Connie, The qualitly of your life has nothing to do with how many problems you have. It all depends on how you choose to deal with those stresses. YOU my dear are a strong woman caught in the tide. Make your way to the shore and stand tall with you hands on your hips. YOU are strong and you will gain control again. I and many here believe in you! Praying for strength for you in these days of challenges. :o)

Hubby looked at the house. The owners bought it 3 months ago and started to remodel things, update bathrooms, kitchen, made a bedroom into part of the living room, new floors. Then the husband lost his job one month ago. They still have some small things that need to be finished. The back yard is in major need for love. Dirt only right now. The house has 2200 sq ft. Hubby sent me some photos and from what I can tell the majority is done, but it needs the tlc stuff. He came down in price 100 dollars and said we could do what we wanted with the yard. I told hubby to proceed and hopefully by Monday we will know for sure. They know our history and are trying to prevent it from happening to them. They would like us to sign a long lease too. The front needs paint, which would make a big difference.
I am feeling better than last night that is for sure. This house has 3 bedroom (girls will have to share) and very large living areas.

Good night all.

Morning ladies. 151.4 this morning. Not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm a little wigged out because I wore a pair of size 12 slacks the other day and they fit ok except in the thighs. They just pouched out like crazy. The strange part is, they were way bigger than my actual thighs. I'm going to take them in and I think they will lay down better. Despite the fact that I haven't gained too, too much, I know my diet has been pitiful and I can't feel good about that.

Debbie, I know where your words are coming from. Please don't ever worry that you will offend. I believe in saying it like it is because that is true kindness. I hope you all know I only speak from the heart as well.

K10, the house sounds good, I guess. Are you expected to fix the little things? If your up for it, no problem. I am not sure what to think about a long lease. What do you think about that? Isn't a year lease the norm? I hope this is the house you want and it all works out.

I am off to work today. Have a great day ladies.

Connie good to hear from you and woo hoo on keeping the weight down. I have to admit when I am eating unconsciously that my weight seems to sky rocket, so you did well. Stress is such a lousy thing, eh,,,,,I hate it.

I was also curious about what a long lease meant...how long. Mind you in some ways a long lease is in your favour if you aren't going to be in the market for buying anytime soon. It would be nice to not have to move again too soon.

Yay, chocolate superfoods green drink, y'all. I did have the berry one once or twice
but haven't seen it in the store, so, mainly I've been having the chocolate or the
regular. I'm at the point where I like the taste of either in just plain water.

Do you guys feel a difference in your energy?

Bronwyn
posted 25-Jun-2010 8:41pm

Is the plain.....the grass? I drink the grass in water and that is the only way I have tried it. I do add a couple of Tbsps. of lemon juice to the grass. I haven't tried the chocolate with just water.....I don't know but at this point that doesn't sound appealing smile I have however had the chocolate without fruit and enjoyed it.

hmmm....energy, I am not sure yet. I have several big stress things going on at the moment and that is draining. I would say I am sleeping better.

The made 15 dollars today. Not much today. But they have made as much as 50 dollars before.

I'd have to say the three main things I notice with drinking Amazing grass are:
1. My gut is much more normal. I have been taking Iron suppements and Magnesium since I became anemic. Since taking the Greensuperfood I have finally been "normal". Nuff said about that.
2. It makes me feel full for hours and I don't crave anything during that time.
3. Energy, yes I do believe it has increased my energy.

I can't wait to buy a big jar (28.00) Ouch! I'm just not sure which one to buy. I want to go with the best one nutritionally. I'd like to know how you liked the berry flavor compared to the plain and chocolate. They have been out of the berry one so I havent been able to compare. I put the chocolate in an oz of water and stir, then add to milk. The lady at the store said she puts it in hemp milk. But you know employee of health food stores are hard core eveything! Bronwyn, You might try it in your Almond milk.

I was listening to the radio tonight when I picked up my daughters. You know the saying "Under the circumstances"? Well the man on the radio proposed that we stop living UNDER our circumsances and live ABOVE them. I thought it was good food for thought.

Good night all.......(I'm going to weigh tomorrow

That is how Dr. Robert Young suggests drinking his greens......like a tsp. in a litre and at my weight about 7 litres a day..........oh please smile Anyways I mix mine into about 650 ml. (just cause that is the size of my sports bottle).....so just over 1/2 litre. I need to start to fill my bottle at least twice a day and, I know that isn't nearly enough but the 7 litres is totally ridiculous!

