NutriSystem

Summary

NutriSystem is weight loss system in which you buy specially-formulated meals from the NutriSystem company.

Description

The NutriSystem Nourish meal plan features low Glycemic Index foods and optimal amounts of protein to help keep your blood sugar levels stable and your metabolism burning strong, so you burn more fat. You eat five times a day and always get optimum health and nutrition (not to mention perfect portions) with every meal.

Criticism

Purchasing most of your meals from NutriSystem gets expensive. The constraints on what you can eat can be hard to stick with in the long run.

I tried nutri-system. I guess you would lose weight because the meals are so small and they all taste like cardboard that you'd rather just not eat. Horrible food and very expensive. Besides, its nothing but chemicals and preservatives. I went on to start eating organic food, even organic sweets, and lost 15 lbs. I personally think all the perservatives and additives in most diet foods are what contributes to fat gain.

I've tried lots of different diets, and this is the only one that ever really worked for me. I lost 50 lbs on this diet, and so did my husband. We both took about 9 months to lose the weight. When we went back to eating regular food, he kept his weight off, because he had changed his portions and eating habits with Nutrisystem, and it stuck with him on real food. I, on the other hand, went back to work for a very stressful boss, and the stress of life drove me back into old habits, which drove the weight back on for me. Not all of it... I gained about 35 pounds back. I'm considering going back on Nutrisystem again to get the weight back off again. If you follow the program, it's really a "no-brainer". I was a little hungry the first couple of weeks, but then my body adjusted to the smaller portions, and I was not hungry at all on the program after that. My husband and I both thought the food tasted fine. It's not Gordon Ramsey quality... but it's not bad. About the same as opening a can of beef stew, except that you know you're always eating exactly the right thing. Also, it's not really that expensive if you consider that you're buying less at the grocery store. You do have to buy some things in addition to the food they give you -- lettuce, veggies, fruit, and some extra dairy/protein servings. I like that because you still have to eat "real food", and it makes the transition off the diet easier. One thing I really like about this program, is that it is meant to be temporary, and they are very helpful to people who are ready to transition off. Overall, the customer service folks are amazing. They spent all the time I needed with me, and had some helpful things to say. Overall, I give this diet two thumbs up.

Whatever works is good thing and I doubt following this is going to harm anyone but they relaly need to do something with the taste of the food. Some of it I really like but the meat and the food you microwave had a taste to it. It is not as good as frozen.

I tried Nutrisystem for three weeks. I had to give it up because the food was sooooo terrible I didn't want to eat it. Perhaps that's the way Nutrisystem works, you're so grossed out you don't eat.
It's sad, I didn't Nutrisystem 23 years ago and the food wasn't as bad then as it is now!

I think if more people started preparing and cooking their own meals (from as close to scratch as possible), not only would they get more nutritious food, but they'd get a little exercise too. Plus, aside from the occasional nibbles you take when you're preparing your food, that's more time spent not snacking. And once you know what you're doing, the food is much better than any of those frozen/pre-made meals. Also, this is just speculation, but you may find you form a new, better relationship with your food. Instead of stuffing your face from stress and worry so much (and of course I do that myself), you'll eat to enjoy the food itself. Just a thought.

Its been almost 3 weeks and I have already lost about 8 pounds. The food is a bit odd tasting for sure, but luckily I can tolerate bland tastes. My issue is less about taste and more about feeling full but I am getting used to less food. The diet has ben been a huge wake up call for me. I realize that my portions have been way out of control for years and my age is catching up to the calorie in take. After 2 weeks, "I get it" but I decided to buy another month's worth of food anyway, just to see where this effort takes me. I also got to choose my own food this time. Warning: The food can make you gassy and I get the sense that I am eating more salt than I normally do. I also worry about chemicals. I have always been a healthy eater and I am shocked at the number of deserts they make you order. Again...my issue is portion control. For example I usually eat 4 or 5 servings of cereal in one sitting and never really thought about calorie counting. The same goes for Pasta for dinner. Normally I could eat 3 nurtisystem dinners quite easily. Now I know better and I amloosing weight. My chronic heartburn has has gone awway and I am no longer taking Prilosec every day!

As long as you follow the Nutrisystem way, you will lose the weight. Add some exersize and you can't go wrong. The food is a little strange tasting at times but over all, once you customize what "You" like, its easy. I lost 20 pounds in a little less than 2 months. I'm happy with that and I'm now starting my transition to regular food. For the transistion, GO SLOW. Don't just stop NS and start cooking your own meals. You need to do the reasearch and make sure that portion control and the carbs and fats are followed as close to NS as posible. Good Luck!!
