I bought a big bag of California oranges a while back and have eaten one every day. I think that has helped me with my fruit intake. The Doctors show today talked about how water helps your body. They were not too keen on Vitamin water.

I think today I am going to count my points. Bear, like you, I feel like I'm gaining weight. I have given up flour and severely restricted my sugar intake, but I still must be eating too much. Therefore, today, I will count my points. I just haven't had that light feeling in a long time. Yesterday I had on my khaki's and they were tight, they used to fit me just right. Everything still comes down to calories doesn't it? LOL

My mom came over for my husbands birthday yesterday. So on the instant message today she asked me why I wasn't losing weight. She wanted to know if it was my medicine. I told he I didn't know but she didnt let it go. I was sad. I just felt attacked. Dosnt she know I think about being thin all the time? Dosnt she know how unhappy I am with my body? That I think about how I used to look and always compare myself to that perfect body I used to have? I'm so tired of dieting and gaining. I want to be satisfied with myself. What the heck? I'm so sick of all this.

^^^ Yes, that is frustrating! Hang in there, all.

Initially I was thinking that the insulin spikes from F & S were what I had to
worry about. It's also that I'm overstressed and that makes me eat more,
especially when I'm trying not to.

Yesterday I had a very tiny spoon of Pb and no artificial sweeteners. Today, no pb
but I did have one sugar free pudding. No more of either today.

Yesterday I had blackberries, carrots and yogurt during the day and chicken in 1/2 a potato skin for dinner. Also a date and a few raisins. I guess I will just keep it up like that.

Morning. Yes, everything does come down to calories. That's the simple version. Then, when you add in where those calories come from, it gets a bit more complicated. WW has you watch your calories and where those calories come from. NFNS does as well. Tammy and Bear, have you read Dr Gott's book? It does a good job of explaining. You know, when I started NFNS I was worried about diabetes. My mom is diabetic, my Gma was and now one of my sisters. I was the next largest daughter in my family and I just knew I was going to be a diabetic too. I could feel it. I had grown out of my size 14's and shopping for 16's. My eating was terrible. So I wanted an eating plan that addressed diabetes. That's how I came across Dr Gott. I never thought I was going to lose so much weight. But like the book said, once my blood sugar leveled off, my appetite dropped off as well. Of course, I watched my calories at the same time. Sometimes I ate and made myself stop. I needed to eat less so my body could burn it's stored fat for fuel. I also included a lot of water each day. I know it seems like a little bit of chocolate is harmless...but is it? For the same amount of calories you consume on the chocolate, you could have ate a ton of veggies. The veggies would fill you up to the point where you not only would not have had the the chocolate, but you may have skipped other unnecessary eating as well. And the added boost of level blood sugar that diminishes cravings and mood swings. That little bit of chocolate became the fuel your body used instead of your stored fat. Once in a while some chocolate...sure. Regularly, not a good idea if your trying to lose weight.

Debbie, I am so there in the starting each day anew. Ugh! My husband brought home a box of chocolates for me when he got back in town. I wasn't happy at all. The box went to work with him. What was he thinking? But yesterday I stayed NFNS and I plan on doing that today as well. For a lunch yesterday I put some cottage cheese and a sprinkling of Cavenders on my rice cakes. So good! And a NFNS dinner too. I need to menu plan and shop. And I will do it! Good luck to you today. I think this years winter is dragging on. I can't wait to be outdoors and be busy again.

Great day all.

Ok you guys, I just read the latest posts. I see a problem with attitude. If you are looking at this eating plan as another unfortunate diet, it will never work for you. It is making you feel deprived and sad! You need to be happy about what your eating. Do me a favor, sit down and list all the foods you love that are NFNS. Make as big a list as you can.

I'll try to share more positive things- I am still NFNS!!

Good luck today all.

I agree Connie. Eating a whole bag of steamed veggies certainly does fill you up. If you make a list of what you should eat during the day and make sure those are the things you put in your mouth, along with enough water, you should not be hungry. Some say eating below 1200 calories a day is not good. I think we eat because we are bored. It becomes a bad habit. I also think most of us are dehydrated from too much coffee, tea, and diet soda and not enough water.
Connie
posted 18-Feb-2010 11:31am

I remember once my sister and I musing over the fact that we did not believe we could lose weight on 1200 calories a day. I don't know...I do know to lose weight you have to eat less than you are eating now. And if everything you put in your mouth is nothing but nutritious...NO EMPTY CALORIES...and you eat less, which you can because everything you put in your mouth is nutritious with NO EMPTY CALORIES...you will lose weight.