I thought this was a 'no flour no sugar ' website. Has everyone given up on this diet? I love reading your posts, and I have for quite a while, but you seem to be going in an entirely different direction now. Are you still doing nfns at the same time you are doing supergrass? Maybe I am confused.
Debbie M.
posted 26-Jun-2010 10:50am

I am doing the nfns. But it is so simple. There isn't really that much to talk about, that hasn't already been said. You avoid anything that has flour and sugar. There are many ways to list sugar as an ingredient. If you'd like I could get out my book and list them here. Flour is just that simple. If the ingredient has the word flour in it, we don't eat it.
Yes, we have gotten off the beaten path, so to speak. We,re adding additional things to add the our health. Greens and essential oils. I think NFNS will be my mainstay for the rest of my life.

Bear doesn't yours have a scoop in your canister.....mine does and I use 1 to 3 scoops a day. So how would that compare to what you use.

Way to go Connie......

2gorgus.....some of us are adding a more alkaline approach to the NFNS.,,,,but the tent poles are NFNS.,,,,,to say nothing of the fact that sugar and most flours are not alkaline anyways.,,,,so it all goes together.

As some of you may know I buy every book known to man-kind about nutrition and dieting and blah, blah, blah,,,,,,and many I have paid very little attention to. Last night looking through my vast array of "health" books I ran into one I had paid NO attention to and that I have had for at least 5 years. I started to read it and was flabbergasted that I had not read any of this before. The book is promoting an alkaline diet and recommends that 80% of your eating plan be alkaline. He even gives menus and recipes.......what do you know, under my nose the whole time. Okay.....reality check.....quit buying books and read the ones I already have. Another one both Bear and Debbie would be interested in is "low fat frauds".....who knew, right in my own book case (which would rival most stores smile

Morning ladies. Bronwyn, I collect exercise videos like you collect books. One of these days I am going to use them. You believe me right?

I googled the Amazing Grass and I am going to get some this week or weekend. I am going to start with the berry and then get some chocolate. I read the nutrition label on the plain...no sugar. Is there any sugar in the berry or chocolate?
Bronwyn
posted 27-Jun-2010 12:05pm

Connie there isn't any sugar in any of mine. I don't have the berry nor have I been able to find it let me know how you like it. I have started to dilute my straight greens drink a little.....one I like it better and that way I also have to drink more water. I like some lemon juice in the greens as well and it makes it a little fresher and less grassy tasting. So that is how I am drinking all the water I drink, mostly anyways, with a little grass in it. Bear drinks even her chocolate in just water now.....I haven't tried it that way yet.

The store where I get my Amazing grass has some packets specifically for children. They also carry bars by the same company. The berry flavored bars were gone. There must be something to this elusive flavor..
Just had another storm pass though. Power went out for only a few seconds. Our spring weather came a little late this year.

Thanks for the info. I was a little thrown off by the simplicity of the NSNF diet. Is that really all there is to it? Just dont eat anything with any of the 'oses' in them (sucrose, dextrose, etc) and nothing with flour on the label? Sounds almost too good to be true! What do you have for breakfast? I think that wil be the hardest meal to keep NFNS. Sorry for asking so many silly questions.

Where do I find the Amazing Grass?
Connie
posted 27-Jun-2010 1:04pm

Yes, it really is that easy, but you have to watch your fat and calorie intake at the same time. This is not like the Atkins diet. You need to get some Ezekiel products fro toast, there's cereals and eggs and oatmeal. It takes time to learn all the things you can and can't eat. But you'll get there.

I might just buy my amazing grass from Amazon.
Connie

Debbie M.
posted 27-Jun-2010 1:59pm

2gorjus,
In the freezer section at some better grocery stores you will find a line of products called Ezekiel Bread. It has no flour. Most people like it best toasted because we keep it frozen for ultimate freshness. I just ake one slice out at a tiime. There are other things like Ezekiel English muffins that are really good too. I like one toasted with a fried egg and small amount of orange juice for breakfast. Greek yogurt with blueberries is a good choice too. Really, anything you like!
It is amazing how simple this diet is. Dr. Gott wrote his book called No Flour No Sugar and its worth reading. There are no need to count calories but modest portions make sence. Its all about keepiing your blood sugar even so you don't have crazy cravings.

Amazing grass can be found on the internet or at your local health food store.

Yes it is great that your children love you anough to apologize to you. Now if they would just clean their room!!! haha
Connie
posted 27-Jun-2010 6:31pm

Juices are a highly concentrated natural sugar. First, make sure the juice you drink has no added sugar. Then limit your juice intake. 4 oz a day would be enough. When I drink juice I water mine down and I don't drink it everyday. A lower fat milk is preferable. Do yourself a big favor and start drinking water. It is the best thing for you and it's convenient.

