep. I highly recommend not watching TV in the bedroom.

Since I am snowed in today I will be checking back often. Have a great day everyone.

I get to be pampered this morning...but still totally tired. I have slept pretty good the rest of the week so I shouldn't complain. I just got in bed late last night.

Bronwyn, congrats on the 5 pounds. That is not only wonderful because 5 pounds is 5 pounds and makes a difference in how your clothes feel, slight, but definitely there, but because you have 2 full weeks of weight loss eating behind you and have established a pattern that will lead to many more 5 pound loses. It does get easier, it becomes a way of life. Well done!

Oh Debbie, the dreaded stomach virus! They always rampaged through our house until everyone had it. My wish for your daughter, your family and you is that it is short lived. Whenever I am sick during the winter months I always console myself by being thankful it was not over the holidays. Or spring break. I hope she feels better soon, vomiting and diarrhea at the same time is the worst.

TammyGirl, stay warm and don't overdo! It's hard not to be a bored eater when so many of the foods we buy are so convenient.

Thanks for the well wishes. Funny story. A series of unfortunate events occured in the night. Daughter and I were headed back to the bedroom from the bathroom after a torturous event. I was holding the trash can and she was holding her water. Just as she got to her bed she wirled around and vomited on me knocking the trash can out of my hands. The watery green vomit went on me, the floor, her sisters bed and the from of the dresser. She sat down on her bed just to get the last of it into the garbage can. Then she shifter to grab a towel she knocked the can over on its side! Needless to say I've had better nights.

On a happier not I was 199.5 today!

I am going to do whatever I can to make sure I do what ever it takes to NEVER see 200 again.
OK, I am ready to tell you all what I have been doing for the last several days.

Its not NFNS. I felt really out of control with my clories. I looked into Jenny Craig and Nutri-system. ALl just too expensive and I don't want to go to all that trouble. Soooooo to simplify my life for two weeks I decided to eat 3 Lean Quisine dinners a day. That adds up to around 950 a day. I suppliment with veggies twice a day and fruit once. Then I have some skim milk in my coffe and 1/2 a cup with a meal. This makes counting calories very easy for me for now. I'm always way under 1500 and I am losing already. This obviously isnt a long term thing for me to do. But for now it is easy. I just need a positive start that is easy. Something I don't have to think about. They are not sugar or flour free and they have more sodium than I would like but they have lots of protein and I like them. We will see if I am sick of them after two weeks.

Please don't flame me. I need support now critisizm. I will return to NFNS when I feel like I can mentally handle the challenge. After I get some momentum I will drop one meal, probably breakfast and substitute just that one, for a healthful 300 calories of NFNS. And then supper. But I'm going slowly. Calories is what I need to count right now.And it needs to be mindless.

Here's an interesting topic to discuss. Anybody ever hear of The Daylight Diet? But, it's not really a diet, it's a way of life. My brother not only purchased the book, he meet the author recently at a book signing. It basically says you should only eat during the daylight hours. Isn't that interesting? My brother swears by this philosophy. The premise is your body needs time to recover from all the eating it has done during the day. The evening hours are for repair and rebuilding. My brother doesn't eat after 4pm, if not earlier. He says eating is in three parts, digestion, absorption, and elimination. And your body can't do all three of these efficiently when it's constantly eating. Me, personally, I think it makes sense. What about you guys? I can't wait to hear all the responses.

Debbie, sorry to hear about your daughter being sick. Every time Christian was cutting a new tooth he would throw up when he drank milk. Usually we wouldn't know he was cutting a tooth until the middle of the night and we had curdled milk on the carpet, on him, and the bedding. Definitely NOT FUN!

Congrats on breaking 200! Such a good feeling when the scale goes down!! I think a lifestyle change in eating has to work for each individual person. I think if you can stick with the plan you are doing now then you should do it. Good luck and let us know how it is working for you.