Hilda, I am going to make a point of stocking up on veggies when I go to the store. I remember when I started NFNS I ate veggies with tons of water and had no room for more food. We can do this ladies.

Off to Gma's.

Making the food you eat highly nutritious and low calorie is truly the way too stay balanced. You don't feel hungry and you aren't craving things. I am so surprised how much quantity I eat in a day and stay in my points when I make all good food choices. That idea is exactly what kept me from having the chocolate.....it would have used up too many points and then I would be hungry and unable to eat without going over my points, because chocolate isn't a filling food. I make a zero or one point soup to eat so that I have (1) the nutrition (2) the filling foods bulk (3) very low points. You can google low point soups and pick one that appeals to you if you think that would help. All that being said I am worried about my weigh in tomorrow. I know things have slowed down and I hope to have lost at least 1/2 lb. If I do that will be 4 straight weeks of losing each week and I never seem to do that.

Debbie you are so right about how discouraging it is to be going up and down the scales a few lbs. constantly.....that is depressing. I know that I have lost these few lbs. I am now losing about a zillion times and then stopped got discouraged and gained them back. That behaviour keeps me in limbo.....going no where and being extremely sad and frustrated. I am not going to let that happen this time. It may be a slow slog from here but I never want to see the 8 lbs. to date that I have lost.....ever again. I want to continue to build on this loss! You can too......you have to the other way is just too depressing.

Bronwyn
posted 18-Feb-2010 1:19pm

just out of interest I checked out the nutritional info on Lindt 70% chocolate......35 grams (and that is really not much) is 4 points. Instead I could have 1 bowl of 1 point soup, half an orange and a Whole wheat pita with a skip of cream cheese and filled with veggies and rolled. Then again I could have the chocolate if that is what I really, really wanted.....but at this point it doesn't seem like the way to go.

Love hearing from you Bronwyn. The other day I was thinking that WW is great for you because it engages your enormous brain! You need to be uber thinking when you do something. Tomorrow's weigh in will be fine no matter what happens. You know what works for you and if your trip out of town stops you for one week...not the end of the world. You have many weight loss weeks in your future. I can't wait to see if your perception of chocolate changes after you have been away from it for a while.

How ya doing Debbie? I had left overs for lunch today. My friend insisted I go to lunch with her when she got done at the gym. I went and had a cup of coffee and then came home and ate. Last night we had shrimp scampi on NF noodles with a scoop of cottage cheese right in the middle. Made a good lunch too.

I never made it to the store today...it's just not going to happen. But I am stocking up on veggies when I go, fresh and frozen. Actually I have a hefty list started. Grocery shopping never ends!

Today is day 5 on the NFNS diet. I have lost a couple pounds and feel pretty good. I do have craving like Bear but have been trying to avoid any temptations. That brings up a question...is there any type of alcholic beverage that is allowed on this diet? I know wine is out b/c of the sugar content but wasn't sure about other spirits.

Page 7 says, .....limiting alcohol.

Page 79 talkes about being extra careful about your diet before and after a binge if potatoes, rice or alcohol are consumed.
And page 88 says, " A word about alcohol:
"One's favorite alcohol may be consumed in moderation with this diet, but beware that all alcohol provides empty calories. Wine, especially red wine, has been in the news lately due to its recently discovered beneficial health effects when consumed in moderation."

Your to plan to lose weight is working...it's working! 8 lbs in one month is very good. At that rate you will really be looking thinner very soon. People didn't start to notice my weight loss until I had dropped around 20 lbs. And always they commented on my face being slimmer. But I was loving my butt and thighs getting slimmer. I am a pear to the extreme.

Debbie, thanks for all quotes from the book. They seem so mild! I have become a warrior against F&S and I want them to be called evil and avoided at all costs. I am a woman on a mission!

Congrats on day 5 Jen. Sorry about the cravings. Have you stayed NFNS 100%? It does seem to be a prerequisite to eliminating those pesky cravings. I have been NFNS all day and it feels so good to be back on track.

I just had some pasta, warmed in the microwave, and threw some cottage cheese on it with some Cavenders. Not a veggie in sight! But I had lot's of veggies for lunch so I'm not feeling too guilty. In a bit I will probably have some cereal. Then menu planning. Tomorrow shopping.