Bronwyn
posted 28-Jun-2010 3:05pm

Okay Debbie...Omentum was new to me all except for the fact I have an enormous one.....

A large and unhealthy omentum can be three to four times or even more, the size of the healthy organ. Fat cells extend the organ to make it appear like a weighty, globular mass. Even a person who is not significantly overweight can have a significantly large omentum as Dr. Oz demonstrated on Oprah’s show. A memorable screen shot is that of Oprah holding up the healthy omentum while Dr. Oz holds up an omentum from a deceased man who was only about 30 pounds (13.61 kg) overweight. The contrast is striking.

Dr. Oz further gives measurements for what a healthy omentum size should be. The easiest way to measure is to measure from completely around the body, crossing over the belly button in the front. For women, this measurement should not exceed 32 inches (.82 m). A healthy measurement for men is 35 inches (.89 m). If the omentum measures larger than these figures, weight loss can help reduce risk of disease and promote overall better health and longevity.

He loses all reason and I can't stand it. I filled his prescription today and I apologized to the neighbors. When he gets home I will try and talk to him...again. I saw the house today. It needs some minor things done to it. We are going to give the owner a list and he will do what he can on it. Most of the stuff is the kinds of things that you end up with after painting and putting up chair rail. The corners of railing, the trim around the doors, those sorts of things. They are going to be finishing the master bedroom which will be my bro-in-laws. It has an attached bathroom and I think that will be nicer for him. We will have some freedoms to do things that we want to within reason. That is nice. I thought it only had 2 bathroom, but there is a half bath off of the kitchen and laundry room area. Wednesday looks to be deposit and lease signing day. I am getting excited.

Our hot water heaters pilot keeps going out and it isn't even outside. I wonder what is wrong? The gas company is coming tomorrow. Hopefully it is nothing hard to fix.

Hugs to Connie. I remember a number of years ago having a run in with a female neighbor. We lived in the city in a beautiful neighborhood. We were basically the paupers in the neighborhood and I am not kidding. We lived in a small house backing on to the river....beautiful. Our house was wedged between very lovely exclusive homes. Anyways one day the neighbor woman came over and totally ripped a strip off me......honestly I had no idea what she was even talking about. I was confused. Later her husband came over (I thought they had it all.....money (lots of money), an incredible home (actually 5 all around the world), lots of traveling and so forth,,,,,,,,,he really surprised me because he had come over to apologize for his wife. He said her friends had taken her out for lunch and she started drinking at lunch and had not quit yet and that he had no idea when she would. He was so embarrassed and uncomfortable. He said that he constantly tried to keep her from drinking but that he could not be with her and manage her life all the time. He said she is a person you don't want to be around when she is drinking. I felt so bad for him. Connie I am sure your neighbor was very empathetic to you as well nonetheless what a difficult situation for you. I hope there is some way to resolve this and find peace.

Morning all. Thanks for the support. This is an ongoing struggle and I can't see an end to it. It is such a complicated situation. As soon as I recognized and began trying to get rid of the alcohol (at least 15 years ago), our marriage dynamic shifted completely. It has been that way for years and I have gone through all the phases of grief(?) and what ever else one goes through. We did try and patch things up with the neighbor. He is young and strange, I hate to say that but it's true! A couple of months ago the doctor doubled my husbands Wellbutrin in hopes that would help with his drinking. So it's pretty important that he not skip any doses.

In other news, it is hotter than heck here. Everyday we have a heat advisory and heat indexes around 115. It hasn't rained in forever so it's pretty miserable. Saturday I went and did all my grocery shopping, remember? Go me! Anyway, Sunday my daughter had her new boyfriend over for dinner. I picked up and extra ribeye on Saturday, but couldn't find it on Sunday. I looked, daughter looked, son looked, both refrigerators top to bottom. I thought I must have left it at the self check out in the grocery store, I have done that before. But I found it yesterday when I got in my car to run to the pharmacy. Wow! The smell almost knocked me down. There was chicken in the bag too. Good gravy! My car stinks beyond words. I quickly romoved offending bag and have been airing it out since. I put bowls on white vinegar in it last night, but there is still a lingering odor this morning. Maybe it's just going to take time. If any of you have an idea to cure it, let me know.

I'm not weighing for a couple of days...need I say more? Lot's to do today and more I want to share and get your thoughts on. Daughters boyfriend is not ok with me. I'm hoping this is just a summer fling. My night eating is continuous...and MIL is driving me nuts! This week is going to be tough, but next week looks good. Great day to all of you, I'll check in later. And Hilda, I'm trying some new recipes this week, I'll post them if they are any good.

