Hey all,

I'm so tired I can scarcely put sentences together but I want to wish everyone a good night. I hope you feel better soon, Hilda. And Connie, you will definitely be fully on the path again soon, no doubt. Tammy, I like that quote.

I basically stand in awe of what you ladies carry in life: families, children, in-laws, etc. Pretty amazing, and yet you also make this important commitment to get healthier and feel better.

I personally have felt better since I started taking a bunch of vitamins and getting regular exercise. I started them at the same time so I can't tell which is responsible. I think it's important to take calcium, D, all the B vits, C, and fish oil or omega 3s, in addition to a multi.

night all.

Bronwyn, I can relate to your starting weight being too high. I can't believe I ever let myself get back over 200 -- when I had made it down to 165 a few years ago. When I got to the 190's you would have thought that would have scared me straight. But, NO, I had to get over that darn 200 again. So I can relate to just having to lose 10 pounds to feel like that is your true starting weight. But like my husband says, "it is what it is".

We'll do it. smile

Well, I just finished watching The Bitter Truth video. It is unbelievable. I am so going to read the label of everything even more than I do right now. So, a calorie is not a calorie. Tammy, when I read your statement that you can't believe you let yourself get over 200 pounds, I think you may not have been able to avoid it if you were eating the typical american diet. You too Bronwyn. I am so thankful I never drank pop or much juice. My weight issues could have been so much worse. Scary stuff. Hugely interesting too. I understood it enough to know I'll be able to pester my friends and family on a whole new level! But while I watched it I wished I could retain more of it. Lot's to think about there.

I'm off to bed in a minute. Sweet dreams all.

I am having a hard time shutting my brain off. Doesn't the video seem like another piece of the puzzle? I remember thinking why..why..why..was I always gaining weight even though I tried not too? And why was I still hungry after I ate and why did I feel so crappy when I was consuming more than enough calories? NFNS is the simple view of a very complex process. I again am so thankful I found this way of eating and am able to continue learning from this site. I'm pumped. I'm probably going to be the most annoying person to be around for awhile. I feel like we need to get the word out and try to save our species from being poisoned to death.

Connie in all truth I did not eat the standard American diet.....in the fact that I don't eat any processed foods, I don't drink pop or juice, but, I certainly did over eat and especially chocolate and sugar things. When I would get going on that stuff it was like I just couldn't stop.....couldn't ever feel I had enough.

Tammy I got down to 165 about 4 years ago. I wasn't thin enough but I felt so much better and I could actually buy clothes I kind of liked. I couldn't believe that I put it all back on....so depressing!

The problem with some stretch in your pants. All of my pants have like 2 or 3% spandex in them. It is ridiculous how easy it is to gain 10 to 12 lbs. and be able to wear the pants pretty much the same way. I need to get back down to 165 to get into my clothes that have no spandex in them....spandex is too forgiving.

I remember being 130 pounds when I was 21 and gaining enough weight to make my pants tight. My Boss told me to keep wearing the same clothes and lose the weight to stay in that same size. Obviously I didnt take her advise. I wish I had. Of course she is still beautifully thin to this day.

My daughter is getting ready to go to Washington DC with her class. Just one more month! She is so excited! There has been a brightly designed T-shirt that they are all goin to buy ($15) and wear during their site seeing so they can easily be identified. What a nice souvenir.

K10, The Duggars on TV make their own detergent. The recipe is on the internet. My friend with 6 kids does as well. They like it just fine and it is so cheap to make. I've had good intentions of doing it but havent yet. She gave me some to try and its just fine. No nice smell to your clothes but there is a way to add it with oils or something. A favorite dryer sheet could add a nice scent. But those are expensive too. I usually rip mine in half and use them several times.

Connie, I am currently the most obnoxious person in my household after watching
the fructose lecture... wink

It was really eye opening... and what I take away from it - since I cannot retain all those biochemical reactions - is that my liver has to work overtime if I have too much fructose. That damages the organ and then also the heart, veins, cholesterol level, etc.