Morning. 148.6 this morning. For the past two days I have been vigilant in my eating, only deliberate eating. I have not snacked unless I was away from home and knew I needed to eat. I carried my cashews with me and was very careful not to overdo. I am thrilled to be in the 140's again. I find myself wondering if I can get below my previous lowest weight. I think I once saw 142.?. Mostly it was the 143's that I reached with great effort. We'll see. I do know I need to post my weight often. It really keeps me accountable. I didn't get to menu plan last night. A friend needed to talk and I listened. So this morning that is what I have to do.

Bronwyn, I'm thinking these 8 lbs are special. From your postings it seems you have mastery of your eating plan. I'm not picking up that you are feeling frustrated and deprived. So these 8 lbs are the right 8 lbs you lost the right way.

Hilda, Cavender's Greek Seasoning is a spice. I really like it but someone once told me it has MSG in it. I don't know, I only use it with cottage cheese and I would probably have to get the magnifying glass out to read the ingredients. A little sprinkle goes a long way.

We need to have "mini physicals" for our insurance rates to be at their lowest. I did that two years ago so it will be interesting to see how the results have changed.

Today I am going to make sure every bite I take is needed and NFNS. I am going to drink extra water. I am going to eat mostly vegetables. And I am not going to snack between meals. Sounds like a plan, huh?

Emerging from the hormone haze, I am much less tired in the afternoons than I would usually be. I feel I have slightly more mental focus.

I feel I have more energy on the treadmill when I go. I go every other day,
but I went today and feel like going tomorrow...(?)

Connie, no, I haven't read Dr Gott's book. I have seen it at the book store and browsed through it some.

I just got in the mail the book I ordered, "Breaking the Food Seduction". I have been spot reading it because I am so excited to have finally received it. Dr. Barnard, the author, really promotes a vegan lifestyle. He has a chapter just about choosing foods that hold your blood sugar steady and he talks about using the Glycemic Index. He also has a chapter on the appetite-taming hormone Leptin. Actually your doctor can check for leptin...to see how much is in your blood. It's important to remember, to keep your leptin working well, use the Rule of Ten: Simply take your ideal body weight and multiply it by ten. This gives you the number of calories you must eat each day as a minimum. So, if my ideal body weight is 160, I must eat at least 1,600 calories each day.

I'm going to go read all the post since Friday now.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Connie, if you don't mind me asking ... what did you used to weigh? Also, what was the time frame of your weight loss? You might be right about the 1,600 calories a day and losing weight. I do know that 1 point = about 50 calories. And if I was doing WW right now I would be at about 24 points I think, so that times 50 is only 1,200 and even if you factor in the flexpoints I would only get about 250 calories more per day at most. You'll get to the low 140's.

I did the suggestion on here and didn't buy the expensive bag of grilled eggplant from Trader Joe's. I am currently baking my eggplant in the oven. I brushed with olive oil and salt and pepper. Should be done in about 20 minutes.

congrats, you guys are doing so well.

Bronwyn, that is crazy, no way I could bake a cake, congrats!

Tammy, I also prefer raw cookie dough, maybe we can come up with something...

I may have some banana with sugarfree choc. sauce in a bit. I do feel the need
for something.

dessert: sugar free rice pudding, 1/3 banana, spoon sugar free choc sauce,
heated in microwave. Good, and filling. The choc sauce seemed too sweet.

As long as I stay away from PB and sugarfree ice cream, I think I'll be okay!

Good night all.

Evening ladies. Well, actually it's later than evening. My babysitting lasted longer and then dinner and then a movie and dishes...time flies when you go from one thing to another. Today I had some Ezek muffins and I noticed I became pretty bloated. I have been enjoying a tighter tummy the last couple of days. And then I found that once my tummy pouched out, I was wanting to nibble. Hmmm. I ate a lot of veggies today but I'm going to limit my Ezek intake even more. Maybe a couple times a week only. Dinner was steak (reduced in price but awesome) 1/2 baked potato and fresh green beans. I am good and full...but not too full. I only ate a chunk of steak instead of the whole thing.

I lost the bulk of my weight in about 6 months. I started out in the 180's.

Bronwyn, I don't know if I could resist cake or cake batter right now! I do know there was a time when I did. I'm getting back there. Good for you...so much control. Control is a good thing.

For me, I would have to look at desserts as a Sunday evening only affair. Every night would add up to A LOT of extra calories. I would stick to a low fat protein if I needed something at night. My moms doctor advised her to have a low fat protein before she goes to bed at night. It is supposed to help with her sleeping too. Makes sense.