Connie, what a thoughtful husband you have! Breakfast in bed...my, my! What a nice surprise I bet.

Tammy...we only had a dusting of snow so far this year. I don't think we will get any more. We may take the boys to the snow (about 1 hour drive) because they have never played in it before. Shoveling snow does not sound like fun. I try not to eat anything after 8pm and then I usually don't eat anything until around 8am. Do you really need more than 12 hours for your body to eliminate what you've eaten? It is an interesting concept, but sometimes I don't get home and dinner on the table until after dark.

Bronwyn...I completely missed the congrats for your 5 pound loss yesterday! Great job!

I am not supposed to weigh in until tomorrow, but I felt good this morning and cheated...I started at 211.8 on Sunday (I am 5'8") and weighed in this morning at 207.6! I have lost 4.2 pounds so far eating NFNS and I am thrilled. Not only does the weight loss make me happy, but I feel better. Even if the scale stayed the same I would feel great knowing I am eating healthier. I know the first week or two are larger weight loss weeks than the following. I figure if I stick to this and add a little exercise I should be able to maintain a 5 pound per month loss which would be 60 pounds in 1 year! I don't need or want to lose that much. My true goal is to get down to 165. I have maintained there before for many years without starving myself. WW says my heaviest should be 159, but I am going to see how it goes once I get closer. Right now I am looking at my first goal of 10%, which is a loss of 21.2 pounds. I just have 17 pounds to my first goal! That goal will put me one pound above pre-baby weight.

Superbowl...let's see...never really been a big football follower. I usually end up rooting for the underdog. I just like to watch the game. Usually fold laundry during football =0)

Made nachos last night. Did you know there is a ton of sugar in a silly taco seasoning packet???? I just made my own off the ingredients list and my taco meat came out better than the packet usually tastes. How crazy is that? I am making beef, barley, and potato stew right now in the crock pot and it will be done by 6pm. YUMMY comfort food!

Hope you all have a great day. Stay warm and dry and hug your loved ones. =0)

Debbie, you should absolutely be proud about your eating plan right now. It is obviously working, your sticking to it easily and there are a zillion worse ways to eat. If you progress into NFNS or something else, so be it. The point is you are in control of what you are putting in your mouth...you can do it however you want to, when you want to. You go girl! I have a feeling you will never be able to forget all the NFNS info you have learned and that it will continue to impact your food decisions. You have my support...you have always had my support. You are the only person I ever heard of that actually had 36-24-36 measurements. I have only ever wanted that for you...or to be more precise...something in that neighborhood. Glad your daughter is doing better.

I am torn in my support for the Super Bowl. Of course I want the Colts because I have so much family in Indiana. But there is tug on my heart for the Saints as well. New Orleans has been through the wringer and they have never been to the Super Bowl. I too am always an underdog fan for some reason. So really, I am torn and I wish that were not the case.

TammyGirl, I agree with the authors theory. Years ago when I was a health nut (seriously, I was impossible to be around!) I remember reading that sleep is the time when the body repairs and recovers. That's why sleep is so important. The older we get, the less efficient our bodies become in that aspect. One example I read had to do with digesting artificial sweeteners. Since the sweeteners contain chemicals the body doesn't have the enzymes to break them down with, it has to expend great effort to digest them. That effort takes away from other digestion/repairing/recovering the body should/could be doing for optimal health. I'm sure I just did a poor job of explaining that...but you get the point. The better we eat and rest, the more our body can do for itself.

Heather H, happy, happy, joy, joy on the weight loss. Isn't it wonderful to feel in control and to know you are going in the right direction? When I started NFNS I knew immediately I was eating right..I didn't question it for a minute.

What a difference a day makes! Breakfast in bed this morning then arguing in the afternoon over selling one of our cars. Ugh! We made peace pretty quickly, but it was ugly for awhile. Good news is, we sold one and now we only have a van to get rid of. It was looking like a used car lot around here!