And like Bronwyn just said, I also felt (very recently) that I could never get enough when eating sweet things. That really doesn't feel good.

I am going to watch the video today.

I have a fatty liver from being overweight.

If sugar can be turned into fat, I am sure part of the reason for my fatty liver is all the Pepsi I have drank not to mention the fat I have consumed.

Since I have been eating NFNS this week my stomach has been bothering me again. I absolutely hate how this happens. Hopefully by next week I will be feeling better. I have been eating more produce and grains, so I know that is the problem.

I have thrown away the jam that had sugar and high fructose corn syrup in it, the BBQ sauce as well.

Debbie: The recipe on the Duggar site is the same or similar to the one I made. I used a food processor and it was much easier to do. I will have to determine how I like it. I think it will be find. Then I read that the soap that you had is bad for you. We just can't win.

Good for you K10, I bet you can reverse much of that.

I don't know if I can go entirely without sweet items... meaning no sugar added dried fruit or the *occasional* sugar-free ice cream. I just don't know that I can maintain NFNS without these "loopholes." And I want to maintain NFNS long term.

This morning I had maybe 7-8 prunes with my plain yogurt. Sounds weird but it was quite good. Then I read that prunes are mostly glucose, not fructose. smile

At the gym I did 4 miles, 2.9 of which were running non-stop. That's a new record for me.

Good day all.

Bear, I have osteoporosis in my spine and my hips....it really scares me. I don't really have any symptoms particularly yet....like hunchback and so forth but, I am concerned for the future and scared to death of falling and breaking something. Anyways, guess what there is research that shows eating 10 prunes a day is helpful in treating osteoporosis.....not mainstream health advise. I need to start to eat prunes. I find 2 or 3 is all I can handle and with my counting points I hate to eat 10 and add up the points. Actually the literature....Susan Brown authour,,,,says to not even count the calories or to worry about them. I may try it this week and see if it stops my weight loss. So after this long winded story, what i am saying is you just may be doing your body good with the prunes smile I wouldn't stray too far from the washroom with having eaten 7 however smile

Debbie the coconut oil that you get in prepacked goods is still vile stuff.....totally avoid it. If you use coconut oil it has to be organic and cold pressed.....the expensive stuff not the cheap hydrogenated stuff they use in prepacked foods.

K10 how do you know you have a fatty liver,,,,,I would like to know that. Is it reversable? Is shown through blood work?

I just called this number.....maybe I will be in a study!!!!

Aside from this, there are also preliminary data reporting that prunes restored lost bone in animal models of osteoporosis, and improved biomarkers linked to bone formation in postmenopausal women..

They are now preparing a large human trial to confirm this medicinal benefit of eating prunes. Wanna take part in the trial? You get to eat either 9-10 pieces of prunes daily, or a comparable amount of apples. If you are two to 10 years postmenopausal and wish to learn more about participation in Arjmandi’s dried plum study, call (800) 951-4490 for more info.
Bronwyn
posted 5-Mar-2010 1:58pm

Bear you will be sorry you mentioned prunes but here goes more info:

Q. Wouldn’t eating 9-10 prunes a day cause diarrhea and/or gas?

A. As we well know, prunes have a laxative effect. The studies using 9-10 prunes a day, however, found that if people introduce the prunes slowly, taking a few to start and adding more over time, they do not experience excessively loose stools. Also, at the Center for Better Bones we find that soaking or lightly cooking the prunes also helps improve their digestibility, as does eating them warmed a bit, if necessary. Another tip is to spread your prunes out over at least 2 meals. Incidentally, prunes make a tasty dessert or sweet addition to hot cereal.

Q. Will eating all these prunes each day cause me to gain weight?

A. As it appears, consuming prunes did not cause weight gain and, in fact, prune researcher, Dr. Bahram Arjmandi specifically addresses this question, suggesting that prunes are so satisfying that they can actually aid in weight control. Also, recent work at the San Diego State University found snacking on prunes twice a day curbed the appetite while improving blood lipids, which actually aids weight management.

