Shangri-La Diet




Summary


Drinking sugar water or a little olive oil between meals will reduce your appetite and reduce your body's set-point weight.


 

Description


In between meals drink one to three tablespoons of sugar in water or one or two tablespoons of extra-light olive oil. Avoid processed foods and high-glycemic index foods (refined grains like pasta, white rice and white bread).

You can eat all you want and you will not be hungry.


History


The author of the book, Seth Roberts, Ph.D, a psychologist and professor, did research to find out why diets always fail. This ultimately lead him to try various techniques to control his appetite. This is when he discovered that simple sugar water or olive oil was all that was needed to suppress appetite and lose weight. He lost 35 pounds in 3 months.


Criticism


The book is vague on many points. Little or no scientific evidence is given. Mostly, testimonials and anecdotes are used.

My name is Shari and I've tried every diet known to man. I have been struggling with my weight since high school, I'd lose weight and gain it back again. The bottom line for me is that I hate vegetables. Now you try any diet that doesn't ask for you to eat salads and vegetables. There are no diets out there like that. Anyways i've had success this last year with The Jeruesalem Diet losing 30 pounds and keeping it off. The only thing is I've hit a plateau. My set point is obviously stuck at 140 lbs. So I hear about The Shagri-la Diet and I think that oil wouldn't be that bad. Well it's been 2 weeks with the oil and the sugar water and i'm down 5 pounds. Amazing. I'm still eating takeout but I'm just not that hungry anymore. 1 piece of pizza is good for me. If you try this diet, take 1 tbsp of oil and mix it in water and down it between meals. Nothing with flavor for a hour before and after (you can have water). I also do one tbsp of sugar water between breakfast and lunch also but make sure you sip on it for about a half an hour so your insulin levels don't rise too much. It's so easy you won't believe the results. Try it everyday for a week, you won't regret it.