Alright ya'll have sweet dreams now, ya hear?

I have not been losing at all. I have been hovering around 200. I'm trying to make good choices for the most part but have fallen off the Lean Cuisine wagon. I asked my husband if he thought I was going to stay 200 pounds for the rest of my life (with a sigh) and he said he hoped not. :o(
My dryer broke but is fixed now so I spent yesterday catching up on the mountain of laundry that accumilated. Its hard to handle anything as I have an infected hang nail on my right hand. Ouch. I have antibiotic ointment on it but its still sore.

My son is home again today. So of course I feel deflated. My daughter is coughing her head off and has a sore throat but wild horses couldnt keep her home today. Its the first basketball game. She wouldn't miss it for the world. My son? I think its a physical manifestation of nerves. I feel helpless. He has what he calls "yucky burps" and diarrhea. What to do with him? What can I do?
Hilda I bought the big bag of oranges too. They are so good. Nobody wants to peal them but as soon as I peal one for me everyone wants some. heh

This lap top navigation makes me crazy. All of a sudden it will jump to something for no apparent reason.

Morning all. Weighed in at 148.6 this morning. I blame too much Ezek and more eating in general yesterday. Babysitting and hanging out in the kitchen does that to me. So what I am doing today...babysitting from sun up till sun down! Ugh!

Hang in there Debbie. When it rains it pours. You can get your weight down. You just haven't found the system that works for you. In the meantime, you have learned a lot about healthy eating and that is very important. A positive attitude has to be the first step. Remind yourself what a wonderful person you are and hang on to that feeling. Then make good food choices.

Everyone have a great day!

Debbie it is so hard to hover on the scale at the same weight.....how well I know this! I feel I have this as my new reality at this point as well and will have to fight tooth and nail to keep the&*(^*&^&%&^&*^( smile scales moving even slightly. If we hover at a weight and don't see things happening then we have to take the situation by the horns and make it move. Debbie don't change your eating for a few days and record your calories......get a clear picture of how many calories you are eating and then you will see what your maintenance calories are. Now either bump up your exercise to burn some of those calories or lower the calories.

Debbie could your son really be sick.....isn't that a possibility? How did things go last week at school with his taking the meds? Did you see any changes?

Connie......do you like to baby sit so much? Why does your friend have you doing so much sitting for her?
Debbie M.
posted 22-Feb-2010 3:23pm

Yes, he could be sick but he is sick a lot and its always the same. Usually on a Monday. We have been down this road many times before. I think last week was successful. He took the pill for 4 days. He did more work and had more concentration. I hope it continues.

Debbie, I'm glad to hear your son had some good days. There are old habits to shake, it will take some time. Will he be getting any regular counseling while he adjusts? Positive thoughts!

I do babysit a good bit. My friend does not have anyone else to help her. It is hard for her being here, she can't wait to move back to OR. In the meantime, I am helping as much as I can (sometimes I say no, but rarely) and the little one is crazy about me so I get a lot out of it. Today my friend had to go get her mom. Her mom lives 4 hours away and her moms car engine blew up, so she had to go get her. That would have put little one in the car seat for 8 hours. No fun for anyone in that situation. Little one just went down for a nap. She is so sweet. No crying, just lays down and off to sleep. We have watched the Care Bears movie a million times and this morning when I was digging in my closet I found my daughters Care Bear blanket From when she was little. Now little one will not put it down. I went on line and found a couple yards of Care Bear fabric so I can make her a blanket too. She may not remember me when she moves back to OR, but I can send her with some stuff that she can hang on to.

It is wonderful to sit, but my house looks like a tornado went through it! How did we ever do this everyday? Oh, and I have probably overate today...that little girl has a bottomless pit for a tummy! Good thing she likes veggies.

Debbie, you and I will both get under 200. We are so close. Let's just focus on a small goal -- to get under 200.

I really need to start counting calories, haven't done that in years. But there is a wonderful website to log your calories, it's called fitday.com

Let's all check it out.

The calorie counting is as individual decision as everyday weigh ins! I am so not ever going to count calories...I really can't stand the thought, but I love weighing everyday! Some of you like counting calories, but would rather not weigh in everyday! We are all so unique. I have a nice NFNS dinner ahead of me and then to bed early. I am worn out.