Bronwyn: Quite a few years ago I had a physical and they did the typical bloodwork. Cholesterol etc. My liver enzymes were off and I was told that I had a fatty liver. Recently I had blood work again and an abdominal ultrasound and it was confirmed again. It is reversable. I joked with the doctor the first time, that it was my liver making me fat, not me making my liver fat. She laughed. I am the typical apple shape waiting for a heart attack to happen, as far as body shape goes. Fortunately my cholesterol isn't horrible yet. Losing weight will definitely help me. Fatty liver can lead to scirrosis of the liver.

Floor caves under Weight Watchers weigh-in
No one injured — but dieters might have extra motivation to shed poundsmsnbc.com

updated 2:01 p.m. MT, Fri., Jan. 15, 2010
As a Weight Watchers group gathered for a routine weigh-in, the dieters got an idea of how far they still had to go: The floor underneath them collapsed, a Swedish newspaper reports.

"We suddenly heard a huge thud; we almost thought it was an earthquake and everything flew up in the air," one of about 20 group members said to the Smalandsposten newspaper. "The floor collapsed in one corner of the room and along the walls."

After the initial collapse on Wednesday evening, the floor started to cave in other parts of the room, and the stench of sewage crept into the clinic, which is in Vaxjo, a city in south central Sweden. The group is looking for an alternate location for future meetings, Weight Watchers consultant Therese Levin told the Swedish paper.

NO MORE SLIPPING AND SLIDING! That just does not work at all. You can't slip once a day, or once every other day and expect results. It just doesn't work. And thanks to the video we all now why. So enough with the "that looks good, a little bit won't hurt." There is no such thing as that for me. I gain weight at the drop of a hat when the wrong foods are involved. That is a fact. All the rationalizing in the world will not change it. So, I'm going to act like a responsible accountable adult and do what needs to be done. I feel really good about it too. When I strayed I was plagued with negative feelings. I had to "grow up" to quit smoking and I need to do it again now. No one can do this for me, I have to do it myself. Way to go Hilda..........

Bear....fat was vilified in the 80's and 90's.....good fat is sustaining and healthy.....just make good choices in where your fat comes from. That is one problem with WW is that things that have fat in them really puts the points through the roof.....avocado, nuts and so forth.....I have to eat them sparingly as they are very caloric, but I still work them in because they are so good for us. I don't believe in fat free products, in throwing out the yolks or in eating "Crap" just because it is low fat and thus low points. I am soaking nuts, Dr. OZ recommends that and so do many other health conscious experts. I am then going to dehydrate them....oh my gosh they are so fabulous done that way. I watched the "Bitter Truth" video last night. It was really good and I think I may watch again with my husband and son. It was, however, very scientific. I don't think I would pass a test on all the scientific data that was thrown at me last night. In a way I wish it was spoken more in a lay man's term. But, all in all, it was really an eye opener. But I must say I was never one to drink sodas ... regular or diet. So I can't say that being over 200 pounds was caused by soda. My food of choice has always been the high carbohydrates/sugar items like donuts, pastries, cookies, muffins, etc. Of course all of that gets stored as fat.

I can't believe I have logged everything I have eaten in My Fitness Pal diary for a full week. I never even did that when I was on WW.

I am getting ready to do a Walk Away the Pounds 1-Mile video now.

mentions a study of people who were put on a "zoo diet" - eating 11 pounds
of produce and nuts per day for 10 days - and lost 10 pounds. And inches.
There is no way I could eat that much volume, but it does motivate me to
eat more produce.

The site also mentioned that getting between 1200mg and 1 gram of calcium
can double fat excretion. (sorry, gross). Just make sure to get enough magnesium.

Tammy....benefits of soaking....

The main reason soaking nuts and seeds is so important is because they contain enzyme inhibitors.

The purpose of these enzyme inhibitors is to protect the nut or seed until it has what it needs for growing.

Nature allowed the inhibitors and toxic substances to be easily removed when the conditions (enough rain and sun) were met.