Hilda, You got me thinking about the amount of sodium I've been getting so I looked it up. The recommendation is to aim for a sodium intake between 2000 and 2500 milligrams daily. But to get at least 500 mg. Each LC meal has about 500 mg. That made me feel a little better.
Heather H
posted 6-Feb-2010 9:47pm

Debbie, just make sure to increase your water intake so you don't experience any water retention which may seem like weight gain on the scale. When I was pregnant the doctor told me the best way to fight water retention was to drink more water! Weird, right? Well, she said your body starts saving water when there isn't a regular intake of it. So, if you regularly drink water your body senses that and your body then releases water regularly, preventing retention.

Hmmm?????..... Debbie, funny story, eh smile Best to laugh! Listen no one knows what is the best for you but, yourself. If Lean Cuisine helps you with portion control or helps you to get started I think you are to be congratulated and not worry about any criticism, which you won't get here anyways!!! You can see what a 300 calorie meal is and you are adding some fresh stuff to it. I need the counting of points or calories to keep things on track.....I get that. Breakfast is probably teh easiest meal to change when you decide to do that.

You know there are so many different theories out there that it gets confusing. As for me I would not do well with not eating after 4:00. I wouldn't be able to have dinner with my family. Your system gets a rest even if you ate at 9 or 10 at night, and don't eat again until the next morning. I just don't know why you would have to stop at 4 in the afternoon......it doesn't fit in with a normal life style and I think it would be awkward and challenging. All that being said if it works for some people and they are happy with the results then that is great.

Congratulations on the weight losses. Hope K10 is happy and doing well!!!!

The English teacher just emailed today and I quote:

Really? Really? This does not sound like ADD to me. It sounds like an attitude problem. I was so angry I had to leave the house. When I asked my son about this report he said "Its not true. She is exaggerating." That made me even madder!!!
I just don't know what to do or how to feel besides angry. Trust me I have been through a whole range of emotions. At this point I am furious.

Debbie, I agree with Connie. I had similar problems with my son after about age 13. I remember one semester in 7th grade he got straght D's. He got a few decent grades in high school but it was mostly C's and D's. It's very frustrating to hear over and over that your kid is capable of doing the work but not putting in the effort. We tried everything we could think of but could not motivate him. It never occurred to me that it could be something like ADD. I thought it was just a bad attitude, not trying hard enough, etc. and he would grow out of it -- a late bloomer. He's 23 now and has recently given up on college after years of poor grades (not all bad but his transcripts are a mess) and has difficulty holding down a job. I don't know that he has ADD but I wish we would have explored that possibility.

Debbie, try and look at it like this...a person with an illness can't get better without treatment, that is what your son is going through. And quite possibly now he has established negative behaviors and self esteem (although he surely tries to disguise it) and those issues will have to be addressed as well. I would embrace him and tell him how much better things can be. Be as positive and supportive as you can, he needs it, a lot of it. It is going to be ok. The right medication can change lives. I know, I've been to the edge and came back. I beat up on myself when I had no hope of changing on my own. I'm sure he is down on himself as well. Doesn't that break your heart? I can't wait to hear how things go at the doc. Be positive as much as you can. Shower him with love.

I just looked up the symptoms of Adult ADD and much of it could have been written describing my son. It will be difficult to convince him to get help because 1)he doesn't think there's a problem and 2)he will get angry that I think there's "something wrong with him." I'll try to find a good time to talk to him about it this week.

Debbie, bless your heart! It is going to make the rounds it seems. Well, tell your daughter "welcome to being part of a responsible family." Today I had a very small disagreement with my daughter. She has a dear friend from HS who is really in a bad spot. The girl had really bad parenting and now she is paying the price. The mom is the opposite of irresponsible. Believe me, I'm not mom of the year...but this mom gave several girls alcohol before a dance when they were in 10th grade. I didn't find out till much later. That is just one example. I ended the conversation by telling my daughter she would never behave with her daughter in that way. She said she wouldn't, but she likes the mom. I went to WM on line and bought two maternity outfits for the friend. We are going to tell the friend my daughter bought them with her first paycheck so she doesn't become embarrassed. How sad is that? Being responsible is something to teach them when they are young and to set an example at every opportunity. Parenting is hard, hard, hard.

