The Paleo diet is not a new idea, but in this book, Robb Wolf gives it a fresh look. His writing style is very approachable and down-to-earth. His explanations of the underlying science and body chemistry are done in a casual, appealing style that win you over.

The basics of the paleo diet are that you should avoid processed food, dairy, legumes, grains, salt, sugar, and processed oils. Instead, focus on meat/fish plus veggies, fruit, roots and nuts. Any easy way to think about it is it's the same stuff early human hunter (meats) & gather (veggies, fruit, nuts) would eat.

The diet can be hard to do (like many diets), but you just can't eat a lot of the regular food people eat. But, Rolf suggests that you just try it for 30 days and see. He's convinced you'll see such a difference that you'll happily give up all the old "regular foods" that have been making you fat and unhealthy for years.

The Paleo Solution contains many practical and tasty recipes to help you find ways to make foods despite the restrictions. He even has a recipe for pizza that uses a nut-based flour for the crust.

This diet is not just a way to lose weight but there are many potential health benefits from it as well.

Criticism


The paleo diet is a matter of some debate among nutritionists and even scientists who study early man. Essentially, the assertion that cavemen were healthier than modern humans is very hard to prove one way or another.

You also may have noticed that the paleo diet ends up being quite similar to the Atkins or South Beach "low carb" diets.