In nature, when it rains the nut gets enough moisture so it can germinate and produce a plant. The plant then continues to grow with the sunlight.

By soaking nuts and seeds, you release these toxic enzyme inhibitors AND increase the life and vitality contained within them!

Almonds
The Benefits of Soaking Nuts and Seeds

* Enzyme inhibitors get neutralized.

* The amount of vitamins your body can absorb increases.

* Gluten breaks down so digestion is much easier.

* Phytic acid, which inhibits the absorption of vital minerals, is reduced.

Soaking times vary with the nut. Generally the more dense the nut, the longer the soaking time. Ideally, soaking should be done at room temperature.

I would consider doing that for 10 days just get things moving again....I feel a stall coming on and I leave in one month to go to my daughter's graduation.

I bought some walnuts and soaked them awhile back. They tasted bitter so I never did it again. Maybe in a salad? Another gorgeous day outside, I went out back with my husband and pulled a large broken branch out of a tree. It hit me on the head and man, oh man, did that hurt! Nothing major, but I have had a small headache ever since. Mostly it just made me mad. I had to work to make it my husbands fault, but I managed to do that so I'm being a bum for the rest of the day and he's being pretty nice. I know I'm acting like a stinker, but that darn branch hurt! We did manage to get the black raspberry plants in so I guess my gardening has begun. Geez, I'm such a newbie, everyone pray for the things I plant. They are going to need it!

My husband asked for some ice cream earlier and I thought maybe I deserved some sugar free chocolate so I made a quick run to the grocery store. I didn't buy any chocolate, I bought some prunes instead. I ate 7 or 8, almost 200 calories. Of course I love prunes and if I'm not careful I can over eat them easily. They were a better decision than the chocolate so I am happy about that. And luckily ice cream is not a problem for me. I bought the Bryer's brand, fewer ingredients.

Connie, you're lucky, ice cream is a problem for me.
Yea, prunes.

Bronwyn, I don't know anything about the zoo diet or the video, sorry.
All I did was google Dr. Oz and vegetables and an article came up.

Being healthy according to Dr. Mehmet Oz is for one to be diet rich with anti-oxidants. At the same time, it is very important to consume and prefer natural healthy foods than supplements. In summary of super foods by Dr. Oz are raw vegetables and fruits. Same types of fresh foods are in the top of his best list.

Dr. Mehment Oz is one of the popular cardio surgeons which is primarily centered on the proper healthy diet that will help one healthy at the same time lose weight. In order for a person to be healthy and to lose weight, below are the 5 best super foods by Dr. Oz which are actually rich in anti-oxidants.

1. Tomatoes
2. Garlic
3. Broccoli
4. Grapes
5. Acai Berry

The fifth on the super foods by Dr. Oz is the Acai berry which is physically described as a dark colored form of berry which in natural form is rich not only with anti-oxidants but also with vitamins and minerals. The Acai berry is double or twice more filled with anti-oxidants than blueberries. The other fruits in the berry family which is also rich in anti-oxidants are as follows:

1. Raspberries
2. Strawberries
3. Blueberries

The said fruits together with Acai berry are also great and fully packed with vitamins E, C, B, and A. Basically, the said super foods by Dr. Oz can fight not only diseases but can also strengthen the immune system.

Grapes must be eaten fresh and the dark colored ones are best preferred. Broccoli is the best choice for vegetables because of its calcium and rich in vitamin C potential. One of the super foods by Dr. Oz is garlic which popular as an additional spice for its fragrant feature is rich in zinc. Garlic can lower the levels of cholesterol and blood pressure. Hope you feel better soon, Connie.

Bronwyn, I'm loving all the produce information. I too have been reading up on antioxidants and getting a little nutty about them... I think I will get all my nutrients and be less fatigued if I increase my intake of these items. Smoothies and soups are a fast and easy way for me to get a ton of nutrients, and, to me, they tend to be more appealing than eating an apple, say, or a pepper.