Debbie you are saying the things that people always say about A.D.D. children......it is just their attitude, they are lazy, they don't try hard enough, they don't care and on and on. Try to imagine how he feels to constantly hear disparaging remarks, remarks that; he has an attitude problem, that he is lazy, that he just doesn't care and all those other things he has heard from school, from home from everyone for his whole life. I guarantee that he does not like where things are at and he doesn't want to be that big "loser" that he feels he is. He doesn't want people to be mad at him. He doesn't want to fail. By high school however, he thinks he is all of those things he has heard and he really believes he can't do it. He probably down deep thinks he is stupid, lazy and worthless. I tell you this from my heart because I myself have been there and I have watched my son be there and it is so hard.

Got to run.............just hand the course Debbie.....let him know that you love him unconditionally .......

My friend invited us and I ended up chasing little one for the first half and missed a lot of the game. Just not a place for kids. At the half my husband brought me and little one home. Much better! She played and played, I watched the game, friend got to have a little bit of time with adults and husband got to watch with a bunch of men.

Hilda, I did too, thought The Who sounded pitiful too. As much as I love the music from these older bands (I'm 47) ... sometimes I find they ought to just step aside and let the younger musicians perform at an event like the Super Bowl. Some older musicians lose their vocals and they should just step aside. Is that mean or what?

The discussion about ADD was very interesting; my son who is 11 years old has the same issues. However, his school has never used the term ADD. They say he has trouble paying attention and focusing in class. In fact, when in Kindergarten this started as an issue and he immediately was put on an IEP (Individual Education Plan). He actually did Kindergarten twice, which was good because he was one of the younger kids in the classroom anyway. That was the best thing I ever did. What Baltimore County schools do for him with this IEP is make accommodations in the classroom for his learning disability. He gets visual and written clues throughout the day, he gets pulled out for reading, and every class he is seated at the front of the classroom. Right now I have just been reluctant to take it to the next level, like discuss with pediatrician and the option of medication.

Today I have started with the NFNS. It was just hard to stick to it being snowed in all weekend. I did give up flour for two weeks and did great, but gave in to chocolate chip cookies (that was a week ago) but the cookies were made with whole wheat flour. I was thinking I could stop at just two (which I did that night), but the next day I ate more of them and that started this down whirl spiral of eating flour/sugar for a week. I was totally out of control. It was truly like an addiction. But today I am back on plan.

Question, what do you do if you are out at a restaurant and want to use a little ketchup?

posted 8-Feb-2010 10:50am

TammyG, welcome to the world of NFNS. You will always be confronted with having to make an extra effort when it comes to food. The payoffs of sticking with the plan are many and wonderful. But it is an all or nothing proposition. I worry when people "play around" with eating like this. I worry that it very easily becomes a compromise/habit that is so easy to live with, it becomes impossible to do correctly. Maybe that is not always the case, but it happens a lot...and easily. Dr Gott's plan eliminates flours of all kinds. Bronwyn advocate's healthy flours only. She is following WW and eating clean. I have been slipping and sliding like crazy and can't get a pair of mypants on. I found that out this morning. Part of it is because I too have been very inactive these winter months. But cheating is cheating and the results are always weight gain. So figure out if you are really ready to do this. And remember, calories count. If you prefer to eat like Bronwyn just watch your caloric intake.

Happy Monday all! I took hubby to the airport yesterday morning. He flew to CA to work for a week because he has been looking for a job here, but with no luck...until Friday! He got two job offers here...one full time day job and a part-time night job. He is going to work both since it was so hard to find at least one job and we have almost used up our savings. So, when he comes back from CA he will have work. YAY!!!