I like bean salads, hummus, veggies, make chips out of Ezekial wraps for dipping in hummus or corn chips, watermelon, or burgers with Ezekial hamburger buns and top with guacomole. Adding a roasted red pepper to any of your usual hummus recipes makes it even more yummy and adds a vegetable right in the dip. For dessert make Nikki's healthy cookies using the Artisana coconut butter for your oil.

note on cookies....if you no longer have the recipe literally google the name of the cookie and it pops up....remember we were using the sunspire no sugar chocolate chips (they are sweetened with agave or something like that).

Connie: Try bowls of vanilla extract spread throughout the car. My husband used to use vanilla if he had a party while his parents were gone. wink You may need to roll up the windows some to have it work, but maybe not. I am sorry about the lost food, that is a bummer. I am not looking forward to the dating thing. I am also sorry about the stress you are under. I will pray for you.

Bronwyn: I wish I could buy a juicer. I feel like I don't want to buy one that isn't great after realizing how much I have spent on crappy knives over the years. I am going to start buying Cutco knives whenever I can. I saw a presentation of them a couple of weeks ago. Do any of you have them? Our landlords-to-be are from Canada, I will have to ask them where exactly.

I am going to try to eat as healthily as I can with packing and moving, but I am not going to stress over it. I already know that I will be eating out more, but when we move we all will be getting on the wagon. We will have the perfect neighborhood to walk and drive in, we will live right by a park that is lovely and we will not have any excuses. The people who own the house have planted green beans and a tomato plant or two. I hope they survive after I move there. smile I would love to eat from them.

Good day all.

I checked out the car this morning...now it smells like saurkraut! The vinegar did help, I prefer the saurkraut to dead meat. I went to WM and found some things in the automotive section for seriously stinky cars. really, I'm thinking by tomorrow it should be much better. I don't need to spend any real time in it until Fri, so I'll just keep working on it.

K10, avoiding stress during your move is exactly where your focus should be. Sounds like your going to be in a better place to make diet and exercise possible.

Connie I haven't used Fabreeze but from the commericals (ha, ha) it sounds like it should take care of your odor problems, not only take care of them but have you all hanging out in the car just because it smells so good. I have both left things I have paid for at the store and also let them in the car......I really think it is a sign of too much going and stress.

K10 your new neighborhood sounds so lovely!

Debbie are these recent test results?

Yes, just got the results today. I called the doc office to compare to the last cholesterol test I had done but they havent called back yet. With all the good oils I've been eating either my numbers have already come down or there hasn't been enough time gone by yet to see a difference.

We are getting a nice relief from the hot weather Connie. Nice ccol air from Canada as our weahter man put it.(thanks Bronwyn) Maybe you will get it too although you may be a little too south for it to reach you.

Funny thing. I came home to find our street gone....literaly!! I had to drive on dirt to get to my driveway. I was only gone 1 hour. I hope they give us a new one!

The rotten meat odors are in a league all their own! Fabreeze didn't do much. It did seem to be less hot here today...but just a little. I made a roast for dinner, one of my new recipes. It calls for a 2 lb sirloin tip, which is a cheaper cut. My roast was 3 lbs. It came out really good. Here's the recipe.

Herbed Sirloin Tip Roast

2 lb sirloin tip roast
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp celery salt
1/2 tsp dried rosemary, crushed
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp dill weed
1/8 tsp rubbed sage

Combine seasonings, rub over entire roast. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours. Place roast on a rack in a large shallow roasting pan. Bake uncovered at 425 for 40-60 min. Meat thermometer should read 145 for med rare. Let stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.

I forgot to give myself time to refrigerate the roast before cooking. It still came out really good. I think better tasting than the onion soup flavor seasoning.

I haven't figured out what to do for the 4th.

Oh I wish I could Debbie! Believe it or not, husband actually drank again last night. I feel completely lost. I have to change my life. I have no skills or education to speak of. Nothing that would provide me with benefits. So, I am school bound. I can get a medical asst degree in 14 months. 4 hours a day, 4 days a week. Very doable. But I have to change my personality. I have to start saying no to people and realize it's up to me to do this. I have always been the worker bee, behind the front person. Now I have to be the front person and it is scary. Fear is my downfall. I need you all to say prayers of strength for me.

Connie you are the only one that knows if it is time to move on and become independent. If it is the right time I totally agree with Bear....you can do it. Does your husband realize that you are at the point of making a big decision about your future? I think places of employment will often be very tolerant and supportive of their employees going in to treatment. Has your husband admitted that there is a problem and would he be willing to consider treatment? If he wasn't drinking is he some one you would want to stay with? There are so many things to consider. I know you are so sweet and helpful to so many people.....you work hard on relationships and I know it is difficult of thinking about ending one. Connie my thoughts are definitely with you and I hope you will be able to find answers to the questions you have. I know you have the strength to do whatever needs to be done.