I really haven't been as strict as some of you with the NFNS ... I would get a B+ for A- for the flour part, but I have slipped in some sugar, but very little considering the amount that used to be in my diet. I guess for me I am taking baby steps. But I have noticed this, my appetite has really diminished. And not only that, my preoccupation with food doesn't seem to be as bad anymore either.

On a side note, what are your thoughts about limiting your intake of red meat? I thought about just having red meat once a week.

Tammy, I also feel that I have not done things perfectly, but very well.
We should just remind ourselves that the cravings will continue to be quiet
the more we stay away from flour and sugar.

And Connie, I'm with you on calorie counting. I've never done it or will do it.
However, I'm really strict about never eating unless I am truly hungry and stopping
before I am full. This works great!

Keep your head up Debbie!

Red meat is ok, Just try to make them the leaner cuts.
TammyGirl
posted 22-Feb-2010 8:53pm

Debbie, yea I do, I opt for the leaner cuts and also try to get organic when I can. But that gets expensive and hubby isn't willing to go the extra bucks.

Connie
posted 22-Feb-2010 9:07pm

I can't remember what the "healthy eating" people are suggesting for red meat. Wasn't it once a week? We eat it twice a week at the most. I always buy the leanest ground beef, but then I always buy rib eyes or something like it and that is more fatty. Although I do try and rim the fat and we always grill it.

I don't know why but it worries me when you all say your doing this plan "mostly." I'm afraid you wont lose and then you'll stop. And I think it is such a healthy plan. NFNS, low fat, reasonable portions. If you are experiencing weight loss and the cravings are down and you feel good about what you are eating, then good for you. Over time you should get where you want to go...but if your not losing and your craving, try and go 100% for awhile.

Night all.

I have only been eating red meat about once a week or even once every 2 weeks. I have been eating mostly salmon, chicken, cheese and eggs for protein.

Good morning all,

Yes Connie you are so right -- I know I need to be 100% NFNS. In fact, I am determined to do it today. I'll take it one day at a time. I'll even report back tonight and let you know how I did. This morning for breakfast I will be having oatmeal, Silk organic soy milk sugar free, banana, and my organic coffee black. For lunch I am bringing a salad, with shredded cheese and a hard boiled egg. Unsure about dressing, I must just do olive oil and vinegar. I have blueberries too.

Even when I was losing I would eat a regular ranch dressing. I can't stand the taste of fat free dressing. They are just gross to me. If I like my dressing then I will have salads more often. I put a little on the side and dip my fork into the dressing before I stab the salad. You still get the flavor but not a lot of calories.

I wish we had a Rubu Tuesday around here.

Morning all. It's my bday so I am not weighing. Just spending the day being a total bum...except ironing a little tiny bit. I'm still in bed drinking coffee. My back is killing me from lifting little one all day yesterday so I am trying to get some stretches in here and there. Son is cooking dinner for me tonight, all NFNS. My daughter bought some sugar free candy for our dessert. Today is the one day a year when I don't have to do anything and I am going to take full advantage!

Debbie, I'm like you when it comes to fat free. I can't stand the taste. I'm not even very fond of bottled ranch. Homemade is so much better. Another trick is to sprinkle a little olive oil and a sprinkle of dry ranch on your salad. Then toss. It is different, but I got used to it and like it fine.

Time to fix my second cup

Happy. happy birthday Connie. Enjoy your day and just relax, you so deserve it so ENJOY! I Believe this is the second birthday you have had NFNS.

Debbie, I agree with you on the dressings and I too like to home make them. When you look at the bottles of fat free dressings they have a ton of chemical sounding ingredients in them, way more than the regular ones (which already have enough junk in them).

I am totally on program.....GO US!

Debbie, yea, I do the same thing with dressing. And I hate FF dressings too. In fact most bottled dressings I don't care for, I really like olive oil and white balsamic vinegar. The white has an ingredient called grape mist. Unsure what that really is, but it must add a little sweetness.

Connie, (((HAPPY BIRTHDAY))) Enjoy your restful day, you have earned it.

Happy Birthday Connie, good you get to relax.

If I am still counting days I'm day 15+ no flour... and day 5 no sugar.
My slips were tiny but they were slips. I may start to lose track of the day count,
which to me is a sign of losing some of the food obsession.

I am way up on fruits and veggies, and almost zero white rice/white potatoes.
My proteins are lean and I have had no processed foods except some sugar free items.

My energy is up and I am typically going over 4 miles on the treadmill.

Congrats to all, thanks for the support.