I was watching the boys all day yesterday, so didn't get to see the game. I stayed all NFNS all week (1st week). I am not having any trouble whatsoever sticking to the plan. I hear everyone say they are having trouble and cheating...I am afraid! Is this harder for some than others? We don't eat out a lot, but I already have planed what things I would be able to eat if we did eat out. Stepped on the scale Sunday (official weigh in day) and was down a total of 4.4 for the week. I am hoping for 2 pounds my second week, so we shall see how that goes.

Debbie, I am sorry to hear about your daughter being sick. I hope she is feeling better. Poor thing! Being sick is no fun.

Connie...you can come to Oregon and babysit for me anytime! You are such a good friend to babysit. It is amazing how just an hour or two without a child is like a vacation. Your friend is very lucky to have you.

Tammy...your question about the ketchup...ask for some tomatoe slices or use mustard. I know mustard isn't the same as ketchup, but..after one week on no sugar you will think ketchup tastes WAY to sugary. You just have to commit or it won't work. Tak it one day at a time and commit to NFNS for that day. Once you get a few days under your belt you will start to feel so good you won't want to eat F or S.

Good luck all. Hope you have a wonderful day. It is really really really foggy here, but supposed to clear out and be about 50 degrees today. Fingers crossed.

The baby has gone home. Sometimes I babysit more than other times. I remember what it was like to have little ones. I would only leave mine with Grandparents when they were little. I was not raised here so I didn't know people. I'm the only one that watches my friends little girl so far. It is hard for her being back here after 20 years gone. She needs a little help. And that girl loves on me just as much as I love on her!

We might get some more snow later. Husband leaves tomorrow for 7 days straight. I am really hoping that will give me a chance to get caaught up on my sleep. I don't know how I ended up so sleep deprived, and I am really feeling it today, but I can tell my body is at it's limit. I'm so tired I don't feel well. I'm going to try and take a nap. Last weeks sleep was so good, now 3 nights straight of horrible rest.

TammyG, maybe you could make an appointment to meet with your sons teachers and discuss an evaluation of whether he is ADD or not. If they haven't brought it up, maybe he isn't. But I would find out. If he is, school is going to be so hard for him and life after school will be equally so. My husbands nephew had ADD and his entire academic life was really rough. If he had received help sooner it may have been much better for everyone.

Ok, time to nap. As tired as I am napping will be hard for me. But I'm going to give it a good try!

TammyGirl
posted 9-Feb-2010 9:19am

I know many of you may be using Splenda as a sugar substitute, but I highly recommend against it. I read a wonder book awhile ago and it said that the FDA didn’t want to approve Splenda. But guess what, the person who worked in the lab for Splenda quit that job and got a job with the FDA and then all of the sudden Splenda got approved. They tout it as being natural, but it isn’t.

Splenda has been shown to cause weight gain, disruption of sleep patterns, sexual dysfunction, increases in cancer, MS, Lupus, diabetes, and other degenerative diseases. Splenda continues to stand tough in their denial of any connection to chemical additives all for the sake of profits.

The two safest choices of sweeteners to date are saccharin and stevia. Yes, saccharin! Saccharin is actually similar to Stevia in its origin. It originally came from a plant imported from China, and in its original form, is a complex sugar extract from the plant itself. Stevia is extracted from a plant grown in South America, and is also a complex sugar extract.

In all the literature I have read about natural health Stevia is the only sugar substitute I use. I buy the packets from Trader Joe’s and keep some in my purse. When I go to Starbucks that is what I will put in my latté.

I am sorry we didn't try it earlier (like when he was in High School). I think it would have really helped him to have a better experience in school. I have been so against even thinking of these A.D.D. medications and I do still worry but, overall I have seen benefits. I haven't noticed any real negative affects yet except appetite.