Strawberries and Raw Chocolate Mousse

Yields 4 desserts

For the Mousse
3 organic bananas (not too ripe but not green)
5 tbsp raw chocolate powder- cacao powder
1/2 large or 1 whole small avocado
tbsp coconut water (for consistency if required, may substitute filtered water)
1/4 tsp alcohol free vanilla
2-5 drops liquid stevia( or powdered- depends on how ripe bananas are but don’t over do-
Method
Place all ingredients in a good blender and blend on low and gradually build speed to mix into a nice creamy pudding consistency. Scrape down sides of blender to incorporate all ingredients. Add coconut water if needed so as to incorporate all. Slightly riper bananas are easily combined vs under ripe that will require additional liquid and may produce a stiffer mixture. Be aware that a powerful blender will warm this mixture if you have to blend it a lot to combine thus it may require refrigerating for your preference.

For the Cashew Cream
1 cup raw cashews
1/2 cup + 2 tbsp filtered (alkaline) water (add the +2 tbsp only if needed)
5 drops liquid stevia (or to taste but don’t over do this)
Method
Place all ingredients in powerful blender or food process and blend until fine and creamy scraping down sides to combine well. This mixture may be spooned on the berries or drizzled from a squeeze bottle.

For the Berries
1 pint of fresh strawberries, washed and sliced
5 stevia leaves minced
liquid stevia drops (only if berries require a wee bit of sweetening)
Method
Combine above ingredients and let stand for 10 minutes.

Presentation
Divide pudding into 4 dishes, top with berries and a dollop of cashew cream. Enjoy!

Bronwyn, that sounds really good!

In other news, I've been out of the house so much lately that I've had to make do with
some off-plan items. I've done my best, only ordering protein and veggies, but sometimes
they've arrived with some horrible sweet sauce, etc. You get the idea.

Anyway, I've felt extra bloated and yucky. Yesterday I was fully on plan. No sweet
anything, no weird sauces, making my own food or knowing exactly what was in it. Feeling a little
better. I hope to get fully back on track this weekend. It's amazing how fast I seem to have
put on water weight, I guess due to inflammation and acidic foods.

Good day all.

I just found out I'm going to a wedding in 4 months where I will see many people from my past. This puts toms of anziety on me. Solely for one reason. I don't want them to see me fat. Isn't that sad? Oct 30 is the wedding. There must something can be done in 4 months? RIGHT? I would love to go to this event eeling great about myself. Instead of dreading how I look and hate the fit of what I'm wearing.

By the way Bronwyn, they delivered our street yesterday. smile

I need to make dinner tonight for my BIL and SIL and their 6 year old. They will be coming at 5 and only for a few hours. They live in Virginia and we havent seen them in over a year. I also have to shop and clean the house. Busy busy busy..........
BTW your dessert sounds wonderful.

My mind is brewing a plan. Bronwyn, that dessert sounds wonderful! Debbie, you can do so much in 4 months! I changed my body totally in 4 months. Bear, once you eat good for awhile, junk food affects you immediately. Gotta run, I'll be back later. Love you guys.

Bear did you continue to drink your greens even though you couldn't eat exactly like you wanted? I wondered if that helps and if you had tried to keep that up?

Received my program from better bones. There were some ph test strips in it that I have now tried twice. I think they are really cool strips and it is interesting to check your bodies acidity and reaction to different foods. I had tried ph strips from the drug store before and they did not really work.....these are amazing. Bear if you wanted to order some to try you could order just the strips.....from better bones (Susan Brown) or women to women.

Yes, I've been keeping up with the green drinks twice a day.

I think it couldn't compete with a bunch of very salty, sometimes sweet,
plus some processed flour yuckiness. Gross.

Today is yet another day of eating well, though, which is good. Hormonal issues
fast approaching. I'm taking new things for them to see if they help. One is called
DIM or indole-3-carbinol, which is the compound found in cruciferous vegetables.
One is evening primrose oil. We'll see if they help my pms...

2gorjus, That is fantastic!! 2 pounds in a week is PERFECT! What ever you are doing, keep up the good work! smile

If I lost 2 pounds for the next 16 weeks, that would be 32 pounds. That would make me so pleased. The time is going to pass anyway fo might as well do the work.

Eat at home before you go. Fill up on protein. Then you will be prepared to resist.