The thing about eating this way, and by including things like hummus, bean dips, soy cheese, almond milk (unsweetened!), fish and eggs... is that I do not even have room for empty calories.

That said, I had a massive craving for chocolate last night and almost caved. Did not cave, but still craving chocolate today, ugh.

Anybody ever hear of LäraBars?

My brother told me about them...he is a raw foodist. I found them at Trader Joe's. I had the Peanut Butter Cookie one. It was awesome. I highly recommend.

LäraBar is a delicious blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts, and spices — energy in its purest form. The vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, good carbohydrates and healthy fats are derived exclusively from whole, raw food. Each flavor contains no more than 2 to 6 ingredients--so it's pure and simple, just as nature intended.

Tammy I tried a Lara bar two or three years ago. I thought hey I can make that and started to make my own bars and, in all modesty and humility, I like mine better smile I actually haven't made them for a while now, they are very high in natural sugars.

Bear, I too get a little "nutty" and want to go gung hosmile If you want my recipe for a lara bar knock off I can send it to you.....I think it is a good substitute for chocolate. If you aren't a chocoholic you could probably have a square or two of 85% cocoa bar......like a lindt. That would be a reasonable way to deal with that desire for chocolate......as long as chocolate isn't a trigger. Dr. Gott allows chocolate when you are in maintenance and it doesn't sound like you have weight issues.

Connie I was up all night as well.....we should have been chatting. BTW, I didn't see the show but I saw an ad for a Dr. Oz program on night eaters/sleep eaters.

Bronwyn, thanks for the information on soaking nuts.

My brother got a Vita-Mixer refurbished at around a cost of $400 and supposedly it mixes at a very high speed. It’s unbelievable the things he can make. It’s the item to have if you are a raw foodist. He actually makes his own walnut milk. He puts raw walnuts in the mixer and in seconds he has milk.

Something weird happened last night. When I went to bed I had to run to the bathroom vomiting. It lasted until I was empty and all I could think about was Natashia Richardson! I stayed awake for an hour and didn't get confused or disoriented, so I went to sleep. It was kind of scary. I was happy to wake up this morning! I still have a bit of a headache, could be from lack of sleep since I woke up all night long. Tonight my daughter wanted me to go to Gma's house for pie. As if! I am even more committed to NFNS. I told my daughter I want a Vita Mixer for Christmas. I haven't used my mixer more than 3 times.

Tammy, I've had a Larabar before, I think once. I'd like to try more.

Today I've done really well, better than usual. Lots of produce,

Do you have a bump on your head? Does it feel sore? Supposedly what I thought, if you "feel" a bump that is a good thing.

You know what...I think I'm fine. I looked up "head injury" last night and I only had one symptom...and that's a maybe. I had just taken my nightly vitamin and HRT and thought maybe it went down wrong. If I still have a headache tomorrow I'll call someone or something. Today I had no symptoms other than headache.

Tonight for dinner I had a bowl of puffed rice with cut up prunes. I didn't add any sweetener of any kind. It was fine. I think I'm done with all sweeteners, truvia included.

I looked up Dr Oz's "night eater" show. I missed it but there was some info I read. If they ever have it on a rerun and any of you hear about it, please let me know. I would love to watch it. My night eating is pretty much under control, but it is a hard topic to discuss. It seems to be either more prevalent than before and/or people are just now opening up about it. I wonder how much our diet affects a condition like that. Diet seems to affect everything.

Tonight a book and kitties curled up all around me. Sweet dreams all.

Debbie....you info is too brief....how are you????

I grew up in a home with a Vit-A-Mix, wheat grinder and big heavy duty bread mixer (and that was a really long time ago). I as well have had all of those things since I married 30 years ago. I love good cooking appliances. In fact I just had my big green smoothie to catch up on my greens for the day....yummy!

Morning. 149.8 this morning.

