Ultra Metabolism

Summary

A system that uses "nutrigenomics" (the science of how food talks to your genes) to increase your metabolism and lose weight.

Description

Increase your metabolism by influencing the communication between your brain, stomach, and fat cells. Reduce stress and inflammation, while improving the function of your thyroid gland.

By eating whole grains, fish, grass-fed or organic beef and poultry, nuts, soy, beans, fruits, and vegetables and avoiding sugar, artificial sweeteners, oils, bad-fats, refined grains, dairy, and processed foods; you can alter your body's metabolism. The change will cause you to lose weight and allow you to maintain a healthy weight.

You are encouraged to eat foods high in Omega-3 (e.g. fish, and grass-fed or organic beef and poultry). Also, to avoid sweeteners because of the affect they have on your metabolism. High glycemic-index foods like refined grains also screw up your metabolism, so you avoid these.

You also boost your thyroid production by avoiding glutens (found in wheat, barley, rye, oats, etc.) It's also found in McDonald's French fries!

One you make these changes to your diet, you will also have more energy and more resistant to getting sick.

History

Ultra Metabolism is written by Dr. Mark Hyman, an alternative medicine specialist. He's also co-authored the best-selling book, "Ultra Prevention". He hosted a public television special called "Ultra Metabolism."

Criticism

Many of the scientific theories behind this diet are unproven. You are encouraged to take a lot of supplements, which can be a hassle. Also, the science behind the supplements is sketchy.