It is sad around here though. Last night my daughter went to stay with unmarried pregnant friend. She came down with a "bug" and was vomiting and diarrhea and her mom is out of town. They ended up at the hospital and they did a c section on her. The baby boy didn't make it. The placenta had detached at some point during her vomiting. It is so very sad. He weighed 8 1/2 lbs. Her due date was this week. I just don't know what I can do for this poor girl. My daughter kept me posted with calls during the night and the poor girl is devastated. I think today is going to be bleak...it's raining and the skies are grey.

Thanks for all the kind words. I have been so upset over this...I very easily get "too" depressed when it comes to sad things. I had my daughter go the gift hop and get her some pink roses, her favorite. She is going to be in the hospital for 3 days and then I can do some cooking for the family. The mom is now at the hospital. I need to try and put it out of my mind for awhile.

I'm taking MIL to doc today. It's 48 miles away! Should be interesting. My husband switched car with me this morning so I am without my Garmin. I map quested the route...but I get lost easier than anyone you've ever met! It is going to be a long afternoon. I will check in later.

And Debbie, check in...why are you being so quiet? It worries me.

Connie that is so surprising to hear that the baby didn't make it. He was totally developed at 8.5 lbs. You hear of babies who weren't nourished by the placenta for long periods of time due to complications and they are born small but alive. I can't imagine how hard this is for everyone involved.

Back from Doc's. And I didn't get lost. My daughter was here briefly when I got home. The news from the hospital is just so sad. The details are too tragic to share. I did learn the baby was alive when she got to the hospital. But by the time they did the C section he was gone. I'm not sure what the final conclusion is. I fear that the overwhelmed healthcare system may have played a part. Time will tell. Time will ease the pain.

I just got off the phone with my friend...she made me laugh! How wonderful. I am a much better happy person than a sad person. That only makes sense if you know someone who enjoys drama and misery. We all know someone like that. She is just what I needed and the odd thing is she lost her first child, another full term birth, as well. She offered a lot of insight and I'm so glad she called.

I think I may have overeaten today. It was all NFNS, but the calories are probably way too many. I didn't think I could eat dinner, then I ate two helpings of everything. Stress eating maybe...it's hard to define when your in the moment. It just seemed like one minute I wasn't hungry and the next I was starving.

Tomorrow I will have another NFNS day...that's several in a row for me! I'm back and going strong.

Hi Y'all! I'm sorry I've been so brief and quiet. Things have been going good for me. Even thought I have totally ignored any rules in eating, I have been happy and productive. I have been lowering my meds slowly and systematically. I don't feel sleepy in the day time and I feel motivated. So far this has been the right choice for me. Also my son is doing better in school. We have been running around looking at used campers. It will be nice if the one down the street turns out to be the one for us. The neighbor will be getting his camper out of storage on Sat. He will give us a price then. Its an old camper but well cared for. I hope its cheap enough. as many of you know, we love camping. I really miss the camper we had to sell last year.
So so sad about the baby.
I hope my motivation turnstowards my diet soon. I think spring will be a good time for me to begin losing. I'm still hopeful.

I am more hopeful than ever that my brain tumor was what caused my depression and I will be getting back to normal eventually, meds free. I am going to be cautious though. If I feel a downward spiral I will stop reducing to see if I level off. Reducing too fast isn't good for anyone.

Morning all.

Glad to hear people are feeling better.

The day before yesterday, 2/3 or more of the food I ate was produce/legumes. After dinner, I felt more full than I would like, and I thought I had gained weight. The next day, my clothes fit more loosely. That was just one day.

Then I did it again yesterday. Have yet to get dressed but am looking forward to it.

For me it helps to start the day off with a smoothie with several
servings of fruit, and yogurt for protein. Basing my meal around a soup or
salad - with the permission to put basically anything in them as long as they
are largely produce or legumes - is so easy.

Have a good day all.

Bear I like to add greens to my smoothies to up the veggie intake. There is so much controversy out there about everything ..... should we mix veggies and fruit and so forth but I like to do that.

Debbie good to hear from you.

I am stressed about my weigh in on Friday. I really feel like I am stuck at my present weight loss of only 10 lbs. I know starving won't help either.
